D&D - June 30, 2009

It seems like the 6am Hour usually has more of the funny, less serious topics and call-in segments. And those segments usually don't seem to get podcasted at WCSX.com for some reason. The three topics that opened the show today were a rundown of the Top 15 most dangerous sports in America, Deminski's opinion that pit bulls are nothing more than penis extenders, and replays of a few 9-1-1 calls (nice segue from Billy Mays to fast food and old people, BTW). Ripped from the womb of WCSX.com, here are some other topics (from later in the show):

1. RICK NIELSEN (podcast) - Rick Neilsen of Cheap Trick called in to talk to D&D about the new album (And 8 track!?), and their tour with Def Leppard.
2. HITTING SOMEONE ELSES KID!? (podcast) - Interesting story - a toddler has a temper tantrum in a store, happens to the best of us right? What if a store employee takes it upon herself to discipline said toddler, and even goes as far as to SMACK the child?
3. HOW MUCH MONEY IS WORTH JAIL TIME? (podcast) - How much money is worth going to prison for? That's what D&D are asking. If you could steal A LOT of money (without it hurting anyone else [unlike Bernie Madoff, who insipred this discussion]) and only spend a few years behind bars - would you?
4. JOEY KRAMER (podcast) - The drummer of Aerosmith, Joey Kramer, called in to talk about his new book - "Hit Hard - the story of hitting rock bottom at the top."
5. GOOD BYE MONICA! (podcast) - D&D thought it would be only fitting to allow their listeners to say a special goodbye to Monica Conyers. What ever will we do without our favorite, obnoxious city council woman? Hey Monica - don't let the door hit you on your way out!

D&D - June 29, 2009

We've been having a lot of P.S.'s on here lately. Lotta breaking news happening just after 9am. Farah, MJ, Monica. Now Bernie Madoff -- 150 years! D&D spent a lot of time playing catch-up on the three-day old Monica Conyers news (see below) as well jumping on the Michael Jackson bandwagon by covering the 911 call and adding local spin to the story by getting quotes from folks at the Detroit vigil. Props to Deminski for being one of the only people who isn't afraid to cover up the crap that MJ did now that he's dead. Infamous infomercial icon Billy Mays also dropped dead over the weekend as did comedian / impersonator Fred Travalena. D&D spoke with a giddy Deathpool Dave -- 102 points in three days! To continue the macabre topics, D&D picked up the story in the Free Press about AshleyMadison, the dating site for married folks -- no commercials on WCSX yet, so far as I've heard. Other topics covered were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. MICHAEL JACKSON VIGIL (podcast) - We interviewed some people outside of Hitsville USA in Detroit...Asked for their reaction to the death of Michael Jackson...We questioned why so many people loved this weirdo...Then Beat It! Too Soon?
2. BYE BYE MONICA (podcast) - Monica Conyers guilty! Channel 4’s Kevin Dietz was in the courtroom when this all went down! Judgement Day Is Upon Thee Monica!
3. SAM RIDDLE (podcast) - With Monica Conyers on her way to the slammer...Her former aid[e] Sam Riddle is now further under the microscope! D&D had a exclusive sit down with Sam this morning in studio!
4. BILLY MAYS 1958-2009 (podcast) - Billy Mays, our favorite pitchman passed away this weekend...We are all deeply saddened...Kaboom!
5. TOM JOHNSTON - DOOBIE BROTHERS FOUNDING MEMBER (Wikipedia) - D&D followed their new formula of a classic rock interview followed by a song -- the first of two songs played during the 8am hour following "Another One Bites the Dust" from 7:05. I thought WCSX cut out the 9am hour because there wasn't enough music being played?

D&D - June 26, 2009

I bet WCSX never thought they'd play Weird Al and Michael Jackson songs in the same week. I feel bad for Rudy -- not only is his band breaking up, but he was so wrecked by the news of MJ's death that he was unable to enjoy the "groundbreaking" D&D Bonus Point movie Year One. As mentioned below, WCSX's Uncle Buck, NBC's Lee Cowan, and Gary Graff from the Oakland Press called in to give their views on The Day The Music Died Pt. 2 (/sarcasm). WDIV's Rod Meloni also called in, somehow turning the excitement over the Lake Orion GM plant into "...this just means it won't get worse." Other (mostly minor) topics mentioned were the Frito Lay Hooker, the Air France / LOST hoax (one of the two big Internet hoaxes from yesterday, with Jeff Goldblum's death being the other), the gay demon exorcism from Connecticut, and Deminski's implosion fetish. There were a few more segments as well -- from WCSX.com:

1. BEFORE THEY WERE MUSIC STARS (link) - It feels good to realize that before they were rock or pop stars, these people were just like us (or worse). Without money, fame, and an image consultant, what are the chances that they’d have an aspirational look? Below is a trip down memory lane that features school yearbook photos from some of music's biggest stars. Check out the photos!
2. ALTO REED IN STUDIO (podcast) - Alto Reed stopped by to talk to D&D and even played a little sax - in studio! Alto will be performing tonight at Campus Martius. (Mediafire download here)
3. MICHAEL JACKSON 1958-2009 (podcast) - D&D discuss the reactions to the death of the King of Pop. The guys also talk to Lee Cowan of NBC News. Lee called in from outside the coroners office where Michael's remains will undergo an autopsy and toxicology screening.(Mediafire download here)
4. TEXTING WHILE DRIVING? (podcast) - Research says that texting while driving is MORE dangerous than drinking and driving. Do you buy this?(Mediafire download here)
5. UNCLE BUCK A MICHAEL JACKSON FAN? (podcast) - Uncle Buck sits in on D&D as we react to the death of Michael Jackson. Turns out - Buck was quite the MJ fan, and even attended a Michael Jackson concert! Who knew?(Mediafire download here)

