Eleven months...

It's been nearly eleven months since the last live, permanent D&D show, and nearly three months since their last substitute run on WPHT. Since then, WPHT has moved Michael Smerconish, their morning guy, to afternoons and premiered a new, local morning show. A Grand Rapids AM talk station, WJRW, also hired a new, local morning guy yesterday -- I was holding out a tiny chance that Jeff and Bill would be their surprise announcement. The future is looking bleak, in my not-in-the-know-at-all opinion -- Jeff and Bill aren't even friends on Facebook at the moment. One more month and they'll have hit their longest "hiatus" since they started working together in 1993. Anyone have any inside info?

Taking requests

It doesn't look like there will be any more live D&D for a while (unless they get another chance to sub in at WPHT), and we've exhausted our archives here, so we're going to go dormant for a while. Keep an eye on the D&D Yahoo Group, Jeff's blog, or one of the various D&D groups on Facebook for updates. If anyone has any requests for reposts of any shows or segments, please let us know, we can repost stuff pretty quickly.

Also, to give a quick reminder to anyone new to the blog, to download the audio clips from the Sharebee links below, the easiest way is to click the link and hit the stop button on your web browser (or the Esc key) as soon as the 4-5 hosting links appear (Rapidshare, Megaupload, etc.) -- that will usually stop the page from loading before the popup ad appears. If the popup ad (the full page one) appears, just click the red "Skip this Ad" button in the upper-right hand corner of the page. These ads aren't from us, they're from Sharebee.

Update from Deminski on the future of D&D

The sad personal news Jeff first let us in on via Facebook and later during the WPHT fill-in week is nothing new, but with his most recent blog post, he has now admitted what we've all been thinking -- this may be the beginning of the end of the Deminski & Doyle show:

"I don't know that the show will ever return now, as I can't move from a hundred mile radius once this goes through, and unless an opportunity came up right here which doesn't look likely, it means I had to choose between my career of 25 years or my kids. I chose my kids."

D&D - Aug 10, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

Last day of live D&D in Philly...for now. I'm way behind schedule so I'll try to at least get the first half of the show up this evening and the second half probably not until tomorrow.

UPDATE 6/11: Well that was fun. I forgot how much work it is to edit a full four-hour show every day. Here's hoping I'll have that opportunity in the future -- as Jeff said just before they signed off yesterday, "Hopefully we'll talk again, who knows?" This was a very full show that included a number of positive comments from WPHT listeners about their substitute hosts. I don't know how TPTB viewed it, but if this was an audition, I'd personally say it was a successful one. Topics covered during this four-hour spread included interviews with Philly Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers about a possible brownout-related fire death, Claudia Gomez of Philly's FOX 29 about illegal parking spots in the city, and John Meixner from Northwestern University about a new technology that could be used to read terrorist's thought (ok, more like read a specific, previously known brainwave frequency). Call-in segments included debated about the "Take This Job and Shove It" Jet Blue flight attendant, the death penalty (again), a lawsuit from a Mets fan injured by a flying baseball bat, as well as calls following the firehouse brownout and parking lots segments. Other stories mentioned ranged from the serious (Defense Secretary Bob Gates' thoughts on budget cuts, more on DRPA & DROP, and a possible new "Substitute Justice" position on the Supreme Court) to the silly (Jennifer Aniston's thoughts on families, falling magazine subscription numbers, and toxic dog food) to the what-the-@#$% (Stephen Hawking's "get off my planet!" rant, a possible baby-thrown-off-bridge hoax in Philly, and a Massachusetts pastor who's in favor of beating kids).

D&D - Aug 9, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

There were a number of local (Philly) story updates in this show -- some further background came out about Stacy Strauss, the woman charged in the death of the autistic 20-year-old, more numbers from the DROP retirement scandal were revealed, pedo teacher David Devine's "summer camp" was mentioned again, and Philadelphia Daily News' Stu Bykofsky (who Jeff and Bill spoke with last week) is having a "candidate's comedy night." Other topics covered included a few other local stories (merits of the death penalty in Philly, a cop's hit-and-run admission, and new ways to fight prostitution in the City of Brotherly Love) as well as another chat with Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel, a Sarah Palin vs. Kate Gosselin update, a groom killer story from Turkey, and a scientific update on the "five second rule." Call-in segments included debates on Wikileaks, Proposition 8, airport body scanners, "Obamacare," and Arizona's SB 1080. Callers also chimed in on a couple of Deminski rants -- he told a story about a shopping cart "accident" and once again gave his opinion on bicyclists.

D&D - Aug 6, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

Sorry folks -- had an emergency come up today and I wasn't able to edit the audio from Friday's show. I'll try to get it up by Sunday night, Monday afternoon at the latest (along with the audio from Monday's show).

UPDATE 8/9:
Friday's audio is up...sorry again for the delay...today's show will be up in a bit...

There weren't nearly as many call-in segment during this Friday show as there were earlier in the week -- maybe Jeff and Bill's "audition week" (my term, not meaning to start a rumor) includes many different types of shows? They did finally have a lengthy comedic segment today when they took calls about the best (and the worst) comedies of all times. Callers also got to chime in on a few other topics, ranging from corporal punishment in schools to Philadelphia police reform to the local (Philly) first-grade teacher / kiddie porn addict. Other topics covered included two replays of the 911 call by the Connecticut shooter, updates from BP and Social Security, some scattered gay news (Elena Kagan, Prop 8, and a banned book), a blown off interview from Adolf Hitler's dad, as well as an interview with Ronnie Polaneczky of the Philadelphia Daily News (and the subjects of her pet-medical care story). Smaller l'il bits talked about ranged from instant replay in baseball, MMA, the wife who discovered her husband's other wife on Facebook, a dead woman covered by laundry, and an animal hoarder. No end-of-the-week game though. :(

D&D - Aug 5, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

"What the hell is goin' on here?" Looks like WPHT's webstream wasn't working correctly until 7:35am -- on three different computers, the only thing that recorded from 5am - 7:35am were the commercials. :( It looks like D&D were on live in Philly -- they never mentioned anything about coming on late -- just not online. And seeing as how WPHT isn't putting up any "official" podcasts from D&D, all we're going to get is the last hour of a half of this show.

