D&D - Jan 30, 2009

Outspoken (ask the Secret Service), draft dodging, wanna-be drug czar "Uncle" Ted Nugent called into the show bright and early this morning; after talking about his involvement with the D&D Camp Out For Kids event, he rambled on for 15 minutes about bloody arrows and deer skulls (H1). I wonder what this NRA poster-boy would have said about the PETA "Veggie Love" Superbowl commercial banned by NBC (H3)? I understand D&D work for a classic rock station now, but both of them voted for Obama. Where was the bluntness Deminski showed Tonya Harding last week? Speaking of Barack Obama, the President recently made his Superbowl pick (H2). Maybe the Cardinals snub was aimed at his formal rival? Lions fans are apparently rooting for the Cards en masse. An article mentioned on today's show was centered around a survey that found almost half of Americans want to relocate, but the revelation that almost no one surveyed said they would want to move to Detroit caused D&D to take a few pro-Detroit calls (H1). Now that Kwame is out of the picture, maybe the rest of the country will look at us like the rest of the world is looking at post-Bush America? Then again, more details came out today regarding the Thug Mayor's (and his dad's) involvement in SludgeGate (H1).

On a lighter note, comedian Dan Grueter joined D&D in the studio today, the third comic from Mark Ridley's Comic Castle to appear on the show. Other bits included an early call to Jim O'Brien to get an update on his pink eye (H1), a reading of a Bruce Springsteen parody Blackberry daily itinerary (H3), and a suprise appearance by "Ozzy Osbourne," (H3). A few newspaper articles were given D&D treatment as well, one regarding a Chicago guy who killed his brother over $2 of drug money (H3) -- "I'd buy that for two dollars" -- one about a dude who got punished by American Express for shopping at Wal-Mart (H2), and another giving a rundown of the best and worst Superbowl Halftime Shows (H3). Calls were taken on several subjects today, including the aforementioned pro-Detroit segment, arguments over what exactly qualifies as a Man Law (H3), and R-rated movie experiences as kids (H2) -- also movies you'd be embarrassed to see with your parents (H2). The final hour of the show was another Friday game, Loser. "What a loser!"

D&D - Jan 29, 2009

D&D may be on a new station, but there's a lot that didn't change in the last year. Doyle is still a LOST fanatic (another recap today - H2), Deminski still likes to piss off his wife on the air (couldn't reach her today, so he doesn't know if he forgot her eye color or not - H4), and Rudy is still gay (Pink panties? "The Devil Wears Prada?" Really? REALLY? - H1). Jason Carr did some manwhoring again, plugging a couple stories he did on FOX 2 last night, one about a recent call for Detroit-area movie extras (H2) and another regarding the now-failed attempt to delay the DTV transition (H3).

Headlines ripped from the news this morning included a too-rich-for-their-own-good couple who cloned their dog after it died (H2), an off-duty detective who beat up a Wal-Mart greeter after he demanded to check his receipt (H2), a guy who tried to act out an erotic version of the movie Phonebooth (H1), a hoboscicle story from the Detroit News (H1), Barack Obama's first George Bush moment (H1), and the death of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Billy Powell (H4). M.L. Elrick from the Free Press called in to discuss Kwame's possible move to Dallas (H2), while Chris Chelios gave his first WCSX post-JJ & Lynne interview (H3).

A couple of games were played -- another round of Play the Numbers (H1) as well as the first attempt at "Would Jim Eat It?" (H3), which spinned off into a discussion of nasty things eaten by listeners. A few calls were also taken after Doyle brought up the topic of "Shot & a Beer" movies such as the #1-in-the-country (REALLY?) Paul Blart: Mall Cop (H1). The last few topics from the final hour consisted of Paul McCartney's appearance on the Colbert Report last night, a new website to help guys predict their lady's (or ladies') upcoming PMS attacks, Bart Simpson the Scientologist, and generationally-extint devices.

D&D - Jan 28, 2009

The Superbowl Big Game is coming up, so of course there were a few sports-related stories during today's show. The standard "Top Superbowl Commercials" list came up -- here's another one (H2) -- as did a mention of weird Superbowl wagers (H1). In other football-related news, the drama continues in Kentucky, as a former NFL player-turned-high-school-coach pled Not Guilty to a reckless homicide charge after one of his players died of heatstroke (H3). Moving to hockey, Jason Carr spoke a couple times about a Michigan State hockey player who was drafted by Montreal in 2007 deciding to drop out of school after being suspended for the rest of the season for pretending to be a Hanson Brother. And finally, the D&D crew (and callers) debated on what exactly should be considered a sport (H2).