D&D - June 25, 2009

Sad to see MindCandy, once projected to be the "greatest band in history," go the way of the dodo. I only saw them live once, at the WCSX NYE bash last year welcoming D&D back on the air. I might try to get out to the Stars and Stripes Festival in Mt. Clemens Rudy mentioned briefly this morning to see their "goodbye" gig (btw, Rudy, that was a HORRIBLE bit of manwhoring there, you can do better than that). Full show this morning with topics ranging from spousal spending limits to a dating website with a DNA database to banned celebrity wishlist and everything in between. Chris Chelios called in to discuss his future, tickets for the Pistons' draft party were given away, some funny entries from textsfromlastnight.com were read, Monica Conyers's relatives' "city assistance programs" were brought up, and Rudy's gay little trip to the Pottery Barn was ridiculed. Other topics were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. THE 13 MOST UNINTENTIONALLY DISTURBING CHILDREN'S TOYS (link) - As clowns have taught us, there is a very fine line between mirthful and downright creepy. But when you look at some children's toys from the last few decades, you can't help but wonder how in the hell they designed these things without realizing how deeply, deeply unsettling they are. Check out the toys!
2. CARL PALMER AND GEOFF DOWNS (podcast) - Carl Palmer and Geoff Downs called in to talk to D&D about Asia hitting the road on tour. Asia, along with the band Yes, come to Detroit July 20th!
3. GOVERNOR SANFORD SCANDAL (podcast) - Talk show hosts everywhere are having a field day with the story of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford cheating on his wife. Why should we be any different?
4. BAND NAMES (podcast) - D&D's very own Rudy is actually a musician that has been in a local Detroit band for quite some time now. Rudy is forming a NEW band, and wanted the listeners to help him come up with a band name.
5. GOODBYE TO CHRIS CHELIOS (podcast) - After 10 years of being a Detroit Red Wing, Chris Chelios is saying goodbye...We got Cheli on the line and let listeners call in to send him off with their well wishes.

D&D - June 24, 2009

Anybody reading this going to the Year One showing in Woodhaven with D&D tomorrow? Sounds like they were pretty desperate this morning to get rid of the rest of the tickets -- the Jack Black trivia game was pretty amusing. Anyone wanna try to sneak a tape recorder in there and record any narration / introductions done by D&D? Hmm...maybe I'll just try to plant a couple bugs in their watches and record them 24 hours per day. It could be like the Truman Show, only creepier. Anyway...funny show today. Topics not mentioned below included a discussion about whether pets are true family members, a "Letter to D&D" from a golf snob, a drunk Ed McMahon clip (and a review of other famous sidekicks), another round of Play the Numbers, and Rudy's hatred for the Winged Wheel. Segments featured on WCSX.com include:

1. WORST TATTOOS (link) - An Alf tattoo might have sounded like a good idea in 1986...actually, no, an Alf tattoo is never a good idea. Dude! WTF were you thinking? Check them out!
2. FOOD OR SEX? (podcast) - There was this absurd survey that men would chose food over sex...That food is more satisfying! Suuuure...was this survey given at 2am in a White Castle drive-thru? FAIL!
3. 911 CALLS (podcast) - Here are some actual 911 calls that we found hilarious! Yes these are real, and yes people are that stupid!
4. CHELSEY JEHAVHIRIAN (podcast) - Chelsey gave birth to a son on a webcam while her husband got to watch while serving in Iraq! How cool is that?
5. WCSX'S ROCK AND ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVE (link) - This 4th of July weekend, 94.7 WCSX wants you to join us and help save lives [and get free stuff!] when you donate blood during the Rock & Roll Up Your Sleeve [blood] drive.

D&D - June 23, 2009

Who really, honestly cares what the hell happens to the Gosselins anyway? I hope Pennsylvania finds them guilty of child labor violations and the show turns from Jon and Kate Plus Eight to Jon and Kate Serve Five to Eight. Or maybe Jon comes out during the next episode and it becomes Jon and Nate Plus Eight. Jim O'Brien could audition for the part of Nate.