There wasn't much "there" there -- the two big topics from the last half of this show were, as expected, the overturning of California's Proposition 8 (I loved listening to Doyle go toe-to-toe...err, verse-to-verse...with the Jesus Freaks) as well as the local issue of DRPA and its upcoming idea of camera-based fines for toll roads. Kind of a dry topic for Michigan listeners. They also played the 911 call of yesterday's horrible Connecticut workplace shooting at the very end of the show. Can anyone in Philly (or NJ) clue us in on what we missed from 5am - 7:35am?

D&D - Aug 4, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

Jeff and Bill are really getting into this political talk and the local Philadelphia stories. They had some humorous segments during the first hour of the show including one on the "Macaca" moment of Nevada gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval -- they also mentioned the correlation between beer and weight loss, the "Twilight baby name" phenomenon, and a fake funeral scam -- as well as some heavier call-in topics later on about the local autistic man who died after being left in a hot car, the "Ground Zero Mosque" controversy, a nutty animal rights activist protesting at the PA Capitol, and the outrageous DROP "fake retirement" scheme in Philly (they spoke with Stu Bykofsky of the Philadelphia Daily News on this issue). Other topics covered included a triple-segment on the Connecticut workplace shooting (and the possible racism angle), a list of top stolen vehicles, and a rundown of the top wasteful spending projects of the 2009 Stimulus bill -- you gotta check out antweb.org! There was one flashback moment when they talked about an old WCSX interview with George Wendt from 2009.

D&D - Aug 3, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

There's a lot of déjà vu in this show...we had flashbacks to Jeff's handshake stiffing of Kwame at the 2006 SuperBowl party, a debate about elderly drivers, as well as revisiting a segment they had back in March on WPHT about rude toll workers. Other topics covered included light topics from the 5am hour such as Pam Anderson's campaign to help oil spill'd pets, a discussion about a Mike Tyson interview, a "not dead" rebuttal from Bill Cosby, as well as a few uninteresting (to me) local Philly stories. Time was also spent talking with callers about telling off politicians, air rage (on weeeeeed?), Philadelphia firehouse brownouts, and the death penalty. There were a few interesting interviews as well -- a couple local state representatives were interviewed about upcoming legislation regarding teen driver laws and teen sexting laws, and Cheryl James, the hospital worker in Michigan who was fired for a HIPPA violation (mentioned earlier in the week) chatted with D&D for a few minutes.

D&D - Aug 2, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

UPDATE 8/3: Fixed Hours 3 + 4, links updated below...Hour 4 includes Charlie Manuel interview...

It's time for some LIVE (via tape delay) Deminski & Doyle! Our primary computer lost its Internet connection sometime around 7:30am for about an hour or so, so we only have about half of each of Hour 3 and Hour 4. Hopefully our backup person recorded without incident, so that should be fixed by tomorrow. They guys did a pretty good job with their first four-hour show in over a year. Notable moments included Jeff elaborating on some of his recent personal issues and Bill's comment about GLADD's top rating of "excellent" for gay-friendly TV networks -- "You'd think it would be 'fabulous.'" Doyle sounding a little tired at various points. What's up, boy, you not used to waking up before God? I thought you were an early riser!

Anyway, topics covered included call-in segments about an Oakwood Hospital (yay Michigan story) worker fired for a Facebook HIPPA violation (though I join D&D in being sympathetic for her in this case), the elimination of most required vehicle inspections in New Jersey, the resignation of the head of the Delaware River Port Authority (another local story), government intrusion in divorce cases, the latest rulings on the Arizona Immigration law, and GLADD's "victory" over CBS (call it the "Can't Be Straight" decision). Other smaller articles included something about "Pukemon" (local story, I guess), Al Gore and Chelsea Clinton updates, as well as a few audio clips, including a rant on the floor of Congress by Rep. Anthony Weiner (they didn't mention his last name, I suppose to avoid an FCC fine?), Obama vs. Hasselbeck on the View, and a funny YouTube prank. Bill is also annoyed that you can't say "homo" on Bravo (which is ironic, if you ask me).

P.S. This is (at least part of) the reason why references to another show on WPHT were removed.

D&D - WKRK - Mar 29, 2006

This is the final 2006 show we have, and it is by far the worst quality -- sounds like it was recorded by putting a tape-player next to a desk radio (or maybe a car radio, thought I heard an engine start once). We even got to hear some phone calls and a bit of commentary from the taper during the "Should-Child-Molesters-Be-Put-To-Death?" segment. Ha! -- but honestly, we owe her (we can obviously say "her" now) and the other contributors a huge thanks. All we've done here is clean up the audio and edit it down a bit to make it more listener-friendly. Without the contributions, we wouldn't have had anything to work with -- not to mention anything to post other than a few WPHT shows since the beginning of the year!

Anyway...topics from this show included the knighting of Tom Jones, the failure of the Hooters airline, Jeff's inability to sell his Mustang, a listener e-mail about the previous day's "when to merge" discussion, the new ability to reserve parking spots, Beaver's opinion on psychotherapy, a story about Kindergarteners cleaning feces, a rant about FARK and sourcing stories, another Ricky Holland update, Nicole-on-a-leash, an unsurprising revelation about Whitney "Crackhead" Houston, and a small quip about security lags at the privately-owned Ambassador Bridge. There were also call-in segments about ideas for a birthday gift for Doyle's mom, spousal murders and ticket quotas, as well as the aforementioned non-murder death penalty bill in South Carolina.