We got to hear from Nicole Salem a bit more than usual today due to the horrible winter weather we had this morning, Jim O'Brien apparently has a Big-Caucasian-Ass fetish to go also with his elder sex kick (H1), and Rudy gave his answer to yesterday's casino challenge (H3). Calls were solicited on topics such as Canadian panhandlers (apparently they're a big problem in Edmonton), Detroit beggars (I sense a pattern here), and the scams they run (H3), as well as possible new jobs for Kwame (H2) now that even more is coming out on his connection to Sludgegate (H1). Bill Doyle's fathering tips were also questioned (H1). A few video clips were played as well (a weird thing to do on the radio) -- the newest DTV Transition parody commercial (H2), Larry Wilmore from The Daily Show explaining how Black is Back (H1), and selections from the list of best movie death scenes (H4). My favorite can be found here.

Interviews were conducted with some schmuck who's trying to be a movie extra (H4), and more importantly, musician Graham Nash spoke about his career and his new box set while Doyle interrogated another castmember from LOST, Rebecca Mader (H1) -- as Craig Ferguson says, "If you haven't seen it, LOST is about a group of desperate people out of touch with the world. It's based on the true story of the Republican Party." A handful of other minor stories mentioned ranged from the UK Cello Scrotum hoax (H3) to inherited popularity (H4) to an alligator stuck in a pipe (H4) -- yes, that last one came from FARK. Oh yeah, some lady had eight babies (H3).

D&D - Jan 27, 2009

Jeff Deminski once had a gay pagan biker in his "family" (H2) as well as a run in with an elderly driver (as did a now-deceased Sterling Heights mother of three - H4), Rudy DeSantis has pictures of his ass on Facebook (H1) and dreams of being an archaeologist (H3), Nicole Salem has a MySpace fan club (H1), producer Jim O'Brien has an elder-sex fetish (H2), Frank the 50-year-old intern went to a Detroit Lions season ticket holders' town hall (H2), while Jason Carr and Bill Doyle apparently didn't have anything to contribute today. Wait, no...Doyle threw in a story about a stolen amputated foot at the last minute, just beating the buzzer (H4).

Other topics discussed included road rage cards (H2), yesterday's "Bloody Monday" job cuts (H3), an Iggy Pop insurance commercial (H3), a frozen Grampasicle in Bay City (H3), the worst Bruce Springsteen song ever (H2), the again-proposed Michigan smoking ban (H1), a Caylee Anthony doll which has since been pulled from the shelves (H3), and Kwame's part in Detroit's Sludgegate scandal.

Interviews were conducted with Kristin Davis, the Manhattan Madam (see Elliot Spitzer) -- her list of imagined celebrity hookers was interesting -- and a regular Joe from Hazel park Steve Pasden who helped catch a bank robber. The highlight of the show had to be the f-bomb dropped by a caller (judging by the guys' reactions, it was dumped in time on the air but made it onto the Internet stream) during the Battle of the Bad Asses discussion. Calls were also taken regarding unusual gender roles (think male engagement rings).

D&D - Jan 26, 2009

Today's show definitely had its share of sex and bathroom stories, ranging from the sad (the Brazilian supermodel who died from sepsis after she had to have her hands and feet chopped off - H4), to the nasty (the brief preview of tomorrow's segment about the orgy-filled Florida retirement community that's having an STD crisis - H4), the stupid (Nicole's bathroom complaints - H1), to the annoying (Andy Dick's bisexuality - H1). Calls were also taken about "MacGyver'ing" a toilet (inspired by Inauguration-goers who stocked up on Depends instead of using port-o-johns - H1) and Doyle's ethical challenge regarding whether or not you'd rat out a family member (inspired by a COP who got busted for kiddie porn after his son turned him in - H4).