Non-man card-forfeiting segments from today included Jeff's near self-deballification, an interview with Bill Riney, the Ysilanti guy who is living in a tree to protest DTE, a review of the new Transformers movie by Rudy (EPIC FAIL) with corrections by Fox 2's Lee Thomas, an warning about MRSA-carrying pets, the latest celebrity gossip featuring Perez Hilton and Megan Fox, a proposed "prayer booth" in Warren's City Hall building, a debate about ads on professional sports uniforms, and a Tigers update from Rod Allen. Other topics mentioned were, from WCSX.com:

1. AMAZING SHOT! (video) - Aaron Shutway, an 8th grader at Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School nails a front handspring to a 3/4 nothing but net shot to send the P.E. class in a frenzy!
2. MAKE IT IN MICHIGAN! (link) - On June 1st, GM announced that it would build its newest car in the United States instead of in China. Three plants are candidates to build this car: Tennessee, Wisconsin and Lake Orion...we feel that it makes sense to build it here - click here to check out the Make It In Michigan website [courtesy of Congressman Gary Peters] and lend your support!
3. IS IT STEALING?? (podcast) - Jeff Deminski needs help with a moral dilemma. It involves shoes, and not wanting to admit that he was wrong and his wife was right. What could possibly go wrong?
4. JACK BLACK TRIVIA (podcast) - Rudy tests listeners Jack Black knowledge for the chance to win free movie tickets. Winners will join D&D this Thursday evening to see the new Jack Black movie, Year One. Listen for more chances to win your free movie passes!
5. MAN IN A TREE (podcast) - An Ypsilanti man is trying to prevent a tree on his property from being cut down by the electrical company. How’s he gonna do that? By climbing that tree- and not coming down. D&D talk to the Man in the Tree live.
6. D-List Week of 6-22 (video) - Weekly D&D update video.

D&D - June 22, 2009

July 4 really does creep up on us, doesn't it? Especially with the city of Detroit jumping the gun with their early fireworks every year. Looking forward to the three day weekend coming up. Not sure if D&D will have a show on the 3rd. There was yet another another rock interview (two, if you count Weird Al) this morning -- the interview-followed-by-song seems to be a new staple of the "new" D&D Show. An old segment was brought back as well -- the Jon & Kate Plus Hate fiasco inspired another discussion on guilty TV pleasures. There was also a short "Oh, Monica!" update featuring a call to her voicemail, a piece on "guy movies," as well as a porno vs. tennis "Name That Grunt" competition between Doyle & Rudy. President Obama's recent standup routine was covered as well. Other topics were as follows, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. "YEAR ONE" - D&D FREE MOVIE! (info) - We'd like to take YOU and your family to see "Year One" at the all new Emagine Woodhaven Theatre - listen to D&D all week for tickets to the Thursday night performance of "Year One" with Jack Black!
2. JASON JONES (podcast) - Jason Jones of the Daily Show on Comedy Central, called in to talk to D&D - and he assures us that - Yes, he really DID spend a week in Iran.
3. PAUL RODGERS (podcast) - D&D talked to Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers. You can catch Paul and Bad Company when they come to Detroit on tour July 1st.
4. HECKLING AT GOLF (podcast) - It seems that Tiger Woods had to deal with some intoxicated, noisy hecklers at the US Open. So why is it that golf is the only sport where you have to be quiet? Why are we allowed to heckle at other sporting events, but not golf?
5. RUDY'S CLOSE CALL (podcast) - Rudy is convinced that he was nearly killed over the weekend - and that he WASN'T killed - is sheer luck. We're glad Rudy was spared - what would the show be without him?
6. WEIRD AL (podcast) - Song-Parody-Super-Genius, Weird Al Yankovic called in to talk with D&D. And if you haven't heard his latest - "Craigslist," you MUST listen.

D&D - June 19, 2009

The Friday Game returns! It may very well be just a one-time thing instead of a weekly segment again, but even if it's not a reoccurring feature again, hopefully this won't be the last time a game concludes the Friday show. The game was Stump the Breeder, featuring Christopher and Kevin from Christopher's Salon, and the prizes were spa gift cards and NASCAR tickets in honor of Father's Day. It was a fun way to end the show; oddly enough, another game opened the show, Play the Numbers. There were also movie tickets given away to go see Harold Ramis's new flick, Year One with D&D (that's kinda gay ;^), a short segment on the pilot who died mid-flight, as well as a discussion about Jeff's upcoming surprise birthday party. Other topics were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. WORST CELEBRITY IMPERSONATORS (link) - Here are some of the worst celebrity impersonators….Do you think these people will ever get a job? Check them out here.
2. HAROLD RAMIS (podcast) - Harold Ramis is a legend...As a writer, director and actor...With films such as Stripes, Animal House, Ghostbusters, and Year One!
3. RICK ALLEN (podcast) - You know Rick Allen as the drummer for Def Leppard...They have a show coming up at DTE Friday, July 24!
4. SAM RIDDLE (podcast) - Sam Riddle, former aide to Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers joined D&D to talk about the Synagro scandal...will he take a plea deal, and what's next in this story...