D&D - WKRK - Feb 6, 2006

--------------------UPDATE from yesterday------------------
We only have a few shows from 2006 left -- by the end of this week, every D&D show that we've been given or that we've recorded will be up on this blog, including all of 2009 and some of 2005-07. Fortunately (for our timing, at least), starting next week, Jeff and Bill will be doing another fill-in stint at Philadelphia's WPHT. This one is quite a bit of a bigger deal than the previous ones; they're subbing for the local Philly morning show host for seven days, from Aug 2 - Aug 10, from 5am-9am. This is the first time they've been on the air since May, the first fill-in gig that's gone longer than two days, and the first time they've done a four-hour show of any kind since April, 2009. We're looking forward to it -- maybe there's something long-term in store? As was just reported, we've run out of archives to upload, so this blog will be going dormant after Aug 11 if there's no more live shows to host. Michael Smerconish, the local WPHT morning host, has been doing a lot of TV lately, so maybe he's moving on up?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the only February, 2006 show we have; the day after the Superbowl was largely spent talking about the game and other related events. Jeff talked about his man-crush on Mike Tyson and his snubbing of Kwame at the Maxim party, the guys got in touch with Hana Lee, who never showed up to said Maxim party, Rudy talked about the game (and why he left early), Doyle bragged about his Superbowl party (and the model he met, Tye Warner), callers chimed in with their opinions of the commercials, the musical talent at the game was questioned (Kristin, a listener who was on the field with the Rolling Stones, called in), and some of the controversial calls during the game were discussed. Non-football related topics included a sad report on the death of a friend of the show, "Jay the Male Stripper," as well as Al Lewis (AKA Grandpa Munster) -- which led to a call-in segment using deadoraliveinfo.com. The Mohammad cartoon and its riots were mentioned, as well as Australian sharks, a Sun Devil without pants, and a French face transplant.

Anyway, this is the last pre-Superbowl show from 2006 (speaking of the Superbowl, check out this "Detroit Lions Superbowl XLV Champions" video). There were call-in segments about "brushes with fame," inspired by all the celebs in town, Superbowl parties, as well and a chat with Jay Dubbs, the Lions "Superbowl Champs" tattoo guy, and an updated on the Pittsburgh kid who was picked on by his teacher for wearing a Broncos jersey to school. Other topics included an audio clip of the now-famous (but then newly-aired) "Stewie Beats up Brian" clip from Family Guy, a replay of a July 2005 interview with Tim Holland (who was just recently -- in Jan, 2006, that is -- arrested as a suspect in his son Ricky Holland's murder), a quick mention of ABC News' Bob Woodruff's injury in Iraq, a(nother) drunk Nicole voicemail, a foreshadowingly-gay little exchange between Rudy and his buddy Wolfe, an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, and an Ask the Beaver.

D&D - WKRK - Jan 25, 2006

This was another in a series of heavily Superbowl-laden shows including segments on a Pittsburgh-area kid who was publicly humiliated by a teacher due to his Broncos jersey (more on that tomorrow), an update on the limo situation and the downtown street closures, as well as "Big Game"-themed call-in segments such as Pittsburgh vs. Seattle culture clashes, Superbowl security measures, and another NFL Experience giveaway. Other topics included various Rudy updates, an e-mail to D&D about the "Things Beaver Wishes He Could Say at Work," a brief mention of Stewie Griffin's new talk show (what ever happened to that?), a Pat the Weirdo / Ask the Beaver submission, a story about an old horny German housewife who was forced to work at a brothel (Aunt Marty?!?), and Chris Penn's death, as well as call-in segments about paying top dollar for non-recognized "designer dogs," Beaver's take on the "eye-gazing" dating fad, and the ahead-of-the-curve Wayco company and their "wellness programs" (which are now a lot more common 5 1/2 years later).

D&D - WKRK - Jan 24, 2006

There was quite a bit of nasty-ass content during this show. Somehow a chat with Nicole about her "Underground Pitbull Railroad" morphed into a discussion about outdoor vomiting. We also had an attempted "Lorena Bobbit" story from Cambodia, a realization that hardened whale vomit is worth $300,000, and a chat with Supersize Scott about his hetero-man-friend from Pittsburgh. Other topics covered included South Korea's mail-order bride exports, a few clips from (and about) Ford's Black Monday scattered throughout the show, as well as call-in segments about Crazy Bob Turner's weird hypothetical gov't situation, whether Valentine's Day should be for wives or just girlfriends, suggestions of Detroit-themed names for listener's new puppy, a contest to win NFL Experience tickets, and some venting about the new crappy live971.com website.

This show came in the middle of the Superbowl XL hysteria in Detroit, as evidenced by Craig Schwab's dumb "Operation eXtra Large" idea, the WSJ story about tourists' plan to flee Detroit as soon as the game ends, the call-in segment (featuring a cameo by Jason Carr) about Superbowl predictions, the discussion about the "bling" that's awarded to the losers of the game, the "controversial" GoDaddy.com ads, and the tease of the lost Hour 4 segment on how to host a Superbowl party if you have a small TV. Other topics covered included the "January blues" phenomenon, some LOST news, a little celebrity news, an interview with Jeremy Bonderman (yawn), as well as call-in segments on tongue scrapers, a possible Detroit pitbull ban, "cringe" piercings, and Ford's "Black Monday."