Meta-topics from today included the premiere of the D&D Parallel Parking Challenge (H3), Doucheinski's summary of events from his "Night at the MMAs" and the backlash from Tonya Harding (H3), a mention of the upcoming D&D Superbowl Big Game Party (funny how they can't say "Superbowl," yet look at the URL - H4), and Rudy's casino challenge (H2).

Two guests came on the air -- B.J. Hammerstein from the Free Press wrote an article about D&D only to have his balls busted by Jeff (H2), while the hilarious Larry Wilmore of the Daily Show explained black liberal guilt (H3). Other topics discussed today included revisiting the interview with John Travolta's friend (and now-extortion-suspect) Bahamian Senator Obie Wilchcombe from the first D&D show on WCSX (H1), Miller's new 1-second Superbowl beer commericals (H1), the Detroit City Council sludge scandal (H2), a Pontiac golfer's failed attempt to sue the city after losing an eye on a golf course (H2), and some stupid white guy trying to rap (H2). The final hour of the show had a few minor stories such as a replay of the DTV parody commercial from a couple weeks ago, the faking-your-own-death Darwin Awards, a 14-year-old who faked being a cop for a day, and discussions with callers about the merits of the new Michigan Prisons' tobacco ban.

D&D - Jan 23, 2009

Another slow-paced but enjoyable Friday show was highlighted by a tension-filled in-studio interview with Tonya Harding (H2). "Why aren't you in jail?" Deminski asked early on, while he ended with, "I never believed your story anyway." Props to Jeff for proving his main point -- she never would have been a celebrity if she hadn't broken the law, and now she's simply trying to make a buck off of it with her stupid boxing / MMA stuff.

Colonel Mark Tillman, the now-former Air Force One pilot (a much cooler guest than Tonya, IMHO) was also interviewed (H1) while comedian Jimmy Dore, who will be appearing at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase this weekend, joined D&D in the studio (H2) shortly before Ms. Harding waddled in.

Mark McGuire's brother Jay wrote a book about his bro's steroid ass-injections (H1), a listener e-mailed in a list of the 20 worst cover songs in history (H1), and a couple snippets of songs from the new Bruce Springsteen CD were played (H1). Rudy gave an example of why you should balance your checkbook more than once a year while simultaneously proving the existence of karma (H2), Nicole cried over some dead rats (no, they weren't hers) in Rhode Island (H3), and they both took part in another round of Lie to Me.(H3). A fail-filled game of Beaver Practice Girl Pyramid wrapped up the show (H4) and just made Nicole's mood worse (but it will make you laugh). She must have been inspired by the Oscar nomination for Tropic Thunder (H2), because she went full retard during that game.

D&D - Jan 22, 2009

Yesterday was the day were we've all been waiting for. No, I'm not talking about Obama, though he was mentioned briefly -- see Inauguration Sex (H2), retaking the Oath of Office (H2), and Diane Sawyer's on-air Obamatoxication (H1). LOST returned to the airwaves last night with the 5th Season premiere. And of course Bill Doyle got in his obligatory LOST recap on today's show (H2). Jeff Deminski gets to have an experience comparable to watching LOST soon -- he's going to a UFC fight (H1).

Listener discussions revolved around drugged, depressed and suicidal dogs -- they prescribe Prozac to dogs now -- inspired by the story of former French President Jacques Chirac's vicious poodle attack (H1), and bodily oddities (extra thumbs, toes, nipples etc.), inspired by Lilly's Allen's extra-nipple-flash (H3). Calls were also taken on women's varying timeframes when it comes to making men wait for sex -- which somehow spawned from a story about scientists decoding a mathematical model of the mating game (H4) -- as well as the hunt for the elusive McRib sandwich (H2). A Maxim article provoked D&D into searching for McRibs at local McDonald's (didn't find any) and reading about the history of the sandwich. Another session of the Lie to Me game was played as well (H1).

After a short recap of Ask Men's Top 99 women of 2009 (H4), B.J. Hammerstien from the Free Press joined D&D in the studio for an awkward two-way interview session (H4). Dr. Paul Moller, inventor of a new flying car, was also interviewed (H3). Darwin awards should have been awarded to two other guys mentioned by D&D -- a dude who climbed out onto the wing (H3) of his airplane after landing in Phoenix and someone who works at the FAA who seems to be trying to cover up the fact that Flight 1549 should have never been allowed to take off (H3).

