D&D - Mar 30, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

Last night's show was an interesting one. As was the case last time, it was just Jeff and Bill in the studio with a ton of callers on a wide range of mostly-political topics (and a couple that were "ripped from the headlines"). The health care reform bill law was another point of contention for the guys and the (mostly) right-leaning callers. Other than the general (false) consensus that no one likes the bill, Jeff also dissed the new requirement that restaurants have to include nutritional information on their menus (though Doyle was in favor of it). Other political topics during the first hour included a quick history lesson on political insults and a "Deminski rant" against the two-party system -- hey Jeff, don't be too quick to shoot down that one caller's pro-parliamentary system if you want to increase the number of political parties!

The second hour was more focused on "current events" topics -- the guys revisited a topic from the show preceding theirs, the arrest of nine teenagers in an upper-class Massachusetts town after an Irish girl committed suicide due to bullying. Sue Finklestien (of the I'll-whore-myself-out-for-World-Series-tickets fame) was interviewed, and a weird-ass pro-rape Japanese video game was mentioned. If only Rudy was on their air during that segment...

Anyway...it was interesting to note how many callers said, "I like your show," or, "I enjoy listening when you guys are on" -- even though one Trenton caller was a fan from the NJ 101.5 days, they've only been on in Philly three times and they've already got regular listeners! I wonder how much promotion they've gotten on the station. Jeff set the tone at the very beginning of the show; yes, this is a station with three huge über-conservative syndicated hosts, but the D&D Show (as a political show) is hardly an ideological or strictly partisan one. Much like the two local Philadelphia hosts (a right-leaning former teacher and a former Republican who endorsed Obama in 2008), Jeff and Bill might provide some balance against the brainwashing of the syndicated hosts in the Philadelphia market. My favorite quote of the night? Doyle saying, "[It's] 10:53, Tuesday night in D...Philadelphia..." :)

P.S. Hey look, the guys have a picture...thought it looks an awful lot like this one...

D&D - WXYT - Dec 7, 2007

Final live D&D show from 97.1. :( A day that will live in infamy. Hard to believe Jeff and Bill are working with CBS Radio again (even if only on a temp basis) after those asshats pulled them off their air a week early. Highlights from this show included a multi-segment in-studio appearance by comedian Finesse Mitchell ("You are welcome any time," Jeff said, while he should have added, "any time during the next two hours!"), Rudy's "payphone challenge" stunt to open the show, a letter from a listener about a medieval bush, and the final live D&D segment ever on 97.1, a round of "Beaver Pyramid." Other topics covered included a rundown of crappy songs that got Grammy nominations, Kwame thug Matt Allen's post-wifebeating fallout, audio of 911 calls from the Omaha Von Marr shooting, lead-up to the soon-to-be-canceled "Rudy as Pet Santa" event, and a discussion about a 20-lb New Jersey rat, as well as call-in segments about the best fights in sports history and listeners' horrible experiences selling homes in Michigan.

P.S. No blog post tomorrow, but as mentioned above, D&D will be LIVE on the air again with temp gigs in Philadelphia on 1210-AM tomorrow and Wednesday from 10pm-midnight -- we'll have the audio from those shows up on Wednesday and Thursday. Next week we'll post some of the final 97.1 D&D "Best Of" shows from the last couple weeks of 2007.

D&D - WXYT - Dec 6, 2007

Bill McAllister joined Jeff & Bill in the studio one last time during this show's final hour -- again, there's nothing like training your replacement. His girlfriend (who is waaaay out of his league), Danielle Car, was D&D's in-studio musical guest; maybe this is 2010 foreshadowing? Are Jeff and Bill going to land at WYCD? Or maybe at an "easy listening" station, based off of some of the embarrassing music libraries they revealed. I guess I'd rather that than Fox News Radio, but I personally don't think they're going to do the "music station morning show" gig again. Drew & Mike ability to be the only duo who can host an entire morning show on a music station without playing any tunes, combined with the lack of talk radio options in Detroit, would seem to indicate a geographic move, as well as one on the dial, is in the future for Deminski & Doyle.