D&D - WKRK - Dec 28, 2005 (Best Of)

Another holiday repeat show starts with an in-studio contest between three listeners who dare to chug some of the Jones Soda "holiday pack" -- never thought anyone could barf from drinking pop. Other segments aired included interview with Steve-O and Rover (the new, soon to be former morning host on WKRK), a full hour (Hour 2) of the "Blessing of the Animals" by Reverend Rudy, a call-in segment on hairy asses (really?), a man-date / man-hug story by Jeff, and an on-air poll by Jeff about whether he should chop of his dog's tail.

D&D - WKRK - Dec 27, 2005 (Best Of)

Horray for reruns -- these "Best Of" shows are constantly allowing us to listen to segments that our "fellow fan" missed during her original recordings. Today's show includes a chat about Rudy's comic books, an interview with Tonya Mezner from cheatingspousesonline.com, and call-in segments on "hardcore" mean (or realistic) doctors, the "gay panic" defense, and the Delphi scandal. We were also "treated" to a jam session between Jeff (on guitar) and Beaver (on sax).

D&D - WKRK - Dec 15, 2005

A lot of standard end-of-the-year stuff in this show -- giveaways (picking a winner from the WKRK Detroit Christmas Tree and a Red Wings Thursday that we don't have audio of), listeners reporting bad weather and bad drivers, end-of-the-year lists (top grossing concert tours in 2005), complaints about Doyle's Christmas music, and a few calls about a WSJ article on "serial returners." Other topics covered included Mindcandy's canceled Flint show, a rundown of various LOST castmembers who have been in trouble with the law, and chimp painting (that's a painting by, not of, a chimp).

D&D - WKRK - Dec 14, 2005

2005 must have been the year that Nicole Salem became a "regular" contributor to the show; she told a story during this show about a recent escapade she had while doing fill-in work for the Dr. Don show at WYCD, the local country station. Never really pegged her as a "redneck woman." Anyway -- she also chimed in on a story about a car-vs-deer-vs-police interaction and made us, like, think about her when D&D played a clip of Bruce Willis' daughters. Other topic covered included Doyle's girl scout (cookie) pimping, a 500-lb fast food scammer, "Fire Millen" t-shirts, the two "praying women" in Metro Detroit, and the biggest stories of 2005, as well as call-in segments on assless chaps (?!?), non-English speakers with drivers licenses, horrible Arab drivers (two seperate segments there), and male salons.

D&D - WKRK - Nov 25, 2005 (Best Of)

This was a day-after-Thanksgiving "Best Of" show featuring mostly unheard (to readers of this blog) segments, including a Human Scavenger Hunt, a very morbid discussion on human psychological and physical torture (Jeff is one SICK bastard and Rudy sounded a bit deranged screaming at Doyle and then Beaver about going to a Harry Potter screening), the creepiness factor of the Burger King "King" guy, a couple holiday songs (Adam Sandler and the "O Holy Night" butcher), and an unintentional debate about the popularity of carrying a pocket comb. Previously heard segments included a chat with Jeff's mom about her lottery "winnings," and call-in segments about Indian call centers and LOST and D&D drinking games.

D&D - WKRK - Nov 23, 2005

There was a lot of stuff covered in this day-before-Thanksgiving show, including call-in segments on Black Friday, Michigan drivers' lack of competency after the "first snow," and Jeff's anti-Thanksgiving dinner heresy. Other topics covered ranged from Beaver's NJ vacation nightmares, a Jiri Fischer update, and some e-mail responses after Nicole Salem's pictorial debut to a few animal stories and ideas on how to take the keys away from a drunk.

D&D - WKRK - Nov 10+15, 2005

Double post today because we only have a small section of each of these two shows. The segments we have from the 10th include the second half of discussion about visitors wandering into D&D's office and some local political news (more on Kwame and Mike Cox), as well as a listeners' responses to the question of whether adultery is more "accepted" in modern times. The majority of the section of the 11/15 show that we have is a Bon Jovi ticket giveaway featuring the "D&D Wheel of Winning," a random game-choosing tool for the callers. Other topics from that show included Snoop Dogg's new foot-long hot dogs, a now-castrated Welsh rugby fan (who, obviously, lost a bet), and a little tease of a Taiwanese transvestite story from the final hour of the show.

D&D - WKRK - Nov 9, 2005

BREAKING NEWS! Kwame re-elected...at least he was back in 2005. Other local news covered during this show included a bit on the now-gubernatorial candidate Mike Cox / Geoffrey Fieger "affair" (yes, Virginia, that was a double-entendre), another chat with Joe Santos, the drunk Asian at WKRK about the closing of his dad's karaoke bar, and a contest to find a Kwame voter who wanted to win a Playstation 2. Other topics included another "Ask the Beaver," another LOST theory, a LONG debate about some weirdo who apparently tried to scam Home Depot by gluing his ass to a toilet seat, a story about a fire-eater who set a stripper's boob on fire, as well as call-in segments about in-studio strippers, planning vacations to troubled areas, using public bathrooms, and weird suicide stories.

D&D - WKRK - Nov 8, 2005

I'm really jonesing for some new D&D -- hopefully the guys get a gig soon, because other shows (TV and radio) are stealing their ideas. First Jay Leno had an on-air wedding performed by actor Jason Segal, then yesterday morning 89x's morning show had a long call-in segment about Swamp Ass and Anti-Monkey Butt Powder. The first hour of this show was pretty choppy, but it had part of a call-in segment about Doyle sleeping on a submarine with his kids, another about upside-down Christmas trees, and an Election Day report from Detroit. Beaver later went downtown to conduct some exit polls -- EPIC FAIL! Other call-in segments included Rudy trying to remember where he was supposed to go for Carrer Day and a possible anti-smoking-in-your-car bill in Michigan. There were also discussions about US Senators' stock market income, Delphi, a nasty British Heart Foundation ad, and a song by DeathPool Dave ("Thug Mayor").

