D&D - July 31, 2009

The Friday Game is starting to make a comeback akin to the Dave Matthews Band song "Shotgun," which we Detroiters got a brief tease of on Tuesday. First there was a half-hour of "Will the Drunk Know It?" last Friday during the final hour of the show, then today (at 6:41) they closed out the 6am hour with a short round of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" to give away tickets to their D&D Drive-In Double-Feature Day next week. Maybe we'll yet again be treated to a full game one of these weeks? Lotta stuff covered on this morning's show, many of them listed below; those that weren't deemed podcast-worthy included a call-in segment on the dangers of yard sales (and their recent recession-induced surge in popularity), an audio clip from the White House Beer Summit, another Daily Show clip (this one from John Hodgman), an update on Nicole's Chihuahua Challenge, and a Sarah Palin poetry reading by William Shatner, courtesy of the Tonight Show. Other topics from today were, thanks to WCSX.com:

1. BRANDI HOMETOWN HOTTIE PICS! (pics / links) - Here are the pictures of Brandi Alexis! She is from Canton, and is a semi-finalist for the MAXIM Hometown Hotties competition...Vote For Brandi! A Michigan Maxim Hometown Hottie Semi-Finalist! To Vote Click Here! Check out Brandi's website!
2. 7 YEAR OLD DRVER! (video) - A quiet Sunday morning in Plain City was disrupted by calls of an unusual, reckless driver. The Weber County Sheriff's Office released dash-cam video of a 7-year-old boy who went to great lengths to get out of going to church on July 26. He took the family car and led police on a low-speed chase. Click here to see the video!
3. 5 YEAR OLD COVERS "FOLSOM PRISON BLUES" (video) - Five-year-old Wesley hit the stage in a Seattle coffee shop to perform "Folsom Prison Blues." Apparently, in addition to having a bitchin' Prince Valiant haircut, Wesley is the world's biggest fan of the the Man in Black. We think he pretty much kills it. Click here to see the video! Speaking of talented kids...check out this amazing art by a 6 YEAR OLD! Experts have said that the six-year-old's atmospheric paintings, which began with harbour scenes and expanded to include rural vistas, animal portraits and landmarks, have perspective, shadow and reflections that demonstrate an ability well beyond his years.

4. RON LIVINGSTON (podcast) - You know Ron Livingston best from "OFFICE SPACE." Chicks dig him cause he was on "SEX IN THE CITY." Ron has a new TV show on ABC called "Defying Gravity."
5. BRANDI MAXIM HOMETOWN HOTTIE (podcast) - Brandi from Canton stopped in this morning...She is a semi-finalist for the MAXIM Hometown Hotties competition! Look at her pictures and you will know why!
6. LEWIS BLACK (podcast) - Comedian Lewis Black was on the show this morning! Black will perform on his "Let Them Eat Cake" Tour at The Fillmore Sunday August 2nd!
7. CASH FOR CLUNKERS (podcast) - Cash For Clunkers was so popular so fast it's out of money! Listen to who took advantage of the Cash For Clunkers Program!
8. STOP ON RED WEEK (podcast) - [CLASSIC DEMINSKI RANT! Very good unintentional Lewis Black impression by Jeff!] These are their words not ours! FAIL! "The National Campaign to Stop Red Light Running is comprised of grassroots members and crash survivors who care deeply about traffic safety and want to see the Campaign persevere in its mission. As we turn the corner in this new situation, we will rely on the support, enthusiasm and creativity of our members to help us find the resources to continue as an independent advocacy organization. Moving forward, we believe the Campaign can be more relevant than ever in promoting responsible driving behavior and fostering effective, accountable traffic safety photo enforcement programs to help meet that goal."