Also, keep an eye on WCSX.com -- a "D&D Camp Out For Kids" event was mentioned on the show (H4), but there doesn't appear to be a website set up for it yet.

D&D - Jan 21, 2009

The first D&D show of the President Obama era contained, of course, quite a bit of "Inauguration Recap." Roy Gross from Taylor was interviewed again, and clips from yesterday's TV coverage were played including a final goodbye to Bush, Chief Justice Roberts' Yoda's major Oath of Office fumble, a bit of poetry from civil-rights leader Joseph Lowry, thoughts from Jon Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel, a bit of "My Count--ry 'Tis of Thee" from Aretha Franklin, and an updated view of Dubya from Kayne West. Senator Ted Kennedy's hospital visit was also mentioned.

Non-inauguration topics today ranged from home DNA tests, Michael Vick and dog fighting, Jason's Carr's fantasy golf league, a Monster Jam story, breaking news about WDFN's firing of local on-air talent, Man Law regarding dating a friend's ex-, and a local 8-year-old boy who lived for day's with his mother's dead body. A couple of games were played (Lie to Me again and a new Michigan Lottery game, Play the Numbers -- total train wreck when the phones overloaded) and calls were also taken on subjects ranging from working with slobs, being left-handed, and whether or not women would rather be mistakenly viewed as being pregnant or a prostitute. Jorge Garcia ("Hurley" or "Hugo" from LOST) was interviewed interrogated by D&D Doyle. Bill got him to crack and leak out what finally happens at the end of the series (SPOILER ALERT!!!).

D&D - Jan 20, 2009

The D&D show from today will be up later tonight, as we're all watching the Inauguration. Watch for yourself live online:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/
http://www.cnn.com/
http://www.pic2009.org/

Highlights from D&D today included a ton of discussion regarding today's mega-event in DC, including clips from Jon Stewart, MLK, and Forest Whitaker, as well as an Inauguration Drinking Game, various Obama songs, and interviews with Roy Gross (local guy from Taylor who joined Obama on his train ride to DC), and Congressman Gary Peters (D-MI, MI-09). Non-Inauguration interviews were conducted with L. Jon Wertheim, author of the UFC "Blood in the Cage" book and WDIV's Rod Meloni regarding the partial sale of Chrysler to Fiat.

UPDATE: Here is today's show, sorry about the delay. Still watching parade coverage. But I'm a multitasker, I can blog and watch TV at the same--*crash*--time. :) Along with the aforementioned segments, Jeff and Bill talked about the new U2 single, "Get on Your Boots," an AOL Health men's sex survey, dumb Google searches that will end up getting you arrested, Jeff's taking-the-leaf-removal-guy-to-court horror story, Julia Roberts' hatred towards paparazzi, and Kristen Wiig's Judy Grimes character on SNL. Rudy also chipped in a top-ten list of movies where the bad guy wins (spoiler alert!), as well as a MEAP story for his half of the Lie to Me game.

There was, as previously mentioned, a ton of coverage of the Inauguration, including whether or not Obama being the first black president is really that important, what kind of security was needed when two million people invaded the nation's capital, how Obama's body compares to the average 47-year old American male, and the temporary "no-prostitution zones" now in effect in DC.

D&D - Jan 19, 2009

Week 3 of D&D on W.C. (SX) began with anecdotes by Doyle, Rudy, and Jim O'Brein -- Rudy's cheap Japanese car completely died on him, Doyle's "amateur" photography hobby bristled the feathers of another photographer at a recent peewee hockey tournament, and Jim may be off the rest of the week explaining to Child Protective Services why he beat his son up and chipped his tooth. Jeff joined in during the 7:00 hour with a sequel to this summer's famous bicyclist story from his D&D blog.

A rare Monday Game sponsored by the new Fox show Lie To Me featured WCSX is giving away Amazon.com giftcards. Also mentioned were the new witness list in the Tamera Green v. City of Detroit lawsuit, a "Dear-Abby"-esque column regarding a dude sleeping with his stepmother, a mention of Obama's invitation to pilot Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III to come to his inauguration, and a ruling in Flint forcing a new dad to either marry his baby-mama or pay for her delivery.