D&D - WKRK - Nov 1 & 2, 2005

Double-post today since the Nov 1 show was a "Best Of" show mostly filled with segments we've hosted on here before (other than the Gamer Trough unveiling). Jeff was out sick on the 2nd, but the rest of the crew went on live. Highlights included some Halloween news, a balut reference, annoying songs, a chat with Joe Santos, the drunken Asian guy at WKRK, and call-in segments about dumb accidents, sports allegiances, Christmas Music in November, and eating nasty food (see: balut).

D&D - WKRK - Oct 20, 2005

In chronological order, this show had call-in discussions about recycling, fantasy band reunions (haha Stone Temple Pilots!), an iPod Nano giveaway game (Name-Song-From-Doyle's-iPod), some baseball and LOST updates, another call-in segment about the end of the world & the rapture index, a Halloween vs. church controversy, a chat with the soon-to-be bride who wants to be married by Rudy live on the D&D Show, and a little bit about that dumbass Brent Bozell and his attacks on Family Guy.

D&D - WKRK - Oct 19, 2005

Happy 6th of July, y'all! Whole bunch of randomness in this show. Deminski's dog is trying to learn how to pee in the bathroom by watching Jeff, the inaugural edition of "Ask the Beaver," Nicole Salem's off-hand "boobiegate" controversy, and Rudy tested out his decibel meter. Other topics included the Roush Racing "Driver X" reality show, a chicken-choking Australian toy, fatties on planes, old drivers, Hurricane Wilma, Saddam's trial, and assorted celebrity news, as well as call-in segments about sex vs. food, Variety Magazine's top 100 icons, Kinsey sex questions, and a debate about where to get the best pizza in Detroit.

D&D - WKRK - Oct 14, 2005

Hole shitload of topics in this show; the majority came during the first hour of the show when Jeff and Bill did some "spring cleaning" and shot through a ton of small little time wasting topics that were passed over during previous shows. It was like Big Block of Cheese Day at WKRK. Some of these mini-mentions included Rocky VI, hospitals mixing up babies, and a breast implant with a built-in MP3 player. Other topics covered included the Arabizing of The Simpsons, conspiracy theories, the weekly Steve Mariucci chat, a nipple hair world record, and a cameo by Michelle McCormick who chatted about the upcoming MindCandy CD release party. Call-in segments included random acts of rudeness, driving 1200 miles for a cat (Nicole Salem chimed in), and a debate about who brought more shame to Michigan than Kwame.

D&D - WKRK - Oct 13, 2005

The MindCandy press conference we linked to yesterday was actually from this show, during the 5 o'clock hour. Very music-based show today; Deminski got to shred pluck suck on acoustic guitar, listeners chimed in on (Robert) Steve Miller's douchbaggery at Delphi, Amy Grant took part in a surprise wedding for a returning veteran, and Beaver (eventually) got to show off his saxophone skills -- though it came during the "missing" fourth hour of the show. Other topics covered included 4,000-year-old Chinese pasta, a LOST update, a WKRK "runaway groom" story, as well as call-in topics about B-List celebrities, Kwame and his earring, and the homeless in Detroit.

D&D - WKRK - Oct 12, 2005

We're unfortunately missing the final hour of most of these 2005-06 shows, which sucks even more when they're a Friday show. This wasn't, but there were teases for the "Ask Beaver" segment from the missing 6pm hour. From the audio we do have, topic covered included Doyle's toad infestation, a MindCandy "press conference" (isolated here), graffiti at the WKRK studios, a humorous pre-city council Charles Pugh quote, an a Minnesota Vikins yacht orgy story, as well as call-in segments about a D&D drinking game, Freeman Hendrix's son's legal troubles, doing stupid stuff while driving, and Deminski's hearing troubles.

The D&D Shaft Theme is still not going over too well. It must not have lasted much longer; as I said before, I don't even remember it. Other meta-topics from this show included Jeff and Bill's Haloween costume near-disaster, listener nominations for What's That Smell, more Freak Talent Show suggestions, a WEIRD-ass LOST theory, as well as call-in segments about "going postal," getting beat up by cops, and weird breakup experiences.

D&D - WKRK - Oct 10, 2005

We only have about half of this show, one of the first ones after Gregg Henson got canned. I wasn't the biggest fan of Henson, but I was never in favor of the eggshells that radio personalities have to walk on. There was a bunch of celebrity news during these two hours (Jon Stewart, White Stripes, Ashlee Simpson, & Vince Vaughn), as well as some LOST-esque character-centric segments (Doyle on fantasy football, Jeff's schpiel about his asshole brother, Rudy's laziness, as well as a chat with SuperSize Scott about his drunk voicemail and his future radio career). Other topics covered included the introduction of clowns into prisons, prisoners using poop as fuel, and a call-in segment about the etiquette involved in asking your sexual partner about their STD tests.

P.S. Best wishes to Jeff and his family, hope everything works out for the best. If you're reading this, your family is much more important than your job, so we'll all be understanding if the newest incarnation of D&D is put on hold for a while.

I lied, still got an update in today. :) Beaver started this show with a recap of his (FAIL-free) first pitch at the previous day's Tigers' game and the sports format foreshadowing continued with a discussion on the upcoming Michigan vs. MSU football game. Other topics covered included Doyle's planned Gamer Trough photo shoot for that evening, a few crime stories, a bit about Bill's musical OCD and Jeff's synethesia, as well as call-in topics on weird familiar relationships, flight attendant horror stories, embarrassing ringtones, LOST theories, and the disappearance of the "favorite TV show."

D&D - WKRK - Sept 28, 2005

Watched World Cup (USA! USA!) & Wimbledon (GO ISNER!) yesterday, so we fell a bit behind and may not have a D&D update tomorrow.