D&D - June 18, 2009

Is it Friday yet? This has been a very slow week. And it'll be a very long summer waiting for hockey to return. I remember the Beach (roller) Hockey League that ESPN used to carry back in the 1990's...with the crap on Versus today, don't you think they'd work with the NHL to have some off-season coverage? Any publicity is gotta be good publicity for the NHL, right? Anyway...featured on today's show were discussions about how to beat those pesky speed traps, Obama's ninja fly attack, the idiot right-wingnut David Letterman protesters, nasty maggot and tapeworm stories inspired by National Sushi Day, and Matt Millen's whining. There were also a couple Deminski-isms, as he talked about his upcoming 45th birthday and his neuroses about his step-father (which prompted a funny on-air call to his mom). Rudy chipped in with a name-that-celebrity-pseudonym game. Here are a few other topics from this morning's show, thanks to WCSX.com:

1. LEWIS BLACK (podcast) - Quite possibly one of the funniest men in America - Lewis Black called in to talk with D&D. Always entertaining to talk to this guy, and he usually has listeners, as well as the guys laughing their ass off before he hangs up.
2. MARK WILAMOWSKI (podcast) - Very cool guy - Mark Wilamowski of State Farm Insurance, who sponsors our web cam. Mark will be throwing out the first pitch at this weekends Tiger's game, and his wife will be singing the national anthem. Leave it to D&D to put even more pressure on the guy.
3. MT. CLEMENS PIT BULL PROPOSAL (podcast) - The city of Mt. Clemens is proposing some VERY steep rules for and guidlines for all pit-bull owners. Listen closely - that’s the sound of Nicole Salem's head exploding.
4. OH, MONICA! (link) - This week on Oh, Monica! -- Catch up with the councilwoman as she tries in vain to get God on her side. Will God show up to court as a character witness?

D&D - June 17, 2009

Today's show definitely had a (management-influenced?) classic-rock flavor to it, from the San Fran Gate "zombie rock" article and follow-up calls, to the three songs played during the show (granted, one was by Weird Al), to the C.S.N. interview about their new record. Nearly six months later, it seems to be that the D&D Show is mostly fitting in well with the new station, but there do appear to be a few internal conflicts. Matt Drudge-wanna be Gregg Henson put forward his two cents last month, but some of his points do have credit. Jeff's personal blog was scrubbed of the anti-management posts, for one, and there do seem to be more local topics. For me, a lot of the good D&D shows in the past have been like audible, interactive funny FARK articles.

Non-music topics today ranged from stories about local schizo killers (including Jeff's ex-mother-in-law -- okay, she wasn't a killer, just a schizo), texting while driving and road rage, zombie rock, the resurgence in vasectomy popularity, and stupid infomercials. The guys also interviewed Justin Denney and his dad; he was the Maine student who was denied a diploma for blowing a kiss to his mom. Other segments were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. MEGAN FOX - LONELY BOY (pic) - Give this kid credit, he's trying to show his love to Megan Fox...
2. WEIRD AL'S NEW SONG - CRAIGSLIST (video) - Check out the new Weird Al song...a tribute to The Doors (including Ray Manzarek on keyboards) - check it out!
3. CROSBY, STILLS & NASH (podcast) - Crosby, Stills & Nash joined D&D to talk about their new "Demos" CD being released. Then D&D played some previously unreleased CSN - and we think you'll like it!
4. WIERD (sic) AL (podcast) - You have to listen to this HILARIOUS new Weird Al parody of "When the Music's Over" that Ray Manzarek actually plays keyboards on. It’s called "Craigslist."
5. OH MONICA (podcast) - Channel 4's Kevin Dietz called in to talk to D&D about - yes - Monica Conyers. Monica is alleged to have taken bribes to approve a $47 million sludge handling contract for the city. [Bonus: did you catch the caller cussing Monica out on the air?]
6. ANDREW FEUSTEL (podcast) - D&D talked to astronaut Andrew Feustel - who completed a dangerous space walk and repaired the Hubble telescope. Oh yeah- he's a local guy!

D&D - June 16, 2009

It was a little bit of a different kind of show this morning; the hypnotist segment took up probably around half the show (as evidenced by the three podcasts). Like Doyle, I'm quite skeptical of it, but anything that will allow us to laugh at someone is worth a few bucks in my book. :) David Letterman's (forced?) apology was discussed, as was the proposed Detroit liquor ban for strip clubs. Doyle's music-nerdiness was on display with a name-that-song-featuring-a-woman's-name game. A new record was set as well as both a guest and a caller cussed on air (well, on the webstream at least). Other topics featured this morning were, thanks (mostly) to WCSX.com:

1. KEVIN LEPINE (3 podcasts) - Comedian/Hypnotist Kevin Lepine is shooting a special for Comedy Central at the Emerald Theater, and he stopped by to hang out on the D&D show. Kevin hypnotized our very own Jim O'Brien!!
2. ROD ALLEN (podcast) - Rod Allen called in to chat with D&D and give his weekly Detroit Tigers report. Make sure to follow Rod on Twitter as well!
3. BOB TYRRELL (link) - D&D had an early (late for Bob) interview with Bob Tyrrell, the Detroit-area tattoo artist most known for Kid Rock's eagle tattoo.
4. HUNCH.COM (link) - "Stumped on a tough decision? [Hunch is] there to help." Magic 8-ball anyone? For those indecisive times...
5. D-list Week of 6-15 (video) - Weekly D&D update video.