Local girl Megan Tomczak from VH1's Rock of Love came into the studio and interviews were conducted via telephone with Detroit Mayor Ken Cockral (never mind), some guy who wanted to complain about his paper delivery guy peeing on his mailbox (who doesn't?), and WCSX's Ken Calvert (no, not the Yet-Another-Republican-Sex-Scandal Ken Calvert).

Audio clips from the weekend's news stories were also played, including some loser from the World Superhero Registry being interviewed by more losers on Faux News, football players thanking Jesus for letting them win a game, Obama's "We Are One" Inauguration concert (as well as betting odds on words appearing in his Inaugural speech), an a clip of comic Vargas Mason in honor of MLK Day. An excerpt was also read (a Joe Rogan quote) from the new book about UFC, "Blood in the Cage."

July 2005 podcasts

As promised, here's the first batch of the old D&D recordings I recently received (thank you "Fellow Fan") from July 2005 - March 2006 on 97.1 WKRK. These were recorded by a listener while at work; quality and completeness are not guaranteed. It seems like most shows are missing at least the final hour since the "recorder" had to leave work at 6pm (if you recall the show used to be from 3pm-7pm). Commercials are included and the quality on some of the recordings are better than others; there are some skips and volume issues that were on the original audio. With the new show taking up so much time, we didn't have a chance to clean any of these recordings up. The only modification we did to the original audio was to reduce the MP3 bitrate to make the filesize a little more manageable.

Here are the shows we have from July 2005; more to come soon.

D&D - Jan 16, 2009

Today's show was a pretty relaxing, slow-paced Friday show. There were only a few topics, but a lot of time was spent on each and a plethora of phone calls were taken. The Friday Game, Tri-Bold, closed out the week after segments about yesterday's amazing U.S. Airways' "Miracle on the Hudson River;" last night's farewell address by the worst president in modern history (as well as Esquire's recap of the last eight years); how to keep yourself warm (safely) in subzero temperatures; and a "Nicole Licks the Pole" stunt (pictures here). Despite what Rudy's bio says, Nicole Salem seems to have taken over Beaver's job as the show's bitch. Curtis Granderson from the Detroit Tigers and comedian Scott Henry (at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle this weekend) joined D&D in the studio, while sports writer Mike O'Hara dialed in to give his opinion of new Lions' coach Jim Schwartz. President-Elect Obama was also "interviewed" by Jeff Deminski.

D&D - Jan 15, 2009

New Florida motto suggestion from G4TV: "If monkey sh*t hits you in the face, you're home." Yes, Doyle snuck in a story at the end of the show about an escaped feces-throwing monkey. He also made an unintentional booty call to Rudy. Other news topics discussed included the revelation of new, possibly damning Kwame text messages, car thieves targeting vehicles being warmed up in the morning, the Stooges failing to make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (again), Frank-the-50-Year-Old-Intern's daughters' boob jobs (one per daughter), the Top 10 Underappreciated Serial Killers (a Rudy DeSantis production), faking suicide, bank errors, Ricardo Montalban, and Dearborn Schools' new proposed anti-Arabic policy. Interviewed were WDIV's Rod Meloni (regarding Chrysler sale rumors) and Debbie Nelson (Eminem's mom).

D&D - Jan 14, 2009

Hump Day Show #2 at WCSX for Jeff & Bill. The guys now owe Nicole $60 for standing outside in the single-degree weather in her skivvies -- and almost getting arrested while doing it! A little Jimmy Kimmel-esque "unnecessary censorship" made Al Allen from FOX 2 into a foul-mouthed shock jock. Also featured were discussions about Sen. Bob Corker's arrival at the Auto Show, flying cars, American Idol auditions, sleepwalking, Jon Stewart, a DTV video parody, and a hidden camera Primetime special on ABC. Interviews were conducted with Mark Blake, the author of a new Pink Floyd book, "Comfortably Numb," as well as with Terry O'Quinn, who plays John Locke on Lost, and Mark Ridley from Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle.