Beaver will get to (got to?) throw out the first pitch at a Tigers game (more on that during the next update, tomorrow or Monday), Rudy inquired about some deleted scenes from The Godfather, Deminski wore a "Vote For Pedro" shirt to Busch's Market, and Doyle discounted Jeff's LOST theory (no, Desmond did not turn out to be God). Other topics covered included "People En Espanol's" sexist people, the "Snooperbowl," a Scott Peterson update, clips from My Name is Earl and The Office, Donald Trump's new baby, as well as call-in segments about the do not call list, what we would / wouldn't do for a billion dollars, and embarrassing things cities and states do to guys accused of solicitation. Author Neil Strauss (pickup line book "The Game") was also interviewed.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 27, 2005

Here is the new (circa late September 2005) D&D "Shaft" theme song -- warning: it did not go over well (judging from the e-mails and calls that opened the show). I honestly don't even remember it -- but I do vaguely recall something about a Friday-only open...

There were a ton of things covered in the three hours of this show that we have, including call-in segments on the importance of music vs lyrics in songs, the Japanese idea of removing the "new car" smell from new cars, insulting nicknames for your significant other, and foreign call center complaints. Discussions were also had on pitbull abuse, Hurricane Katrina, a racial threat made towards Derek Jeter, Freeman Hendrix's upset (or not) of Kwame, as well as a LOST update.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 26, 2005

We had another round of the DBR Show, as Doyle was out sick. At least he wasn't dead -- that was Don Adams. But not Bill Cosby, he was just accused of sexual assault. Yes, Bill Cosby, not Donny Bonaduce; he was just a dick on his reality show. In other news, Deminski's taser drop was released as a ringtone, University of Michigan grads are more annoying better than MSU grads, the Tigers sucked in 2005, and Jeff's mom thought she won $10,000 in a newspaper lottery. Call-in segments included discussions on "Post-Assembly Trauma" and how long to wait before sex. Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca also joined D&D to chat about the new proposed "justifiable homicide" law in Michigan. Sounds like foreshadowing to the Joe Horn case if you ask me.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 23, 2005

Wish we had audio for the entire four hours of this show -- it's been a while since I've got to hear a Friday Game. Topics that are in the audio clips below include another debate about rebuilding post-Katrina New Orleans, Doyle's weekly taped Steve Mariucci interview, a live Vince Vaughn interview, a Rudy pop culture quiz, some Apprentice news, and a flashback about a time Doyle flubbed a Tiger's commercial. There were also call-in segments about Jack Deminski's "flat head syndrome," what is and what isn't "snooty," and usage of the "n-word" on Everybody Hates Chris.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 22, 2005

D&D were both back from vacation with a number of good topics to work with. We went from a report of a 100-mile long traffic jam in Texas due to Hurricane Rita, to a couple of depressing stories about crimes against kids, to a couple television updates (Martha Stewart's new Apprentice show and a small LOST update [a longer one was during the 5 o'clock hour that we don't have audio for]), to two vice stories (a strip club reopening in New Orleans and a study on drink spiking), to an update on the "rotting bodies at the funeral home" story, to a debate about John Mellencamp's admission to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. There were also several call-in segments, including listeners' McDonald's employment histories, airplane horror stories, germophobia, a Romanian guy who "fractured" his junk, and mandatory paternity tests.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 16, 2005 (Best Of)

This was an absolutely EPIC "Best Of" show recapping a couple of the best segments from the first half of 2005. Both were previously featured on here, but only partially. Hour 1 below is the D&D Trivia Contest with Shane & Pat the Weirdo and the post-contest tranny waxing with Penny the Transexual. Hours 2 + 3 are the Fat Bachelor dating game from June, 2005, as well as the audio from a day later and a month later after the Fat Bastard shafted both the girl he picked and Deminski, who chipped in $150 for the "date." The end of the show was a recap of the Gamer Trough testing and a call-in segment about fetishes.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 15, 2005 (Best Of)

We cut out about half of this show -- you can hear the previously heard segments on Deminski's wine-tasting party, Rudy's meeting with the record company guy, married women accepting drinks at a bar, and Jeff's horny Aunt Marty and her stalker upstairs neighbor by downloading the files from the original air dates (see previous blog posts) that have better audio quality. Previously unheard (at least to readers of this blog) segments from today's featured "Best Of" show included a Newsweek article about young folk suffering from hearing loss, the end of an on-air proposal (the beginning didn't get recorded unfortunately), as well as call-in segments about a "Go Away Celebrity" list, drive-in theaters, and advertisements on professional athletes' jerseys.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 14, 2005 (Best Of)

These "Best Of" shows really housed some classic segments. We got to listen to D&D learn professional bra fitting techniques, have a debate on how to hand back change, and hear listeners chime in on topics such as kids' nicknames ("Yoda" vs. "Pooper" for Jeff's son), tall women, the best comedies ever, which celebrities they would want to fight, and the truth behind movie start times. Rudy also took an HR psychoanalyzation quiz.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 13, 2005 (Best Of)

Today's "Best Of" show was entirely comprised of segments we hadn't heard before -- at least not on this blog. I distinctly remember listening to Jeff talk about tasting breastmilk when back in '05 and nearly wetting myself. Other "all-star" call-in segments reaired during this show included a discussion on "profound & deep" lines from songs, a debate about the "Greatest Americans" show on the Discovery Channel, tip cups (at fast-food places, etc), and a couple Rudy debates about whether his girlfriend moved in or not and how he should trim his nose hairs (and other signs of aging).