D&D - July 30, 2009

Everyone seemed to get their chance to "solo" on today's show (sans Jim O'Brien, who's still on vacation). Jeff had his empathetic bit towards the nutty Dearborn Dog Hoarder guy, Doyle got to sneak another gory story into the end of the show, Rudy took a "slang dictionary" quiz and later avoided having to submit to a "slang jar," Nicole got to blather on about animals without being made fun of by D&D (well, only a little bit), and Jason got to talk about sports. Oh, wait...well, Jason had to own up to his mancrushes for Bob Seger and Tiger Woods. Everyone got to chime in with questions for the KGB text messaging info service. In other news, the D&D Open House / Super Bonus Point Breakfast has been delayed due to station meddling, but the Super Bonus Point Drive-In Night is still on. Shorter segments from the 8am hour included an update on texting while driving laws, a new 3D TV, another round of Play the Numbers, and an interview with Cam Bear from Advanced Automotive & Transmissions, today's WCSX Workforce Business of the Day winner. Other topics were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. NICOLE SALEM'S CHIHUAHUA CHALLENGE (link) - "As a Chihuahua owner myself, the story about the 100 Chihuahuas found living in such terrible, filthy conditions in a Dearborn home broke my heart. When I saw their sweet little faces on the news, I decided to try and figure out a way to help them. As you know, animal shelters are typically non-profit, and they survive on only donations. While there will never be a shortage of homeless animals, unfortunately, there is always a shortage of money. I look at my beloved Chihuahua Lacy (who I also adopted from another animal shelter!) and it's too painful to even imagine 100 others just like her being forced to live in such disgusting conditions...Click here for the whole story! Thank you for your donations and your help --Nicole Salem"
2. BRAD EDWARDS / NICOLE'S CHIHUAHUA CHALLENGE (podcast) - Jeff Deminski thinks that Fox 2 reporter Brad Edwards was being way to harsh on the Dearborn Chihuahua Hoarding Nut Job. Nicole Salem has started the "Chihuahua Challenge" to help raise money for the rescued chihuahuas. D&D didn’t miss this opportunity to make fun of Nicole though!
3. THE GREAT BELT DEBATE 2009 (podcast) - D&D got into a heated debate with Rudy about when it is ok for a man to wear a belt, and when it is NOT ok. You will be VERY surprised by who won this argument.
4. DANIEL TOSH (podcast) - D&D talked to Daniel Tosh - host of the Comedy Central series called Tosh.O. If you haven't seen Tosh.O - you don't know what you are missing, HILARIOUS.
5. DAVIS GUGGENHEIM (podcast) - D&D talk with Davis Guggenheim, director of "It Might Get Loud," a documentary on electric guitar featuring Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White.

D&D - July 29, 2009

My rant from yesterday had an opposite effect it seems -- we had an extremely segmented, fractured show today full of mostly short little blurbs and headline-style, two-minute long segments. The only other interesting (and long enough) topic not listed below that should have had an official podcast was the discussion about finding dead bodies and human remains in Detroit, though it should have been longer and they certainly could have taken more calls. I understand the difference between a morning show and an afternoon drive show. In the afternoon, people not only put the show on during the drive home, but a 3pm-7pm show could also be on during and after dinner in your own home. In the morning, you're in your car for a half hour and then (for most people) the radio gets turned off. So I'd bet not as many people listen to the entire show. But management should really pattern the D&D Show after morning shows on TALK radio stations and not the typical morning drive program -- they had a formula that worked for years, why mess with it?

Anyway, back to today's show -- among the other topics mentioned were Doyle's new trifocals, a study on texting while trucking, the (newest) recent local car-crash-tragedy [side note - a bridge collapses and no one dies, yet three kids are dead from a single car accident?], a "Dear-Abby-my-sister-is-a-porn-star" letter, and a filmcritic.com list of the top 50 best movie quotes (I love #100). A couple clips were played yesterday's television offerings -- Larry Wilmore from the Daily Show spoke about "Henry Louis-Gate" and Hell's Kitchen attempted to claim a de facto trademark on the word "bitch" -- and Denise from Aesop's Catering and Cafe (newest Workforce Business of the Day) was brought on the air to plug her shop. Michael Phelps is in the news for losing a race; Deminski played an Afroman song for him, but I swapped that out for the parody of the same song D&D played back in Feburary. Also to note, Rudy is producing the show while Jim O.B. is away; this has FAILTRAIN written all over it. Podcasted segments were, thanks to WCSX.com:

1. DRIVE IN MOVIES ROCK! (podcast) - Deminski is still having a tough time convincing Doyle that drive in movies totally rock. So he had listeners call in and help him out.
2. THE TRANSVESTITE (podcast) - Ever learn a secret about your friend that perhaps you didn't really want to know? Like maybe how that friend likes to dress up like the opposite sex?
3. WHITE TRASH (podcast) - We all have that image that comes to mind when we hear "white trash." What do you think is white trash? Nascar? Putting a kiddie pool in your front yard? Letting your kids run around outside naked?
4. LOWER THE DRINKING AGE? (podcast) - Some people think that lowering the drinking age will prevent a lot of the problems we have with young people binge drinking, and drunk driving. What do you think?

D&D - July 28, 2009

Admittedly, he ADHD-style, short attention span framework of the "new" D&D show can get a little annoying. All the commercial breaks and sports updates and songs and classic rock interviews have the side effect of limiting segment lengths. I miss the old days when the guys would spend a whole hour on one segment. At least it seems like they're being allowed to choose their own music -- they played two songs that referenced dogs in the lyrics today, another that was a parody song about Michael Vick (which we didn't edit out), a song dedicated to Doyle's new gecko, and "Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen as a follow-up to their interview with Christina from the new(est) reality piece of crap dating show, "More to Love."

