I would like to speak about the question regarding lifetime alimony. I want to state first that I am against lifetime alimony. Even when someone is married for 40 years, the assets are split evenly. Therefore if the parties are in their 60's. Both spouses received what they should for retirement and therefore why should one have to work until they are 85 so the other can retire with 1/2 the assets and alimony as a pension.

The idea of permanent alimony first came up when the assets were not divided equally. If, for example, the monied party received 75% of the assets
and 100% of the pensions there would be a case for lifetime alimony. Over 20 years ago the law changed whereby assets are split 50/50. At that time lifetime alimony became unfair.