Topics from this show (their next-to-last on 97.1) included coverage of a USA Today article about the worst jobs held by presidential candidates, an MSNBC story about a Ukrainian sex slave in Detroit, Jeff's Christmas wishes and his "exit strategies" for malls & workplaces (inspired by the then-recent Von Marr shooting), a bit of audio from Larry King (with Brad Pitt) and WXYZ Channel 7 (about Hannah Montana), and a little bit of rehashing of an earlier topic where an Austrian hospital patient sued a hospital due to improper anesthesia. Call-in topics were plentiful, ranging from lap band / gastric bypass stories and the proposed Michigan smoking ban to the importance of online "friends" and the last-ever Red Wings Thursday contest.

D&D - WXYT - Dec 5, 2007

This show was a fun little jigsaw puzzle to put together. For some reason, some sections of the show are missing and the rest of the segments were originally jumbled and out of order. I think we got them all put back together correctly and cleaned up, but there are still some dropouts at times. Due to the missing segments and the less than 100% confidence in the accuracy of the show's audio chronology, it's split into two "parts" as opposed to the normal hour-by-hour divisions.

Call-in segments from this show included "rank-a-[celebrity]-skank" nominations, as well as other ones about "bodily oddities," Jeff's son's new ga--err, play kitchen, and submissions for an upcoming Rudy-as-Pet-Santa in-studio open house (that was eventually canceled when they were yanked off the air a week early). Other topics covered included a list of the top 25 raunchiest comedies, Fart News, Sheri Shephard as the microcosm of stupid Americans, the latest Borat lawsuits (with audio), Hannah Montana concert news (also with audio, courtesy of Channel 7), Dave Chappelle's stand-up record, as well as an interview with Tank Jones, P.I.

D&D - WXYT - Dec 4, 2007

Yes, Pat the Weirdo once had a threesome, and yes, you get to (are forced to?) hear about it during the 7 o'clock hour of this show. Nicole's wonky computer also laid down some eerie foreshadowing, as WCSX was playing in the background during her 9:15 traffic report. Other topics covered way back on Dec 4, 2007 included Drew Peterson, Don Imus, the top Internet searches of 2007, tips for Doyle on getting out a speeding ticket, in-studio Guitar Hero demonstrations by Deminski and Rudy (FAIL!), a fake tree prank on a co-worker (Crazy Bob Turner), and a website devoted to Michigan-made products (buymichigannow.com). Call-in segments included experiences watching your own surgical procedures, Kim Worthy's top ten eleven violent video games and a debate about their effect on society, and the Redneck Killer, Joe Horn, the white guy from Texas who capped a couple black thieves who were stealing from his neighbor.

D&D - WXYT - Dec 3, 2007

I don't think D&D's "FCC Fine" show from 2002 would not have drawn as large of a fine (or any at all) had it aired in 2010. I always regret doing this, but I turned on a local morning show this morning and one of hosts was doing a very bad impression of a black sex coach talking about squeezing titties, smacking women (while somehow NOT making a Tiger Woods joke), and Dirty Sanchezes. The last segment of this show is very similar to many other segments that I've heard on many other local morning shows -- the 14-20 year-old male seems to be everyone's target audience now.

Anyway, this show included an interview with a D&D co-worker who is starting her own clothing line for pregnant women, "MILF Maternity Wear." I checked yesterday, I don't think the business still exists. Other topics covered included a movie sequel debate with overnight Porno Pete, Evil Kineval news, must-have Christmas gifts / Christmas tips, body modifications, FARK lists about the worst teeth in music and the dumbest people in Hollywood, as well as local & celebrity murder updates. D&D also cleared the air on a recent Oakland Press story and their supposed "Cheap Beyond Suspicion" quote. Call-in segments ranged from experiences while awake for surgery to "Bucket List" suggestions.

D&D - WXYT - Nov 30, 2007

I miss the Friday afternoon games. It just wasn't the same trying to call in to play a game while at work at 9 o'clock in the morning. The week-ending game from this show was "Name the [Obscure] TV Theme Song," in honor of the TV writers' strike. Other call-in segments included a rundown of hated celebrities, graveyard shift experiences, a local KFC panhandler who teamed up with one of the Bernstein lawyers (the ugly one?), and another game, the Lions' "Complete the Call" contest. Other topics covered were Nicole's drunk voicemails / Tony Larussa's drunk DUI audio, a D&D 97.1 contract update, a "keep fucking that chicken" outburst from WXYZ's Devin Scillian, a news story on video game trash talking, a debate about Granholm's new proposed service tax, the YMCA's policy on sex offenders, a trucker faking a piss test with his kid, and a Doyle vs. Beaver sports nickname trivia contest.