Other topics covered on this morning's show were the upcoming Super Bonus Point D&D Drive-In Double Feature (geez, that sounds dirty), a call-in segment about Deminski's wife's white trash / ghetto family habits (l'il bit o' D&D wife bashing in the very early 6am hour *coughcowardscough* :), and an update to the Henry Louis Gates fiasco from Massachusetts. There were also a couple other interviews -- Michael Nemchik, newest winner of the WCSX Workforce Business of the Day, hopped on the air for some manwhoring and "Bob Barker" gave his opinion of Michael Vick. Podcast-worthy topics were, as listed at WCSX.com:

1. WHAT THE HELL IS WITH MADONNA? (link) - If ever she tires of showbiz, a new career clearly awaits Madonna. She could pose for medical students keen to learn about the muscular system. Her once hefty arms have now lost every trace of fat, causing every vein and sinew to stand out in stark relief. Check out Madonna!
2. DEARBORN "DOG MAN'S" LAWYER (podcast) - James Schmier is the lawyer for the guy in Dearborn who had all the dogs in his house...Lang has signs of obsessive-compulsive disorder, Schmier said, a condition that sometimes is characterized by a tendency to hoard things. For Lang, that meant never throwing away refrigerators, television sets, mattresses or rotting food. Lang's Dearborn home has been the site of a major cleanup since last week, when 110 live dogs were pulled from a trashed and feces-filled home. Authorities found more than 150 dead dogs in freezers. Schmier said Lang is broke and couldn't afford to have the dogs cremated. Freezing them was the best option to ensure they didn't decompose, he said.
3. WOMEN AND HORROR FLICKS (podcast) - Jeff Deminski believes that older women do not like horror films the way men and younger women do. How long before Jeff is proven wrong?
4. DOG FIGHTS (podcast) - Dog fights are illegal, and something that we have come to associate with recently reinstated NFL football player Michael Vick. D&D want to know - if you were guaranteed to not get caught - would curiosity get the better of you? Would you watch a dog fight?

D&D - July 27, 2009

Rudy unintentionally tried to set his house on fire, Nicole got into a "skinny girl vs. fat girl fight", and Dave Coulier lost his shoes and had to come to the studio barefoot. Sounds like everyone had a hell of a weekend. Doyle went to a Tigers game -- not sure what Deminski did with his weekend, but as a fellow parent of toddlers, I'd bet that whatever it was had something to do with his kids. Hopefully he didn't end up like I did (and no, that's not actually me). Today was the first day of the WCSX Recession Busting Workforce Business of the Day -- Denise from Connie's Children's Shop called in to explain why her shop is named after her sister. This is so wrong, but after Doyle made a joke about it I was totally hoping she would say that she opened the store after her sister died, just to make him look like an ass. Nothing against Doyle, I just have a twisted sense of humor.

Anyway -- other topics covered today included a list of top "movie badasses," a bit o' Tony Romo / Jessica Simpson / John Mayer love-triangle gossip (which segued into Jim O'Brien's own get-out-of-my-car story), a call-in discussion about using lie detectors as infidelity avoidance, a few crazy animal stories, another episode of "Thad McCotter is a Harry Potter villain an idiot", and another round of "Will the Drunk Get It?" Podcast-worthy segments were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. THE YOUNG PERSON’S DEFINITION OF BEING "SINGLE" (podcast) - D&D have a completely different definition of what being "single" means, than Rudy. Will somebody PLEASE settle this argument?
2. DAVE COULIER (podcast) - Dave Coulier stopped by to chat with the guys in studio! Um...can anyone explain why Dave isn't wearing any shoes?
3. ROD ALLEN (podcast) - Rod Allen called in with his weekly Tigers report, and a recap on the weekend series against the Chicago White Sox.
4. D-list week of 7-27 (video) - Weekly D&D update video.

D&D - July 24, 2009

Holy crap! They played a Friday Game! Well...sorta...it wasn't officially called that and it only took up about half of the 6pm 9am 8am hour (the Jeff Daniels interview closed out the show), but "Will the Drunk Know It?" game was played during the final hour of the show on a Friday and it was fairly long. Viva La D&D Revolucion? Seemed like the guys took it somewhat easy today -- not a bad plan for a Friday. The aforementioned game was long enough to span a commercial break, the Jeff Daniels and Brandon Inge interviews were both pretty lengthy, and they spent quite a bit of time ogling over talking with Crystal Renee. The only segments that didn't make it onto an official podcast or link on the D&D Website were a brief mention of the 100 dogs rescued from an abandoned Dearborn house, another round of Play the Numbers, and a couple sports stories -- Mark Buehrle's perfect game and a video of a UFC Knock-the-fuck-Out that had Jim O'Brien all a-twitter. Here are the other segments, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. PICS OF CRYSTAL RENEE (pics) - Maxim Hometown Hottie Crystal Renee was in studio this morning! Let the pictures do the talking!
2. UNITED BREAKS GUITARS (video) - In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn't deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say "no" to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise. Click here to read the entire story!
3. WILL THE DRUNK KNOW IT? (podcast) - Here's a fun new game: Send an intern to a bar to quiz (and record) drunk people. Then take calls from listeners betting on whether or not the drunk will know the answer!
4. ATTACK OF THE BALD FACED HORNETS (podcast) - Jeff Deminski has a huge problem. Bald Faced Hornets (which are particularly aggressive) have invaded his home!
5. CRYSTAL RENEE (podcast) - Crystal Renee, of Ypsilanti, is one of Maxim’s Hometown Hotties finalists! She joined D&D in studio this morning. Make sure you vote for her!
6. JEFF DANIELS (podcast) - Jeff Daniels called in to talk to the guys about - pretty much all things Michigan! Jeff also talks about his upcoming performance at the Purple Rose Theater.
7. BRANDON INGE (podcast) - Brandon Inge, of the Detroit Tigers called in to chat with D&D about his knee injury, and what it's like being an All-Star for the first time!