D&D - WKRK - Sept 12, 2005 (Best Of)

Okay, totally F'd up the post yesterday -- it was, as the filenames and the recaps noted, Sept 8, 2005, not Sept 12. Today's audio is from the 12th. The audio we have from this Best Of week is pretty bad quality, so what we did is pull out the segments that we'd previously hosted (the What's Normal game from Aug 16, as well as discussions about self-given nicknames, weird familial relationships, and the interview with the Transhumanism guy). The clip blow consists of a few repeated segments that we don't have the original audio for -- Doyle's opinion of a Toyota commercial being shot in his subdivision, women who consider "love handles" sexy, an accidental canine euthanasian, and a video game giveaway contest featuring (mostly crappy) listener-submitted mindbenders.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 8, 2005

It begins here! The earliest record of Doyle's fascination with LOST -- shortly before the second season began, he and Beaver did a small recap of Season 1 and gave away a DVD set. As Beaver warned him prophetically, "You're getting sucked in!" Bill was also able to get ahold of the Fractured Fairytales DVD he mentioned yesterday, which spawned a discussion with listeners about classic cartoons. There were also call-in segments regarding motorcycle safety, the world's worst TV commercials, historical-sounding names for kids, and diseases that may spring up from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Jeff was still on vacation, but he played the part of the "on-site correspondent" at the beginning of the show and talked about how the adverse weather was screwing up his plans. Other topics included the Pussycat Dolls, "wrong number voicemail etiquette," and a fake tiger meat sale in China.

D&D - WKRK - Sept 7, 2005

This is the second Rock-Paper-Scissors "Team Smoot" sighting (hearing?) we've had while archiving old D&D shows, though this one came first chronologically. If I remember right, the "professional" player lost to D&D in 2007 as well. D&D DB&R also chatted with Russell Dynda, a heterosexual author. The other "interview" was during the show's open, as new WKRK employee Joe Santos told an embarrassing story about (what else) sex. Other topics covered ranged from Rudy's Fantasy FAILball leagues to a Southern Accent quiz, as well as call-in segments about the appropriate age for cell phone (Doyle's kids have walkie-talkies, ha ha) and "buddy movies."

D&D - WKRK - Sept 6, 2005

This is the first of three "DB 'n' R" Shows (Doyle, Beaver, & Rudy) while Jeff is on vacation and then we have four "Best Of" shows from the following week. It was always a different monster when one of the "dynamic duo" was out at WKRK -- it seemed (to me, at least) that Doyle and Beaver seemed to handle heavier topics, but when Bill was out, Jeff took the lead and would more comedic segments. Topics from this show included the (not) BREAKING news of Bob (not John) Denver's death, a voicemail from friend-of-the-show Animosity, a Dear Abby letter from a cutter, "food bombs," and a bit on Doyle's vole problem, as well as call-in segments about taking cell phones and computers on vacation, the early onset of mid-life crises (check out the awesome housing market crash foreshadowing by Doyle & Beaver), a "bucket list" discussion that predated the movie, and listener suggestions about what to do with post-Katrina New Orleans. There was also a Fraggle Rock DVD giveaway.

D&D - WKRK - Aug 26, 2005

Sorry this is up late, Blogger was down most of the day. Follow us on Twitter to stay updated next time! :)

We only have audio from a few segments of this show, unfortunately, and none from the last three days of August. But there's (almost) the entire month of September, 2005 coming up next! Today's featured show included segments on a shallow-water shark attack, a bit on Hurricane Katrina (more on that tomorrow), Deminski's asshole brother, and "black boxes" for automobiles, as well as call-in segments about buying cars on eBay, classic rock concerts, and eating and drinking contests (that unfortunately happened during a show from the following week that we don't have).

D&D - WKRK - Aug 24, 2005

I didn't listen to "Live 97.1" for too many years during its hayday (Howard-MCM-D&D-P&tM) and I didn't really know the history of the relationship between shows, so I can't tell if the Motor City Middays slam that started this show was all in fun or not. I do know there was a bit of animosity between Gregg Henson and D&D recently. Topics covered during this late-summer show included a Deminski rant against his health insurance company, a little prick for Beaver (get your mind outta the gutter!), tensions at Ozzfest, a SPIN magazine list of "best rock star body parts," a Daily Show clip about Pat Robertson (trivia: apparently D&D interviewed a pre-Daily Show Jon Stewart back when they were on NJ 101.5), an update on Rudy's girlfriend, and chat with Jay the Cable Guy on his upcoming American Idol audition (they also played a funny Afroman parody song Jay and Beaver recorded back in the day for Jeff's brother). Call-in segments ranged from doing drugs with your parents to male waxing -- which included the BEST CALLER EVER!

D&D - WKRK - Aug 23, 2005

There was a very cool post-40 Year Old Virgin interview with Steve Carrell during this show after the first segment about the show's six-year anniversary. Not as many call-in segments as compared to yesterday's show; listeners chimed in on Doyle's stray cat problem, the National Geographic Channel's 9/11 documentary, and vehicular pet peeves. Other topics covered included a run down of some of Jeff's 25 past jobs (guess that number is 26 now, eh?), terrorism, a court case that held a gas station liable for a drunk driving death (really??), as well as clips of a couple new MindCandy songs.

Beaver's temper, Bill Doyle's obsessive-compulsive receipt-logging disorder, and Jeff's Breath-Right Strips addiction were all featured in the show. Don't worry, Rudy was there; more on him tomorrow. Other topics covered included a chat with PD Craig Schwab on his recent traffic accident, a clip from Hogan Knows Best, a bit of pre-movie Borat news, as well as call-in segments about "bros before hoes," Googling prospective dates, and the Northwest Airlines mechanics strike (including a non-solicited call by Bob Rose, the union president).