D&D - WXYT - Nov 29, 2007

Another partial WXYT show -- hey, it's better than nothing. Thanks again go out to the listener who hooked us up with these Oct - Dec 2007 shows. The audio we have of this show picks up in the middle of a Rudy vs. Nicole math quiz (that has FAIL written all over it, eh?) and moves on to interviews with Joel Joseph of the Made in USA (toys) foundation and WWJ's Ron Dewey about Stephen Grant and trial stories. The other big local murder of the year, the J.P. Orlewicz case, was also mentioned. Other topics covered included an English serial flasher, a rundown of the hottest scenes in film, clips of Romney vs. Giuliani and Monica Conyers, a Darwin award winning bank robber who won the lottery (and then got DQ'd), the local "AK47 bandits," and Jesus Christ on a bike. Call-in segments included a list of top sports movies and Madonna's dyed sheep (which inspired a CLASSIC Doyle vs. Nicole animal rights debate).

Here's the audio from Jeff & Bill's second fill-in stint at "The Big Talker," Philadelphia's WPHT 1210am. If anyone has audio from last Saturday night, it'd be MUCH appreciated! Topic covered included the health care bill (the ENTIRE first hour), the inclusion of the word "negro" on the census form, a local Philly story about jailing parents of delinquent kids, that asshole John Edwards' slutty mistress, and the super-fat New Jersey chick who dreams of turning into an elephant.

D&D got a plug on the stations' website (no pictures or podcasts though, and check out the spelling)...

D&D - WXYT - Nov 28, 2007

There was a lot of now-outdated time-sensitive stuff talked about during this show -- it's like a little D&D time capsule. Steven Grant's jury questionnaire, the "Ludachristmas" song (compared to local rapper Paradime's superior work), a Drew Peterson update, an angry tranny gang rampage at a McDonalds, as well as a call-in segment about Michigan possible inclusion of a medical marijuana bill on the 2008 ballot. There were also call-in segments about classic movie scenes, guilty TV pleasures, and listeners' favored methods of home protection (a crossbow? really?). Other topics covered included an e-mail rumor about Beaver's future, examples of political correctness gone crazy, alcohol quotes, a "rat island," and interviews with a local headbuttee victim and a long-time listener about to ship off with the Army.

D&D - WXYT - Nov 27, 2007

Only have half a show today, sorry. :( Damn, I was really looking forward to a two-year-old Marie Osmond update. Weekend warrior Bill McAllister joined D&D during the 7 o'clock hour of this show -- nothing like training your replacement, eh? It's funny how civil Jeff and Bill were to McAllister during this segment; maybe the "bad blood" came after they left 97.1? I know part of it was due to the way Rudy was let go. Hard to believe that turd is STILL working for CBS Radio. Gotta wonder what kind of compromising pictures he has of management. Anyway...other topics covered in this partial show included the breaking news of NFL player Shawn Taylor's death, the Superbowl Big Game tickets won by Jay the Cable Guy's wife (*coughBScough*), an interview with Deathpool Dave about the croaking of the lead singer of Quiet Riot, and a recap of the early days of the Tara Grant murder. Which reminds me, I stole an idea from Stephen Lynch:

Dear diary, I hope the day will get better
Just left a fight with my husband Steve
He has a temper but I love him to pieces
Even if he had some harsh words for me
I've gotta run now, I'm working a late shift
We'll watch "Dexter" when I get back
Love, peace, and jellybeans