D&D - July 23, 2009

Are D&D in trouble? For two days in a row now they've made seemingly offhand comments (audio link) that would seem to indicate that they might have some worries about the future of the show. Maybe it's just their self-deprecating sense of humor or maybe it's just passive-aggressive frustration over (forced? unwanted?) recent changes to the show. Anyone know how the length of their contact with WCSX? None of the press releases or news reports from when they got the show last November make mention of it.

Full show today, nearly interview-free (Curtis Granderson was the only exception). Martha Reeves' recent campaign snafu was mentioned, as were a Detroit News story about top Detroit-area public restrooms, an article from CNN.com about horrible job interview responses, and an update on yesterday's mention of the huge upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame anniversary concert. Listener call-in segments included a run down of a list of the hottest women in Hollywood as well as the minimum wage and name-psychoanalysis bits mentioned below. Other topics also discussed were a list of "Things Your Kids May Never Know About" and a lengthy Buddy's Pizza story from Deminski. Podcast-worthy segments were, as stolen from WCSX.com:

1. VOTE FOR CRYSTAL RENEE (link) - Vote for Crystal Renee from Ypsi in the Maxim Hometown Hottie Contest! Click here to vote!
2. LEBRON JAMES GETS DUNKED ON! (video) - The video has been released of Jordan Crawford dunking on Lebron James!
3. TABLOID T-SHIRTS "DO IT BABY!" - Thanks to our friends at Tabloid T-shirts, we've got some VERY FUNNY "Bonnie & Clyde" t-shirts to give away (keep listening...we never know when we'll give 'em out) — to order your own shirt, and check out the rest of their stuff - click here
4. IFART VS PULL MY FINGER (video) - Wyatt Cenac from The Daily Show explores the cutthroat business rivalry between "Pull My Finger" and "iFart."
5. WHAT DOES YOUR NAME MEAN TO OTHERS? (podcast) - We found a book that explains what your name means to others...Is this accurate? For instance, the book relates Rudy to the Mafia...FAIL...And Nicole as stuck up...Getting closer Doc!
6. 20 IQ POINTS FOR A PERFECT BODY? (podcast) - Would you give up 2o IQ points to have a perfect body? Great ethical question...Not sure anyone from the morning show can afford to lose twenty, if any points at all! How about you?
7. $10 MINIMUM WAGE? (podcast) - There is a push to get minimum wage up to $10 per hour...Will this help or hurt small businesses? Should people just learn to live within their means?
8. CURTIS GRANDERSON (podcast) - Tiger center fielder (sic) Curtis Granderson called in this morning...He is hosting a wine tasting/bachelor auction tonight at Big Rock in Birmingham...Not only will Curtis be up for auction, but also Edwin Jackson, and Ryan Perry...This is all benefiting The Grand Kids Foundation, Granderson's charity...more info click here!

D&D - July 22, 2009

Rudy took a Harry Potter quiz on the air today and did quite well (dork). Never really got into the whole Harry Potter franchise, myself. Not because it's a "children's book," but because I associate it, along with the Star Wars prequels, with a naaaasty ex-girlfriend. She owned the first HP book I read and we watched the first two HP movies and SW episode I & II together. Interesting bit of trivia -- I didn't learn this until later on, but she had actually starred in Return of the Jedi. There are also a couple songs I can't listen to anymore without throwing up in my mouth a little being reminded of her. Does anyone else have that? Old TV shows or movies or songs that are forever tainted? Matchbox 20's entire second CD is also intertwined in my mind with a girl.