D&D - June 15, 2009

The WCSX webstream carried the over-the-air commercials again today, so there are a bit more ads in this recording than normal. Not a whole lot happened over the weekend. There wasn't a whole lot on TV; even sports-wise, the Tigers had a bad weekend. There was some stupid basketball game and a boring hockey game on as well -- I bet the NASCAR race was more exciting than either of those. D&D spent some time talking about the aforementioned boring hockey game as well as a few other things, including whether using washcloths in the shower makes you gay, a fat White Castle patron who's "madd'r'n fish grease," Jeff's petition to abolish Father's Day, restaurant food "tampering," and opinions about the best fast food to eat after a night at the bar. Also, Jim O'Brien wants the same "self-hammering hammer" that I want. Other topics were as follows, thanks to WCSX.com:

1. MAKE IT IN MICHIGAN! (link) - On June 1st, GM announced that it would build its newest car in the United States instead of in China. Three plants are candidates to build this car: Tennessee, Wisconsin and Lake Orion...we feel that it makes sense to build it here - click here to check out the Make It In Michigan website and lend your support.
2. COMFORT WIPE - ADMIT IT, YOU WANT IT (video) - It's the hottest informercial sweeping (wiping?) the nation - it's the Comfort Wipe!! Check it out!
3. MAKE IT IN MICHIGAN (podcast) - Congressman Gary Peters was on the show promoting "Make It In Michigan." Urging people to sign a petition to build the next generation of small GM cars in Michigan...
4. LONGEST & SHORTEST CONCERTS (podcast) - Springsteen did a marathon concert at Bonnaroo...Something like 3 hours! What was the longest and or shortest concert you ever attended?
5. CRINGE WORTHY INJURIES (podcast) - It came out that Lidstrom suffered a speared testicle during the playoffs...So in honor of the captain we took calls on your cringe worthy injuries!
6. RED BULL AIR RACE (podcast) - Rudy had the chance to check out the Red Bull Air Race this past weekend...We think he may be lying since he didn't know if they planes had propellers...That or he was to wasted to notice!

D&D - June 12, 2009

Go Wings! In honor, I'll break out a song parody I wrote back in high school:

Game 7
(To the tune of Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton)

Will they chant my name when I play in Game 7?
Will I feel pride or shame when I played in Game 7?
It won't be long, 'till we get it on
And I know I'll give it all in Game 7

I'll have lots of fans when I play in Game 7
They'll all fill the stands when I play in Game 7
I'll find a way to make the saves
Cause I know I'm on my game in Game 7

Time is winding down, we've got a two-goal lead
Time to do my part, make 'em yell and scream
Yell and scream

The final score: We won by four
And I know I closed the door in Game 7

Now let plan parades, I'm the star of Game 7
I just played my game and we won it in 7
They play my song, the party's on
Cause I know I gave it all in Game 7
Cause I know I gave it all in Game 7...

Here are a few topics from today's (Red Wings-dominated) show, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. WOULD YOU DO THE RIGHT THING? (podcast) - Yesterday an armored truck lost A LOT of money on I-75. Several people stopped to help themselves to some of the cash that spilled out onto the highway. The police are asking them to return the money. What would you do?
2. KEN DANIELS IN STUDIO (podcast) - This is it. It's Do or Die. Tonight the Red Wings will play Game 7 against the Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals. Fox Sports Detroit play by play announcer Ken Daniels stopped by to talk hockey with D&D.
3. JIM'S NEW FAMILY ADDITIONS (podcast) - Jim O'Brien and family adopted two adorable kittens. Jim thinks it is only fitting to name the new little ones after Red Wings players. His family is NOT sold on that idea.
4. DIGITAL TRANSITION IS HERE! (podcast) - The digital transition has happened. Did you get your converter box? Do you know anyone who is living in the dark ages? What technology are people resisting? And why?
5. JOHN TURTURRO (imdb) - D&D interviewed the guy soon to be competing with himself at the box office - he stars in both the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
6. DON'T STOP BELIEVING (zshare) - Download the update version of the Red Wings remix of Journey's classic song - pulled from webstream.

D&D - June 11, 2009

"Victory attained by violence is tantamount to a defeat, for it is momentary." - Mahatma Gandhi

Right-wing terrorism strikes again; on the heels of the assassination of a women's health doctor last week, a white supremacist nutjob attacked DC's Holocaust Museum and managed to only (fortunately) kill a security guard. What's coming next? My Deathpool Dave-ish macabre prediction is a bunch of psycho gun-freaks hole themselves up Waco-style in order to "protect their guns from the Democrats." That would pretty much sum up the trifecta of extreme social conservative rallying points -- God (abortion), Gays (hate crimes in general), and Guns.