D&D - Jan 13, 2009

Today's show provoked a wide range of emotions -- well-hidden mild annoyance from Doyle towards Deminski about his busted computer; Jeff's embarrassing family issue; shock at Nicole Salem (who, unlike Charles Manson, steals her grandma's handicapped parking tag), the new Stephen Grant book, "A Slaying in the Suburbs" by Andrea Billups and Steve Miller, and W. Bush's last-ever press conference; and the normal humor of the day regarding snowmobiles on the road, virginity stories, fantasy halftimes shows and mixtapes, another preview of the WCSX Parallel Parking Challenge, and rearview mirror hangie-thingies. Also featured were interviews with Kevin James from King of Queens and "Mrs. B[igot]" from NBC's Momma's Boys.

D&D - Jan 12, 2009

Here's the first D&D Show of Week #2 at WCSX -- be sure to catch the video the guys made recapping their first week at the new station. The show today featured just one interview, a long one taped last Friday with Stooges front man Iggy Pop regarding the death of his friend and bandmate Ron Asheton (Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull was slated to make an appearance, but that must have fell through).

The "first week of school" is over and Jeff and Bill are back to doing what they do best -- talking with callers, ripping on Rudy and Beaver Nicole, adding their own twist to current events, and giving us all a little humor to start the day. Mentioned on today's show were dry sockets, beater cars, the Brozillian, the push to completely ban cell phone usage while driving, movies filmed in (or around) Detroit, the 2009 Auto Show / UAW protesting, pet grief counseling, the Golden Globes, and a preview of what should be an entertaining bit for later this week when Rudy and/or Nicole try to parallel park blindfolded.

The last part contains the show from 8am-10am, sans the 2-3 songs played as usual, but also removed was the repeat of the Iggy Pop interview from the 9 o'clock hour. Again, please patronize the D&D advertisers -- without them, there'd be no show. Commercial breaks are longer in this podcast, as many of the Internet-only "infomercials" were replaced with actual commercials. Here is another short list of D&D sponsors that have yet to be mentioned on here:

Roy O'Brien Ford (St. Clair Shores)
Rising Sun Yoga (Southgate)
ABC Warehouse
National Crime Prevention Council
Ready.gov
Change.gov (not really a sponsor, just doing a little manwhoring :)
Comcast
AT&T

P.S. I didn't forget about linking to those 2005/2006 shows I mentioned last week, there's just been an unexpected delay in converting them to a proper file format and filesize.

Also, does anyone out there want to be involved in this blog? I'd love to get some more audio sources; it's always good to have backup sources. My main source didn't catch the first hour of the show today, but thanks goes out to a backup source who did. Also big props go out to "Fellow D&D Fan" who supplied me with some old (2005-2006) D&D recordings. I'm hoping to have links to those up on the blog soon.

Also, I got a note last night regarding the D&D advertisements. It looks like the "infomercials" aired between segments are exclusive to the online stream and take the place of most of the local advertisements heard on WCSX. Here is a small list of additional companies that sponsor D&D but don't have their ads played on the online stream:

Also, I was informed that the FOX2 broadcast from yesterday morning (which was played today on D&D during the 7am hour) was repeated during the 5pm news, but only a small clip. Still looking to obtain a copy of that. Still haven't been able to track down the first hour of yesterday's show. I was told that D&D often repeat shows (or clips of shows) during vacation, so

all else fails, we'll be looking out for that. Again, as always, if anyone else has any links, sources, or other D&D info, feel free to share.

Update: Forgot to add some additional info from our new source -- "Please support D&D sponsors. There may not be many now, and many of them may seem like annoying infomercials (ironic considering the Billy Mays interview), but hopefully there will be more local sponsors soon. Many commercials were left in the podcast, including commercials for the following local and/or reliable sponsors:

Direct Optical
National Benefit Plans (Mike Purpura)
WebEx (promo code: Cicso - free webcam)
Rosetta Stone
Glendale Auto Supply (Southfield)
Turbo Tax
Stautzenberger Health & Wellness Institute of Livonia"

Deminski & Doyle back on the air!

Great to hear D&D back on the airwaves again this morning. I'll be scouring my sources today to see what I can find when it comes to podcasts, so keep an eye out. If anyone has any links to post, feel free -- anonymous comments are enabled. :) Commercial breaks included or cut out, it doesn't matter, I'll post whatever I can find -- though it shouldn't be that big of a deal for those who want to listen to D&D later in the day to have to deal with commercials. We do need to support the D&D advertisers. Also, they show was featured on FOX 2 this morning at 7:30am, so I'll try to track that down as well.