Anyway, back to D&D. Other topics from this morning's show included periodic updates on the dumbass who couldn't read a WRONG WAY sign on I-275 (another new Iranian driver, maybe?), a list of a popular rock & roll myths / urban legends, a Dear Abby swinger-party letter, a discussion about Michael Vick, a couple clips from a testosterone-charged episode of Hell's Kitchen, and a breaking newsflash about a possible Rock & Roll Hall of Fame anniversary concert. Deminski is also planning another Super Bonus Points extravaganza -- they're hoping to have a free breakfast / in-studio open house in a couple weeks. I'll have to try to wire up and get down there. :) Here are some other segments, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. CELEBMATCH.COM (link) - Ever wonder what celebrity you should be paired up with? Well there is a way to do it! Click here to find out!
2. BEST SPORTS REMIX EVER! (link) - This is an awesome remix of press conference highlights that includes Allen Iverson, the Jim Mora playoff rant, the Denny Green "They are who we thought they were" thing, the Mike Gundy "I’m 40, I’m a man!" lunacy AND Joe Namath trying to kiss Suzy Kolber...well, that man is a genius. Check out the remix here!
3. JOHN KUESTER (podcast) - D&D interview the new head coach of the Detroit Pistons! The big question...did he buy a house? Or is he just renting?
4. A.J. BAIME - D&D interviewed A.J. Baime, author of Go Like Hell, about the Ford Ferrari. A must read for any muscle car enthusiast!
5. FIND YOUR CELEBRITY MATCH! (podcast) - There's a website called Celebmatch.com. It uses astrology and biorhythms to tell you which celebrity you are most compatable with. D&D decided to test this out.
6. D&D WORKFORCE BUSINESS OF THE DAY (link) - With jobs being lost and businesses struggling, we thought of a way we might help. This costs you nothing, and could give your company a boost. Start by clicking on the link below, then just give us some information about your business and you may upload a photo of your store, your shop or your employees. Each day D&D will select one business and make them the CSX Workforce Business of the Day. If your business is chosen, you'll get mentioned throughout the workday here on 94.7 WCSX, free ads all day, and your business will be in the running for a $20,000 advertising schedule here on WCSX. D&D - July 21, 2009

Anybody know how to spell "corqphinorshing?" I wanna add it to the Urban Dictionary but I want to make sure I have the spelling right first. Jeff dropped the "ph" part today, but I'm not sure about "cork" vs. "corq." Also, on a completely unrelated note, I just discovered my new favorite band name, Moniska Lewinsky and the Clintones. This A.D.D. moment was brought to you by Ritalin. As far as the show this morning -- there were a few memorable clips that were inexplicably not podcasted on the official website, including a very long (and, I believe, in-studio) interview with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the writers of Saw IV - Saw VI. They also gave away tickets to their new movie, The Collector. Some shorter, but still funny segments from today's show were a list of Unfortunate URLs (e.g. onehourscrap.com, childrenslaughter.com, doggiestyles.com, ladrape.com, penisland.com, powergenitalia.it, speedofart.com, therapistfinder.com, and twatravel.com), recent Detroit-area Craigslist missed connections, a few Darwin award winners, and Jim O'Brien's anger towards Royal Oak. There were also a couple clips played from Paula Abdul and Jason's scrappy wife Taryn Asher. Other topics covered were, thanks to WCSX.com:

1. BEATLES - ROCK BAND INTRO (video) - This is the intro to the "Beatles Rock Band" that comes out in September...how freakin' cool is this?
2. ESSENTIAL ROCK (podcast) - Doyle is trying to create a play list for his 12 year old son's IPOD...His kid is taking bass guitar lessons, and is in need of some classic rock inspiration! What is essential rock to you?
3. ROD ALLEN (podcast) - Time for FSD's Rod Allen to check in with his weekly Tiger's Report! WTF happened to the offense?
4. JEFF'S OVEREATING QUIZ (podcast) - Deminski thinks he has a problem...He took a few quizzes online from Over Eaters Anonymous...The results were F...Not for FAIL...More like FOOD!
5. RUDY'S HOUSE IS STORAGE (podcast) - Rudy just moved into his new house...He has been there just over a week...Already his friend has stored a worthless/beat-up jet ski in his garage! Rudy could have said no, but he never seems to stick up for himself! FAIL!
6. INVENTING WORDS (podcast) - Some people claim they have invented words that have become part of pop culture...Rudy thinks he invented chillax...Yeah no he didn't...And well Jim O'Brien invented a few words of his own...
7. D-list week of 7-20 (video) - Weekly D&D update video.

D&D - July 20, 2009

D&D trivia question...what do these three four people have in common? Ian Anderson, Michael Irvin, Moon Bloodgood and WXYZ's Steve Wilson? Actually, y'know what...I really hope D&D do a trivia contest again, those were always fun (2006 trivia contest audio can be found here or here). The guys seemed to have quite of a bit of fun with the in-studio poker game with Joseph Cada this morning. Maybe the next listener get-together Super Bonus Points night could be a casino night? As previously noted, the 6:00 hour got ostracized from the official podcasts again -- and unfortunately, the audio stream cut out a few times as well during the first hour of the broadcast. Topics covered during Hour 1 included a recap of the guys' weekend concert experiences (Kid Rock & Alan Parsons, a match made in heaven), another round of Rock & Roll Heaven, and a story about Rudy looting an abandoned car. Also, near the end of the show, Rossi Morreale, host of ABC's new show Dating in the Dark, called in to chat with D&D about the newest entry into the crappy reality dating show club (psssst...someone tell Jeff it's not on NBC). Other segments included, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. NIRVANA GETS RICK-ROLLED! (video) - Nirvana gets Rick-Rolled! Check out Smells Like Teen Spirit with special guest vocalist Rick Astley...
2. JOE CADA (podcast) - Joe Cada is a local guy - from Shelby Twp. He is only 21 years old, and he is in the World Series of Poker! He stopped by to talk to D&D all about poker, Vegas, and being alot richer than most 21 year olds.
3. JEFF LEARNS POKER...MAYBE (podcast) - Jeff wants to challenge Joe Cada, of the World Series of Poker to a game. The problem? Jeff doesn't know how to play, and Doyle is just making things worse.
4. THE MOON LANDING (podcast) - D&D talk about the anniversary of the moon landing, and space exploration. Oh yeah, Jeff is still trying to convince Bill that the moon landing was NOT fake.
5. ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN (podcast) - If you had to create the ultimate rock band, using only rockstars that are dead - who would your band members be?
D&D - July 17, 2009