Oh yeah, there was a Deminski & Doyle show today. Their repudiation of the Big Fat Idiot's call to boycott GM got me going, sorry. D&D followed their precedent of avoiding political talk -- except when they affect (or originate in) Detroit. Other, less controversial segments today included Doyle almost running someone over on M-39, a guide to female vocabulary, an interview with Elijah Ward (the author of How the Beatles Destroyed Rock and Roll). The million-dollar Israeli mattress story was mentioned as well; listeners called in with their best-known crazy ways to hide money. Other topics were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. ROD ALLEN (podcast) - Rod Allen, of Fox Sport Detroit, called in to talk GAME 7 of the Redwings Stanley cup playoffs. It's winner takes all. (Can you feel the excitement?) GO WINGS!
2. KURT BUSCH (podcast) - D&D [got] to talk to Kurt Busch this morning. This week, Kurt will be at Michigan International Speedway. Tickets available at www.MI-Speedway.com.
3. TOO SEXY FOR THIS TOWN? (podcast) - D&D spoke with a pole dance instructer that is coming under fire from residents and officials in Orion because she opened a studio there. Just what is the problem with a pole dance studio? D&D find out.
4. BOYCOTTING GM?? (podcast) - Apparently 17% of Americans [that fat slob Rush Limbaugh must count for at least 2%] think it is a good idea to actually boycott GM, because of the loan they are recieving. We wonder, will these people also boycott the banks that recieved bail out money? Hmm...
5. A PILLOW THAT HOLDS YOUR DEAD PET’S ASHES? (podcast) - Some crazy woman (Surprisingly, NOT Nicole Salem!) invented a PILLOW that holds your dead pet’s ashes...Umm...so you can sleep with them? From cremation, saving the ashes - and even taxidermy - D&D have heard it all.
6. JIM'S SHOCKING NOSE HAIR CONFESSION (podcast) - After men reach a certain age, it's pretty common knowledge that things like nose hair come with the territory. Most men get a nose hair trimmer to deal with this. Jim O'Brien isn't most men.

D&D - June 10, 2009

Here's my own version of play the numbers. Finish the sentence, "The last time..."

2003 - ...the home team went 7-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals.
2002 - ...the Wings won the Cup at home (the only modern Wings Championship team that Ozzie was not a part of).
1998 - ...a team (Detroit) won back-to-back Cups; ironically, the previous team before that was Pittsburgh (1991-92).
1984 - ...the previous year's Stanley Cup finalists met again; the Oilers prevented the Islanders from five-peating.
1971 - ...a home team lost a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup finals (only happened two out of 16 14 times)
1955 - ...the Red Wings played in a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup finals (it was in Detroit and they beat Montreal)

And one more:

1987 - Birth year of Cindy Crosby (according to Bill Doyle :^). (edit: Doyle used this gag a few times a couple days later as well on 6/12 when talking about Game 7, so it was definitely intentional...)

Non-hockey segments included another round of Play the Numbers, a few entries from whymyexsucks.com, and a fake 1933 fidelity test, as well as listener opinions on the topics of automatic speed cameras (akin to red light cameras), horrible drivers, and over-cologning. From WCSX.com, other things on the minds of Deminski & Doyle included, but were not limited to:

1. MIRACLE ON THE HUDSON ANIMATION (podcast) - Check out this animation from the NTSB that shows the flight path and communications of US Airways Flight 1549.
2. DAVID CARRADINE (podcast) - As you may know David Carradine passed away recently...In kind of a strange way...Seems Carradine was into some weird stuff...Bondage, tying himself up, and the list goes on...One of his ex-wives tells some of the secrets...except where’s the gimp?
3. MOVIE REMAKES (podcast) - There is talk of a remake of Saturday Night Fever...FAIL! What movies should not have been remade? Rollerball, King Kong, Planet Of The Apes (you can stop us anytime) Night Of The Living Dead, Halloween...
4. CHRIS CHELIOS (podcast) - All star, and future Hall Of Fame defenseman Chris Chelios talked to D&D this morning about game 6 and how the Red Wings can bring home another Stanley Cup to Detroit!
5. KEN DANIELS (podcast) - Ken Daniels, FSD play-by-play announcer for the Red Wings checked in this morning to recap game 6 and preview game 7! Go Red Wings!

D&D - June 9, 2009

I think the verdict is unanimous now -- with Beaver gone, Rudy is definitely the show's bitch now. Not saying that's a bad thing, but Beaver's cantankerousness is certainly missed. I would have loved to have seen his reaction when asked if he'd carry an octopus around town. Probably something like, "I ain't touching that f-----g thing. Get away from me. I'll kill you." :)

Funny show today. The 6:05am interview seems to be a new thing for the guys -- today it was Mark Malkoff, the comedian who is living on airplanes for a month to get past his fear of flying. There was also a discussion of "sexy but ugly" celebrities and a debate about Michigan support for gay rights for penguins (named Sydney and Evgeni) that brought out the fucking nutjobs. You know you're hardcore when you're to the right of Dick Cheney on an issue. Here are a few more topics from the show, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. RUDY & STANLEY THE OCTOPUS (pics) - Rudy took the D&D pet octopus Stanley around town to get people to touch him for good luck! This included a stop at a Walgreen's, FOX 2, National Coney Island, and various street corners! Go Red Wings!
2. MIKE "DOC" EMERICK (podcast) - Doc Emerick of NBC called in to talk about Game 6, tonight. Then, D&D check in with Rudy and Stanley - the honorary good luck Red Wings octopus! Go Wings!
3. DRIVE-IN THEATERS (podcast) - While probably not the most technologically advanced, and probably not the best sound or picture quality - you got to watch a movie from the privacy of your own car with that special someone. Just for that, weren't drive-ins awesome?
4. THE END OF JOE VISION? (podcast) - If the Red Wings were to win the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh, being at the Joe Louis Arena watching the game on Joe Vision seems like the next best thing to actually having them win the cup at home, right? Well...not anymore. It seems that NBC is doing away with Joe Vision.
5. RUDY AND STANLEY ON FOX 2 (podcast) - Rudy and Stanley the Octopus went around Metro Detroit this morning to get fans pumped up for the Red Wings Game 6 tonight! Rudy and Stanley even made it on TV with Fox 2!
6. D-list Week Of 6/8 (video) - Weekly D&D update video.