D&D - WXYT - Nov 26, 2007

Rudy opened this show with a recap of his weekend adventures (at least the PG-rated ones) -- he snuck into the abandoned Michigan Central Depot Station, the big train station downtown, and took some pictures. We don't have Rudy's pics, but here's the website Jeff mentioned, forgottendetroit.com. I'd love to attempt something like that if not for the danger and risk of arrest. D&D later invited callers to play a very Conan-esque, screw-CBS-radio, let's-see-what-we-can-get-away-with type of game during the 8 o'clock hour, "X-Rated Price Is Right." There were more call-in segments, including stories about sneaking out of the house as a kid, leaving games and concerts early, violent women, and more on Black Friday. Other topics covered ranged from audio clips from Family Guy and a Jay the Cable guy-inspired wild goose chase about Santa Pimps to Nicole's flashing history, a studio-wide morality quiz from Time Magazine, old New York Times articles about Church/State separation and paparazzi, monkey meat, and a farmer who cut off his own arm (sounds like a country song!).

P.S. More fodder for Doyle's conspiracy theory.

D&D - WXYT - Nov 21, 2007

This was a pretty awesome show to get a hold, personally, as I was one of the contest winners. Won't tell you what contest (there were two of them) or what I won, figure it out yourself. The entire 8am hour was dedicated to a round of "Stump the Breeder" with Kevin and Christopher from Christopher's Salon, while the final hour of the show was spent on a Wednesday holiday edition of a Friday game, "Spot the Spot," inspired by the death of Mr. Whipple of Charmin fame. D&D gave away crap from their offices while preparing for their impending departure from 97.1. Very eerily similar to their final Match Game at NJ 101.5 -- there was even another M&M dispenser given away! Topics from the first half of the show included a call-in segment about animals getting fried on car engines (yay Cletus), as well as discussions about a naked highway runner hit by a taser, the ego size of college football coaches, crappy Glamour magazine articles (Nicole was quite funny here) and audio clips from the dual-rejection on The Bachelor, Frank Caliendo's new TV show, and Kanye West's mom's doctor on Larry King Live.

D&D - WXYT - Nov 20, 2007

I wish there was video of the "2007 Deminski & Doyle Turkey Bowling Extravaganza." The in-studio contests are always hilarious. There was also a classic Jeff vs. caller rant when the topic of Michael Vick came up, as well as more "listener interaction" segments including suggestions of new (sarcastic) "hate crime" laws, drunk food cravings (Rudy chimed in as well), and Black Friday plans. Other topics covered included Mr. Whipple's death, updated on the Steven Grant and J.P. Orlewicz dismemberment trials, a home explosion in Canton, a World of Warcraft quiz for Rudy, Celebrity Apprentice news, and an admission from Jeff that he wants to break up with his mom. We also heard the horrific version of "Oh, Holy Night."

D&D - WXYT - Nov 19, 2007

Wolfman Mac made (I believe) had his first ever interview with D&D during the first segment of this show -- out of makeup, I might add, unlike the in-studio appearance at WCSX. The Pistons' AutoMotion girls also stopped by the studio, while afternoon host Doug Karsh popped in early to talk to D&D about Lloyd Carr's retirement. Other topics covered included discussion the return of Detroit as America's most dangerous city, a taser death in Vancouver, a replay of a 911 call where a "good ol' boy" killed burglars in "self-defense," and a little topical talk about Cyber Monday and Thanksgiving history. The highlight of the show was the Bill Doyle Tabasco Challenge (*coughserialcheatercough*). Call-in segments included tips for Doyle / other Guinness book stories, Maryland anti-vaccination parents taken to court (hard to believe Doyle's a conspiracy theorist...even Jenny McCarthy changed her mind), the Michigan / Ohio State game, and recruiting contestants for the next day's Turkey bowling for Lions tickets.

D&D - WXYT - Nov 16, 2007

Every once in a while there's a piece of audio that just becomes a meme. The "Jimmy Dean Sausage" voicemail rant featured during this show is one example. Another classic bit is the first segment of the show, the Rudy vs. Nicole intelligence quiz (think upset!)...Rudy later gave a review of the Beowolf movie. Other topics included laying the groundwork for the Bill Doyle Tabasco Sauce challenge, a kerfluffle over Oscar de la Hoya's panties, a Houston motel implosion FAIL, another round of Complete the Call, as well as the Friday Game, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. There were also call-in segments about Barry Bonds and cell phone etiquette.