Happy Friday-day, everyone. Still no end of week game to play. :( D&D did go into a bit more details about the idea Jeff had teased over the last couple of days, the "D&D Workforce Business of the Day" (see #5 below). Rookie comedian / singer Nick Thune (Stephen Lynch, anyone?) took time to speak with the guys this morning -- he'll be at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle this weekend. Other things that popped up on the show included a "D&D Crew Hug It Out" session, a list of the most dangerous foods to eat while driving, props to Family Guy for their Emmy nod, a conversation about who would star in a Detroit Corruption movie, an audio clip from the guy who caused the I-75 disaster, a story from Nicole Salem about her father's coffin size, and a few small little bits to end the show -- Jon Stewart's opinion on the Sessions / Sotomayor debacle, a naked nun story, and a look at the driving patterns of hybrid owners. Other segments were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. ROD ALLEN (podcast) - Rod Allen called in with his weekly Tiger's report. Rod also gives his prediction for the second half of the season for the Tigers.
2. KEVIN DIETZ ON SAM RIDDLE (podcast) - D&D talked to WDIV's Kevin Dietz this morning, about his coverage of the Sam Riddle court appearance.
3. LITTLE STEVEN (podcast) - D&D talk to Little Steven from The E Street Band. You can see Bruce Springsteen on tour in Detroit on Nov 13!
4. HELP SAVE RADIO (link) - Greater Media, Inc. is running a petition to stop the implementation of a performance tax. Radio as a medium is dying anyway, this would be the final nail in the coffin. Sign up to help pressure Congress to fight the performance tax.
5. D&D WORKFORCE BUSINESS OF THE DAY (link) - With jobs being lost and businesses struggling, we thought of a way we might help. This costs you nothing, and could give your company a boost. D&D - July 16, 2009

Glad I don't have to drive on I-75. In the spirit of Pete Hoekstra, I guess I cay say that we all know what the folks in Minneapolis went through a couple years ago. Except this wasn't due to government incompetence, no one died (though I did have to miss America's Got Talent), and an overpass isn't nearly as big or expensive to replace as a bridge. Other than that, it was all the same. D&D opened their show with a brief interview with Channel 7's Peggy "Sweetie" Agar about the accident and later spoke with MDOT communication representative Rob Morosi about the department's short- and long-term plans for the area. Other non-podcast-worthy segments from this morning's show included a baseless attack on Al Franken's Perry Mason obsession (click here to see who is truly deserving of scorn), an update on Jeff's "Recession Buster" contest idea, and a couple small stories about fetal & childhood memories and robots fueled by corpses and souls. Other topics were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. WOMEN'S ICONIC SWIMSUIT MOVIE MOMENTS (link) - Some bikinis aren't made for swimming (see Raquel Welch in fur or Ali Larter in whipped cream), and sometimes swimming doesn't require a swimsuit at all. Check out these leading ladies in their most unforgettable swimwear-inspired moments and vote on who’s the most sizzling. Did we forget anyone?
2. SAM RIDDLE INTERVIEW (podcast) - Ok...not really. But sorta. It sure sounds real, doesn't it? It is definitely believable. It's probably how Sam Riddle would answer those questions anyway. [Or at the very least, Morgan Freeman.]
3. ALAN PARSONS (podcast) - D&D got to interview Alan Parsons, of The Alan Parsons Project. Any bets that they mention that scene from the Austin Powers movie that mentions The Alan Parsons Project?
4. JON HEFFRON (podcast) - Jon Heffron called in to talk about The Jon Heffron Special, premiering this Saturday at 11 on Comedy Central.
5. BEST BIKINIS (podcast) - The Huntington Post made a list of the "Top Iconic Bathing Suits in Movies." Can you guess which ones made the list?

D&D - July 15, 2009

Molson Canadian beer bottles have little gimmicky questions on their back label, and I think I just came up with a new one. Answer honestly, would you prefer...every day to feel like a Monday or every day to feel like a Wednesday? A Monday once inspired a killing spree, but Hump Day certainly has its own torturous attributes -- equidistance from past and future weekend is the biggest. It also seems like time slows down midweek, only to accelerate again as the end of the week approaches, as if the workweek has a tidal effect on the space-time continuum. Not that any of this has anything to do with D&D -- I still have writer's block and "loren ipsum" only works once. Topics from todays show included another round of Play the Numbers, a story about Mike Novak (D&D's agent) almost falling out of a 10th-story window, Jeff's Ed-Schultz-like idea for free WCSX ads, a list of then-expensive old electronic gizmos, and local news updates about the sad fates of Sam Riddle and Nevaeh Buchanan. From WCSX.com, Other segments included, but were not limited to:

1. ZACH SELWYN (podcast) - D&D Talked to Zach Selwin (sic) - Host of a new show called "Catch It Keep It." Basically, people have the opportunity to win some REALLY cool stuff. The players have a certain amount of time to either win something really cool - or watch it self destruct.
2. RUDY'S A MESS (podcast) - Rudy goes for a bike ride, and crashes. FAIL. Also, is it just us, or is it totally creepy that Rudy is going to go see the new Harry Potter movie BY HIMSELF? And what’s with the Harry Potter scarf he wore today?
3. THE JIM O'BRIEN TAI CHI DEMONSTRATION (podcast) - Deminski and Doyle Show producer, Jim O'Brien, once studied Tai Chi. True Story. He was even cool enough to give us an in studio demonstration.
4. RUDY AND THE JAGER CHALLENGE (podcast) - There is a new TV show called "Catch It Keep It." We decided to play our own version of Catch It Keep It with Rudy. Oh yeah - it involved the Love of Rudy's Life: Jager.

Here's the show:

Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum. Don't you agree? Also, I wonder if D&D are missing their pre-song cues on purpose to passively-aggressively protest the recent influx of music on their "talk" show?

Non-podcast-worthy topics from today included the entire 6:00 hour (Jeff discussed his hearing loss and the crew took an online hearing test Doyle found; a "top movie deaths" list was reviewed) as well as stupid Sotomayor / umpire comparisons from right-wing idiots senators and a replay of a stupid hotel room prank. Other topics were, thanks to WCSX.com:

1. MYSTERY TIGER (podcast) - This morning D&D played "Always A Tiger" to give away more baseball tickets...Today's game was special cause we had a mystery tiger on the phone and listeners had to ask him one yes or no question...Then attempt a guess...Can you guess who the mystery tiger is before the winner?
2. OBAMA AND MICHIGAN BUSINESSES (podcast) - President Obama will be in Michigan today...Apparently giving a quick speech then heading to St. Louis for the MLB All Star Game...Obama is scheduled to throw out the first pitch, and make an appearance in the broadcast booth...We have the worst economy in America but baseball is far more important...
3. NICOLE GIVES SUGGESTIVE BIKINI (podcast) - OK guys not Nicole "in" a bikini...Nicole Salem went to her friends baby shower this past weekend...As a gift she bought a baby bikini with "juicy" written across the butt...Could it be too suggestive for a child?
4. BAN SMOKING IN THE MILITARY? (podcast) - The military may ban smoking...even on the front lines...So you can die for your country, but can't have a smoke in the field?
5. WHY I STRAYED (podcast) - Jerry Cook has a website collecting data about "why people strayed" in their relationships...it's totally anonymous...
6. PATTY KASODY (podcast) - Family Law Attorney Patty Kasody joined us this morning...We talked divorces, but mainly about the scumbag Governor of South Carolina Mark Sanford...Remember that guy? Cheated on his wife with some mistress...Will they divorce? Possibly, but his wife may take him back...FAIL!

D&D - July 13, 2009

D&D are back this week (as are, ironically, Drew & Mike) and they have a new intro/theme song featuring some classic Detroit-related news and song clips. Hopefully they'll throw some drops on there like they used to do on WKRK. Seems like there's a LOT more music on D&D now -- even on days without "rock star" or Gary Graff interviews or contests. WRIF doesn't have music on it's morning show, not sure why D&D are being forced to be "damn DJ's" -- something Jeff said once his would never do. We'll just have to see what the future holds...maybe Gregg "Douchebag" Henson was right back in May? Anyway...segments from today included a discussion about Rudy's new free house, Jeff's experience at a dry black wedding, another round of Always a Tiger, and interviews with local hero Dave Proudfoot and Tom Wilson from PalaceNet. Jeff will hopefully report tomorrow on his audiology appointment (didn't he do this one the air once?) later today. Other topics were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. WHY I STRAYED - WEBSITE AND SURVEY! (no link) - We'll talk to a man who's collecting data about "why people strayed" in their relationships...it's totally anonymous - click here to fill out the survey
2. ROBERT PLANT KNIGHTED! (podcast) - Robert Plant is now officially a Commander of the British Empire after being bestowed with the title by Prince Charles on July 10, 2009 at Buckingham Palace. It's seems from the photo comments Plant has not aged well! Check out the pictures!
3. THE AMTRAK STORY (podcast) - An Amtrak passenger train carrying about 170 people struck a car that had skirted a gate at a road crossing in Canton on Thursday, killing all five people in the sedan. Who in their right mind would try and outrun a train? We can think of at least two...Doyle and Rudy...
4. SCOTT TAYLOR: FIVE DAYS IN HELL (podcast) - Scott Taylor is a journalist who was captured in Iraq...He was beaten and tortured for five days...He courageous story will air Wednesday night on The National Geographic Channel at 10pm.
5. BROCK LESNAR (podcast) - UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar defended his title Saturday night...Still thinking he was part of the WWE, Lesnar went on a psychotic rant after defeating Frank Mir...Lesnar later apologized due to the strong arm of UFC President Dana White! Also Monica Conyers was caught yelling at Scott Lewis!