Stanley Cup, here we come. As an adopted Wings fan, I guess my loyalties aren't as hardcore as most people's, but I would not be disappointed at all to see them fall in Game 6 in order to have a chance to win the Cup at home. That would be the first time for the Wings since 1955 -- when, ironically, the home team won every game that series (just like this one so far) when they beat Montreal in 7. Non-hockey topics included a viewing of Nicole's teeth (and calls regarding other folk's saved body parts) and a top 10 bad national anthem rendition list (with clips). There were also a few other segments; see below, thanks to WCSX.com:

1. WOODSTOCK INTERVIEW (podcast) - They are releasing a new version of Woodstock...Including never before seen footage of CCR...D&D had the chance to speak to 3 guys that were actually there! Gregg Rollie of Santana, Stu Cook of CCR, and Jocko Marcellino of Sha Na Na...Wait what?
2. OLD SCHOOL VS. NEW SCHOOL (podcast) - Which do you prefer the old school video games or the new school games? Jeff likes old school especially PONG...Doyle is into the newer games...You make the call!
3. KEN DANIELS (podcast) - FSN play-by-play announcer for the Red Wings Ken Daniels called in this morning...Ken gave us a recap of game 5 and a preview of game 6...1 more victory and Stanley is ours!
4. JENNIFER BUCHANAN (podcast) - Jennifer Buchanan, the mother of Nevaeh Buchanan, has not been ruled out of a possible participant in her daughters disappearance...Are you suspicious of her?
5. JUSTIN BARTHA (podcast) - You know Justin Bartha from the National Treasure movies! Now he is staring in The Hangover...BTW he also went to West Bloomfield High School!
6. HOTEL ROOM THIEF (podcast) - Are you a hotel room thief? Doyle thinks even the shampoo is off limits for the taking...Jeff and Rudy seem to share a different opinion!

D&D - June 5, 2009

Not sure what's up with the D&D website today; it's 1pm and there still aren't any podcasts up. (edit: D&D website now has their daily podcasts up, see below) Here's a quick rundown on what I remember from the show this morning: a TON of interviews, including one with one of the fisherman who found Nevaeh Buchanan's body, as well as a conversation with WXYT's Mara McDonald about the case; a discussion with Rick Baron, the "Man With the Super Brain;" a quick word with one of the first gastric bypass surgeons, Dr. John Linner, about his 2007 book, "Normandy to Okinawa;" and a couple minutes with Frank Vincent about the whacking of his new Miller Lite commercials. Ken Daniels also popped on the air to discuss the Red Wings and their sudden slide in the Stanley Cup Finals -- this was a running theme throughout the show, as Doyle and FOX 2's Ryan Ermanni updated us at the bottom of each hour. Doyle filled in again for Jason Carr, while Rudy filled in for the toothless Nicole Salem (dejá vu, anyone?) -- both are (I believe) scheduled to be back on Monday.

dd.WCSX.com podcasts:

1. KEN DANIELS (podcast) - OK so the Stanley Cup Finals are now tied 2-2 between the Red Wings and the Penguins...We're not worried...Neither is FSN play-by-play announcer Ken Daniels...Ken called in this morning to preview game 5.
2. FRANK VINCENT (podcast) - Italian-Americans are all po'ed about the Miller Lite commercials with Frank Vincent offering "protection." Everyone knows Frank Vincent..."Go get your shine box!" D&D talked to their idol Frank this morning!
3. LOWELL KIRK (podcast) - A body discovered in the River Raisin Thursday is believed to be that of a missing 5-year-old Monroe girl. Nevaeh Buchanan was last seen May 24 in the parking lot of an apartment complex about 35 miles south-southwest of Detroit. Ryan Bickley, 15, told Local 4 that his father, Guy Bickley, and grandfather, Lowell Kirk, were fishing on the river near Ida Maybee Road and spotted a block of poured cement and noticed a bad smell. Lowell Kirk was kind enough to talk to D&D this morning and share his chilling experience...
4. INSTANT TURN-OFFS (podcast) - Heather Graham is a goddess in the eyes of Jeff Deminski...well after hearing a clip of her laughing that obsession is now over...What is your instant turn-off?

D&D - June 4, 2009

Wonder how much money Deathpool Dave won with David Carradine (best known for Kung Fu)? Maybe I should start playing along -- I need another fantasy "sport" now that hockey season is almost over. Speaking of hockey, my prediction for tonight is 5-2 Wings, Pavel gets back on the board with a pair of goals, including the game winner. And your lotto numbers for today are 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42.