D&D - Blast From the Past #9 & #10

We've got more New Jersey 101.5 D&D goodness for y'all today. Thanks again to "the cousin" in New Jersey who found these segments on cassette tapes in his "archive" (why am I picturing something from the show "Hoarders?" :). The first clip is a short little ten minute segment from April, 1999, where Jeff and Bill discuss a newly-released report from the New Jersey Attorney General about NJ Troopers and racial profiling. This was a rare political discussion for D&D -- we had a nice Hannity & Colmes back-and-forth going on there. Sometimes Jeff reminds me of Stephen Colbert -- the character, not the comedian. The second bit is also believed to be from 1999 -- Doyle takes a "White Castle Challenge" and wages $85 on whether he can eat a dozen and a half sliders in 20 minutes. There was no exact date given for this segment, but judging from the weather reports (we cut some out, BTW, to smooth out any jump-cuts), this is from a Wednesday show during the summer. Looking at weather archives for 1999, my best guess would have to be August 4, 1999, during D&D's final week at NJ 101.5, even though their upcoming move to Detroit was never mentioned.

Interesting facts learned from these segments -- Bill T. (Beaver) had been working with D&D for three years, so that would place his beginnings with show to 1996. The debate about "vomit rule" during the White Castle bit may have been a precursor to the WingCup rules. Jeff puts his age at 35 and Doyle's at 36, so if we knew their birthdates, we could better place the date of the segment. Another funny note is Doyle's "I love Tabasco sauce" quip -- later this week we're going to feature the Doyle Tabasco Challenge from November, 1999 2007 [EDIT: Oops totally got that date wrong!].

D&D - WXYT - Nov 14, 2007

This is the last update for the week -- heading out of town for a long weekend and while I am addicted to the Internet, I plan on keeping it to a minimum. Just get my fix and move on. I can play it cool, really. No trading sexual favors for Wi-Fi for me, no sir.

Though they were few and far-between at WCSX, D&D often had shows at 97.1 (and at 101.5 in New Jersey) that featured a ton of listener interaction. [Speaking of NJ 101.5, we'll have a couple brand-new classic WXKW segments up next week!] Call-in segments from this one included 6am guesses at the "top 50 TV icons," answers to Photographic Memory Dennis's stupid questions (hope Sarah Palin doesn't hear this segment!), accounts of young girls lying about their age (somehow spawned from an update to the J.P. Orlewicz thrill kill case), opinions about the "hittable-ness" of Survivor: China contestant Courtney, more mancard violation stories, experiences with dogs' weird mastication (sic) habits, and a contest for U of M football tickets. There were plenty of other topics covered, such as Tom Tancredo's "Daisy"-esque campaign ad, a Swiss campaign to have sex with the disabled, an AP correction about Paris Hilton and "binge drinking elephants," an update to the local La Shish tax evasion story, possible NARC'ing by universities on their students, and interviews with MadTV's Arden Myrin (Farm Sluts!) and Survivor castoff Jean-Robert.

D&D - WXYT - Nov 13, 2007

This was one of those shows where Jeff and Bill mostly brought up topics and just sat back and let the listeners chime in. We had call-in segments regarding the Michigan "driver responsiblity" fee, the lack of mandatory sick leave, "palling around" with your ex-in-laws, a debate about which date a chick should "give it up" on, and Deminski's possible man-card violation at the Novi Pet Expo. Other topcs included the latest on the then-recent J.P. Orlewicz "thrill kill" case (including audio from Kim Worthy), a Jeff vs. Rudy TV catchphrase quiz, soon-to-be-unemployed Deminski's paying-with-change story, John Cena's anger at a horribly-edited CNN segment, a story about sex abuse by a nun (EWWWW!), a list of things NOT to do at work, and an interview with Gordon "Uncle John" Javna, author/editor of the famous "Bathroom Readers."

D&D - WXYT - Nov 12, 2007

Unfortunately we only have the second half of this show. Catch the interview with the (in my opinion, overrated) Frank Caliendo, followed by a few stories from listeners about seeing famous comics life. Other topics included new Jones Soda holiday flavors, the illegality of fingering a lime at a bar (no euphemisms there), some audio of a (fake?) Brittany Spears soundcheck, and the amazing recession-proof attributes of Hannah Montana. There was also another call-in segment about popular cars for each gender.