D&D - WKRK - Aug 17, 2005

As was standard with their WKRK days, D&D had a ton of call-in segments during this show, such as debates about the Dream Cruise, pitbulls, "taking a break" during a relationship, speeding, inbred families (not really), high gas prices, and choosing your own nickname. Other topics covered including the BTK Killer, Lions on-air musical cues, Tommy Lee's stupid new reality show, illegal immigrants who drowned (very topical), a robbery in Eastpointe, and Barry Manilow's new jewelry line.

D&D - WKRK - Aug 16, 2005

Awesome quotes from a Lions promo during this show:

Dan Miller & Jim Brandstatter: "Matt Millen is a guy that when he goes to do a job, will finish that job. And the job he has now is to take the Detroit Lions to the Superbowl...this guy is not a quitter. And the job he has is about winning football games for the Detroit Lions organization."

Topics covered during this partial show included streakers at a recent Tigers' game, a truncated interview with Hana Lee, a choppy (audio- and content-wise) interview with a "Transhumanism" guy, and an update to Beaver's dog-training technique. There were also call-in segments about OCD, crazy parties attended in our youth (inspired by Dieter Zetsche's wife), the NWA strike, and a long episode of "What's Normal?"

First off...really? No one told me that yesterday's links for the 8/11/05 show were bad? C'mon people, you gotta let me know these things. :) They're all updated now, see the previous post for the correct links.

As for this show, it started out with a Jessica Hall (from the midday show) road-rage / driving quiz and contained call-in segments about alcohol tolerance, famous dead people (the "Funny / Sexy / Rocker" game), human cloning, gas prices, and Jeff's asshole brother. There were also discussions about Deminski's wine-tasting party, Amber Fry, the Paula Abdul / American Idol sex scandal, and Beaver's dog.

D&D - WKRK - Aug 11, 2005

Vacation went a couple days longer than expected, but we're back now, picking up where we left off in August, 2005. This show featured call-in segments on bad movie sequels, paternitiy doubts, gay things to do (e.g. wine tasting), as well as other topics such as Jeff's dog's STD, a fake Oompa Loopa, some Dr. Phil drops, and an interview with poker star Chris Moneymaker. The SMASH FOR CASH event benefiting the Penrickton Center for Blind Children took up the entire 5pm hour.

P.S. As someone said in the Yahoo group, this would be an awesome time to have a D&D show what with Kwame going to jail, Yzerman leaving Detroit, the owner of the face-mangling chimp from last year dying, and the series finales of 24 and LOST.

D&D - May 13, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

D&D started this show (their first live broadcast in over a month) with a very partisan opinion on a very controversial topic, the Arizona immigration law. I'm not sure if they're trying to fit in with the rest of the right-wing talent on WPHT, but this was one of the rare times Jeff and Bill both shared an unpopular opinion on a hot-button issue. Like Eric Holder, most Americans haven't read this law -- the questionable poll results on this law reflect more the average American's recession-based anti-immigrant attitudes (cue South Park - "They tuk yur jooob!").

Anyway, off the soapbox -- other topics covered included the proposed national "potty parity" bill (co-sponsored, incidentally, by Republican Congressman Darrell Issa), the Philly cop who shot himself -- and said "a black man did it" (yet again) -- weird kids' names (Wentworth, anyone?), the ACLU protecting those who dare cuss at cops, and a sick Philly fuck who killed a kid with Drano. A local Philly story the guys should have touched on is the 25th anniversary of the MOVE bombing -- watch a short video on it here.

As far as the show itself goes -- it seemed like there were less commercials than the last few times they were on WPHT. They also had their first contest -- they gave away some tickets to a Charlie Manuel event. It seemed (at least during the immigration debate) that they were pandering to the audience a bit. If that's the case, as comic Bill Hicks once put it, "Have some self respect -- stay home and jerk off, man." Heh...just breaking balls. They did a good job, but keep in mind, there are zero well-known syndicated political radio shows featuring two hosts, so I really don't see that working out for them. I'm still really missing the comedy bits.

D&D - WPHT - No show May 12, 2010

As alluded to on Jeff's blog yesterday, due to last-minute weather-related schedule changes in the Phillies @ Rockies doubleheader from Denver, there was no D&D show last night on WPHT. Dom Giordano was on the air until midnight instead. Jeff ensured us that he and Bill will be on the air tonight from 10pm-midnight.

We were unfortunately counting on a WPHT show today and we don't have a 2005 show prepped to upload, so there's no new audio to post today. How about a few classic WKRK podcasts instead?

Feb 17, 2006 - SuperSize Scott recalls falling through the floor of his trailer while on the toilet
Apr 26, 2006 - Beaver goes inside a trash compactor
July 7, 2006 - "Doyle buys gay porn" (title says it all, no?)

D&D - WKRK - Aug 10, 2005

We've got another half-show today and full show of NEW D&D tomorrow -- nothing permanent, they're just doing two more fill-in days for 1210AM WPHT in Philadelphia. Tomorrow and Friday we'll have the WPHT shows on here. I'm going on vacation next week, so we'll resume August, 2005 the Monday after next. Today's featured show included a change for Rudy to release some aggression, Mark Grace's profanity apology, and an interview with the authors of "Why Do Men Have Nipples?" There were also call-in segments about the emasculation caused by minivan ownership, anti-Walmart sentiment, windshield replacement scams, and a chemical explosion in Romulus.

D&D - WKRK - Aug 9, 2005

Surviving segments from this chopped-up half-show include the second half of an interview with Lewis Black (and the source of the "that is kinda gay" drop), Doyle's concern for his son's vocal bluntness, and an aborted game of Kick Rudy in the Nuts. There were also call-in segments about "gay" songs (and Jeff's gay diary revelation), the scientific name for Beaver's temper, and thoughts on whether to allow your kids to drink.