Segments from the show (not podcasted by WCSX) included a rundown of various meaningless school year graduations, an origins of band names quiz, another round of the Failtrain known as Play the Numbers, a story about an "OBGYN practicing his love for women," and some dental horror stories shared with Nicole on her final day with her wisdom (HAHA irony!) teeth. Here's the Nicole-talking-to-taxi-diver mix they played, and here (well, below here) are a few more topics from this morning from WCSX.com:

1. MAKE NICOLE CRY, WIN A PRIZE (podcast) - D&D's traffic reporter Nicole Salem will be having all 4 (impacted) wisdom teeth r[e]moved tomorrow morning. Not only has she never had a tooth pulled - she's never even had a cavity! So it's safe to say she's terrified. Being good pals, D&D invited their listeners to call in with their worst dental horror stories. The first one to make Nicole cry gets a prize. Nicole will be forwarding the bill from her therapy to D&D.
2. ROD ALLEN (podcast) - Fox's Rod Allen called in to give D&D listeners his weekly Tiger's Baseball report. Oh yeah - Rod would really appreciate it if you checked him out on Twitter.
3. JON HEFFRON (podcast) - Comedian Jon Heffron joined D&D in studio today. Jon will be appearing at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase this weekend. John is no stranger to Detroit - he was born here!
4. THINGS YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW (podcast) - You know that expression "TMI?" As in "Too much information?" At some time or another, we will all run into someone that finds the need to give us too many details. [Listen for what Deminski did to his mom...]
5. "DON'T STOP BELIEVING" RED WINGS REMIX (download) - Download the awesome Journey remix made by WCSX's Jerry Guyson (64 kbps mp3, pulled from webstream).
6. D-list Week of 6-1 (video) - D&D weekly update video.

D&D - Jun 3, 2009

Condolences to Jason Carr on the loss of his father. I know he's probably not thinking about this, but it sucks he won't get to really enjoy another Red Wings Stanley Cup championship with this on his mind. Doyle has done a good job the last couple days covering the sports reports. Props to Jim O'Brien for booking a progressive pundit (Richard Wolffe) after the McCotter interview from a couple days ago turned more partisan that it should have been given the topic. Other subjects covered today included moonshine-related deaths and experiences, an attempt to define "Classic Rock," an update on the future of Tiger Stadium, and a casting call for an imaginary Red Wings movie. There were also these, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. CHRIS CHELIOS (podcast) - D&D talk to Chris Chelios about last nights game and the officiating debacle that occured. Oh, and just in case a movie were ever to be made about the Red Wings - D&D tell Chris which actor they think should portray him.
2. D&D ON NANCY GRACE! (podcast) - Earlier this week, D&D spoke to Jennifer Buchanan - mother of Nevaeh, the missing 5 year old girl from Monroe, MI. That interview made it all the way to the Nancy Grace show! Listen to Nancy herself playing clips and reacting to the interview conducted by our very own D&D.
3. HOME MADE BOOZE (podcast) - Have you ever tried making your own alcohol? Everything from beer to Moonshine - someone has tried to make their own. Of course whether it was safe enough to drink? That's a whole other story.
4. FORREST GRIFFIN (podcast) - UFC Former Light Heavyweight champion Forest Griffin checked in with D&D this morning. Griffin is currently fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship Promotion. [Very funny guy!]
5. RICHARD WOLFFE (book) - D&D interviewed political pundit Richard Wolffe, author of a new book about the 2008 Obama campaign, Renegade. And no, it's not about STYX.

D&D - Jun 2, 2009

Red Wings Game 3, new Dave Matthews Band CD, and an interview with Rod Meloni (sorry, trying to rap). Good show today; among things discussed today were D&D's idea to eliminate all marriages (glad to hear Doyle is pro-equal marriage), a new GM propaganda commercial (here's an old one), a tiny bit about Conan's new gig, a discussion with WCSX's John Gallagher about upcoming radio legislation, a guitar quiz, and a couple of sports reports by Doyle. D&D - Jun 1, 2009

Let's Go Red Wings! (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) What a weekend for Wings fans. And for Justin Abdelkader. They should call him "The Insurance Salesman." Today's show was full of Wings talk (including an interview with Doc Emerick in which D&D got him to pick on Pierre "LuvsSydney" McGuire). Other than the topics below, there were a few other interesting discussions, such as Deminski's crossdressing son, grunting tennis chicks, Jonathon Ericsson's appendix and us normal folk "playing hurt," Arthur Kade's Sasha-Baron-Cohen-like blog, Conan O'Brien / good and bad past talk shows, and an interview with partisan hack (and Harry Potter villian?) Congressman Thaddeus McCotter. There were also--courtesy of WCSX.com--these gems:

1. JENNIFER BUCHANAN (podcast) - Jennifer Buchanan, the mother of Nevaeh Buchanan, of Monroe Michigan called in to talk with D&D. Nevaeh has been missing for 8 days. Police have had several leads, but so far no charges have been made, and there is still no sign of Nevaeh. [She must not be a D&D listener, otherwise I don't think she would have come on the show after what they've said about her...and what was with the "no comment" comment?]
2. DOC EMERICK (podcast) - When it comes to the legendary voices of hockey - Mike "Doc" Emerick immediatly comes to mind. The play-by-play voice of the Stanley Cup Finals on NBC and Versus called in to review games 1 and 2 with D&D.
3. THAT DOG COST HOW MUCH!? (podcast) - Jeff saw an absurdly expensive Chihuahua at a mall pet store. Are people really dropping hundreds or even thousands of dollars on dogs? Or are most of you adopting your beloved four legged family members from shelters and rescues?
