D&D - Nov 9, 2009

We had a very sports-centric opening hour of the show (perhaps due to Deminski's continued absence); the Lions' false hopes and broken promises were highlighted, Andre Agassi's confessions were made public, and last Friday's interview of Steve Yzerman was replayed. Other topics from today included a few updates -- the newest on the Ft. Hood shooting, a possible Aerosmith breakup, and local poker hero Joe Cada's amazing comeback at the World Series of Poker (which spurred a debate over the "sportiness" of Texas Hold-Em). There were also a couple music-related stories; Britney Spears lip-synchs (REALLY?) and Jim reviewed a John Fogerty concert. In other (most likely unrelated) news, Rudy will be at the Blockbuster in Orion Township tonight for the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Miss England got in a bar brawl. D&D - Nov 6, 2009

First-ever "...and Doyle" show on WCSX. I remember several of the "Deminski & Rudy" or "Beaver & Doyle" shows on 97.1, but I'm 99.9% sure this is the first time it's happened on 94.7. As foreshadowed a couple days ago, Jeff was off today after his son was confirmed with H1N1 -- even though he doesn't have it, Greater Media policy said he had to stay home. Nice way to get a three-day weekend, Jeff! Kidding aside, I hope his son gets better soon. The guys aired a few audio clips recorded by Jim O'Brien at yesterday's Swine Flu Vaccination Party at the Palace and took some calls from listeners in regards to their companies' H1N1 policies. Deminski also called in with a report from "Ground Zero."

Slim pickings on the official podcast page today; other topics from today's show included an opening segment about yesterday's tragedy in Texas, a call-in segment about bands replacing their lead singers and an upcoming Bruce Springsteen autobiography, an intra-office discussion about this season's TV shows, and a long debate about old toys and contenders for the Toy Hall of Fame. There were also a few short filler bits about a Florida flasher's creative excuse, the worst Korean driver in the world, and a replay of part of an old Don Henley interview. P.S. I happened to be listening to a show from earlier this year back from when D&D had a four-hour (or four-hour-plus) show. They used to chat with Karen Savelly from time to time during the "segue" between shows, á la Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert or Keith Olbermann & Rachel Maddow. I wonder what happened to that? Did the guys piss off Karen by leaving broken eggs and glass and balut smell in the studio? ;)

D&D - Nov 5, 2009

Whole lotta more giveaways today -- must be Write-Off week for WCSX. Comedian J. Chris Newberg joined D&D in the studio this morning, not sure why it wasn't officially podcasted (listen to his segment here). There was also another round of Play the Numbers, a discussion about the new ABC remake of the old sci-fi classic "V," and a quick mention of Carrie Prejean's sex tape -- this was seriously deserving of an FCC fine-worthy segment. Holy crap, that's a lot of podcasts! Hope y'all listened to the 8am hour, though, 'cuz that didn't get represented in the podcasts. Topics missed included a list of sexy male accents (Rudy's fake Arabic accent was not on the list), a story about stress on today's youth, an article about a dad narc'ing on his pot-growing daughter, and an interview with new Detroit City Councilman Gary Brown. D&D - Nov 3, 2009

I think today's show was done...on weed? We had segments about predicting the weather by using worms and pig spleens, an ethical discussion about a personal financial gain linked to a random death (inspired by this movie), a story about a space hotel (with $4.4 million dollar rooms), and ponderings about the conflicts between legal medical marijuana and employers' drug screening policies. WDIV's Rod Meloni also called in to talk about Ford's "high" 3rd quarter profit. Web-worthy topics were, as selected by the Space Olympians over at WCSX.com:

1. THE BEST MOVIE CLIP MASH-UP EVER! (video) - This clip is amazing. Some editing genius named Ricardo Autobahn had the incredible idea to make a song out of ... movie clips. D&D - Nov 2, 2009

There were a ton of giveaways today, including a gluttony of concert tickets (Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Don Henley, etc) and a PS3 video game pack. Pretty interesting segments as well -- Nicole and Rudy recounted their night spent at a haunted local Army fort, listeners called in to share their alarm clock strategies, and to fill the classic rock quota, clips from some newly-released Bob Seger songs were played. Smaller topics included a self-absorbed pet owner story, a couple post-Halloween news items (urban legends and dentist promotions), and a 911 call from a guilty drunk driver.
