D&D - Nov 30, 2009

Back to live D&D -- for one day at least. The guys are off tomorrow and Wednesday while Jeff's daughter has surgery. Definitely more important things in life than keeping us entertained, though they did a pretty good job of that today. There was a gluttony of web content today (see below), along with segments about bed bugs, listeners' favorite Christmas songs and albums, and the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concert on HBO. D&D - Nov 27, 2009 - Best Of

Another "Best Of" show today -- it was a lot more robust in regards to the D&D segments than yesterday. The podcast is almost an hour and a half today as opposed to less than an hour yesterday. Dave Doran aired old D&D interviews with CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Cheers' George Wendt, Police drummer Stewart Copeland, actor Gene Hackman, and Star Wars: the Musical narrator (and C3P0 actor) Anthony Daniels. Most of these guys were on to plug books; Wendt's "Drinking With George," Copeland's "Strange Things Happen," and Hackman's "Escape from Andersonville." Dr. Gupta is also the recent author of "Cheating Death." The only non-interview segment to be reaired during these holiday repeats was the segment from last month about teaching your kids to fight back.

D&D - Nov 26, 2009 - Best Of

"Best Of" show today, as expected. The entire morning crew apparently had the day off, as Dave Doran filled in. Only three D&D segments were played amongst all the music -- their conversation with Harry Shearer from September, the Josh Pelt ("Miracle on the Hudson" survivor) interview from sometime in 2009 (can't for the life of me figure out when they talked to this guy), and the in-studio appearance of "The Big Man," Clarence Clemons from October. Not sure if there'll be a regular show tomorrow or not, but we'll get it up here whether it is or not.

We had an interview, a few news items, and a Password game (bisected by the 8:30 sports report) that didn't make it onto the website today. Wayne County Prosecuter Kym Worthy dialed in to chat about her opposition to violent video games (props to her for coming on the air with two guys who she knew disagreed with her) and Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel is calling on temporarily-deputized Macombites to NARC on suspected drunk drivers during the biggest bar night of the year tonight. Clips were played from last night's "V" pseduo-finale, Lewis Black's anti-holiday History Channel special, and a stupid PETA ad that caused NBC channel their inner Sarah Palin. There was also a report on the backlash towards Best Buy for their crime of being nice to Muslims. Podcasted topics were, as selected by the non-pardoned sad turkeys at WCSX.com:

Ton o' podcasts again today; the only segments that didn't get a mention on the website today were a show-opening round of Play the Numbers and a discussion about "bucket lists" (inspired by Rudy's dream to run with cocks asses bulls). The "Keepin' Up With Karen Savelly" segue was present once more. D&D - Nov 23, 2009

We got some old-school D&D today. After suggesting it to each other last week, the guys went back to the AC/DC opening song this morning. And after it was suggested on here last week (we're not claiming responsibility or anything :), the "Chat With Karen Savelly" segment to end the show returned. I believe this was the first time they did a segue into Karen's show since the 4th hour of the morning show was dropped back in April. The "classic D&D formula" continued throughout the first two hours of the show with five call-in segments; along with #2 and #5 below, listeners called in to suggest an anniversary song for a couple Deminski met at the Sherwood Brewery over the weekend, to tell their kidney stone stories, and to play "Guess the Stupid Celebrity Baby Names." D&D - Nov 19, 2009

We all have our addictions, as Doyle (and Dexter) have pointed out in the past. Doyle has discussed his on the show in the past and Deminski brought up his today -- he's still a smoker. Jeff shouldn't (and doesn't) take solace in the fact that our president has apparently fallen off the wagon as well (granted, Obama had a slightly harder 2008, even taking D&D's no-compete into consideration). The "WCSX Great American Smokeout" lasted all of about ten hours; if he isn't careful, he'll have to start cataloging his stuff to see what goes to Jack and what will go to Mina. Either that or he'll end up as #4543 on People's "Sexiest Dead Celebrities" list. As a consolation, he'd be a 55+ point get in a celebrity death pool. In other news, two songs were left intact in the show today; another unreleased Bob Seger song from his new CD and last night's appearance by Ray Davies of The Kinks on Letterman. The Morena Baccarin interview seemed to set the tone for today. No, Jeff wasn't drooling for the whole show. But it was a bit of a freak-fest. Rudy showed his nasty toes to the webcam, Kwame Kilpatrick was apparently interviewed on a spaceship (with trippy 60's background music), Jim offered his ideas about which celebrities are actually alien lizard people, and a (hopefully, for his sake) mentally ill Highland Park dad killed his son execution-style in front of witnesses. Odd that a story about the song "Stairway to Heaven" doesn't even rank in the top five of weirdest moments on the show. First-ever "...and Doyle" show on WCSX. I remember several of the "Deminski & Rudy" or "Beaver & Doyle" shows on 97.1, but I'm 99.9% sure this is the first time it's happened on 94.7. As foreshadowed a couple days ago, Jeff was off today after his son was confirmed with H1N1 -- even though he doesn't have it, Greater Media policy said he had to stay home. Nice way to get a three-day weekend, Jeff! Kidding aside, I hope his son gets better soon. The guys aired a few audio clips recorded by Jim O'Brien at yesterday's Swine Flu Vaccination Party at the Palace and took some calls from listeners in regards to their companies' H1N1 policies. I think today's show was done...on weed? We had segments about predicting the weather by using worms and pig spleens, an ethical discussion about a personal financial gain linked to a random death (inspired by this movie), a story about a space hotel (with $4.4 million dollar rooms), and ponderings about the conflicts between legal medical marijuana and employers' drug screening policies. D&D - Nov 2, 2009

There were a ton of giveaways today, including a gluttony of concert tickets (Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Don Henley, etc) and a PS3 video game pack. Pretty interesting segments as well -- Nicole and Rudy recounted their night spent at a haunted local Army fort, listeners called in to share their alarm clock strategies, and to fill the classic rock quota, clips from some newly-released Bob Seger songs were played. Smaller topics included a self-absorbed pet owner story, a couple post-Halloween news items (urban legends and dentist promotions), and a 911 call from a guilty drunk driver.