D&D - July 6, 2009

D&D are on vacation this week, so we have a week's worth of "Best Of" shows to look forward to. Jim, Jason, and Nicole were all live in the studio this morning (guess it'd be weird to air reruns of sports and traffic reports) and chipped in a few funny moments between D&D clips and music. And yes, there was plenty of music -- probably more songs were played than abridged D&D segments. Previous segments replayed included interviews with Mick Fleetwood, Louis Black, Forrest Griffin, Don Henley, and a discussion about distracted driving. We went ahead and edited the "show" from this morning for your listening pleasure. Excluding the music and most of the commercials (and including a couple minute intro from Uncle Buck), the three-hour show shrank down to just under an hour and eight minutes.

D&D - July 3, 2009

Nothing much to post today; snuck away from familial duties for a little bit to get this up here, haven't listened to the show yet myself. Can't really tell a whole lot from the few official podcasts, but I assume it was a somewhat laid back show due to the holiday. Alice Cooper's interview was the big draw. Here are the few topics mentioned at WCSX.com:

1. BILL'S NEW FAMILY MEMBER (podcast) - Bill Doyle's kids have a pet dog. Bill does not like said dog. So now, he's getting a bearded dragon!? D&D take calls on lizards and other strange pets.
2. BARBECUE MISHAPS (podcast) - With the cuty of Highland Park actually BANNING barbecues - D&D thought they'd ask - has anyone ever had a barbecue mishap?
3. ALICE COOPER (podcast) - D&D interviewed Alice Cooper, and talked about everything from his new song to catching his teenage daughter with a boy!

D&D - July 2, 2009

Have a good holiday weekend y'all. I'll try to actually get "tomorrow's" update typed up tomorrow, but it might be late due to holiday imbibing. If you don't see an update by tomorrow night, I'll have it up by Saturday afternoon. Pretty funny show today, starting with the bastard 6'am hour (go here if you don't get the joke) all the way to the hairy armpits discussion from the final hour. I'm wondering if the guys are trying to make up for the lack of a Friday Game with all the shorter but more frequent contests (Always a Tiger and Play the Numbers both returned today). Other topics from today included an abridged reading of the 56 Worst High School [Literary] Analogies (sounds boring, but really funny), texting from the john, the new Russian / Nigerian oil company that's apparently owned by rappers, and the new glass floor platforms at the Sears Tower. Podcasted segments were, as listed on WCSX.com:

1. ROCK & ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVE (link) - Donate blood this weekend! Get free t-shirts and concert tickets and PIZZA! And, y'know, good karma...
2. KEVIN CRONIN (podcast) - Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon checked in this morning...Talking all things REO including their upcoming show at DTE July 9th with STYX! Oh yeah, one of our lucky listeners will be on stage singing with REO during one of their songs!
3. JIM O'BRIEN’S HANGOVER (podcast) - Producer Jim O'Brien went to the Bad Company show last night at DTE...He is gay for Paul Rodgers...3 beers and 5 captain and cokes later, O'Brien realizes he has to work in the morning....FAIL!
4. ARABIC TRANSLATOR (podcast) - There is an app coming for the I-PHONE and Blackberry that will translate foreign languages in real time! This will be great when you are out in public and think some foreigner is making fun of you!
5. MARRIAGE CONTRACT (podcast) - Jeff came up with this great idea...Treat marriage like a contract...Ya start with a 5 year deal with clauses inserted in the contract...That way if things don't work out you can bail at the end of term! Brilliant!

D&D - July 1, 2009

The 6am hour got "screwed" yet again; no official podcasts about Deminski's constant butt-dialing victimization, Jim O'Brien's past "relationship" with South Carolina Governor Mark "Playa" Sanford, yesterday's shooting in Detroit (that cost me an extra 45 minutes getting home), or Jeff's guilt over letting his kids bathe together. There was also this D&D insta-CLASSIC moment (audio link) -- inspired by the WSJ article about inappropriate touching in the workplace -- that would make the world a better place had they only recorded the webcam stream. The entire 7am hour is basically listed below, and the only two things from the final third of the show that aren't listed on the official website were a brief mention of Simon Cowell's insane American Idol salary raise and another round of the Always a Tiger game. Other topics were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. BILLY MAYS: THE RAP TRIBUTE (video) - Our favorite pitchman Billy Mays is dead...But his legacy lives on in this video!
2. TOP KNOX COUNTY HOOKERS (link) - Here is a photo gallery of the top prostitution offenders in Knox County..."I'd buy that for a dollar!" Click here to see the hookers!
3. DAN RISKIN (podcast) - Animal Planet has anew series called "Monsters Inside Me." Let's just say you need a VERY strong stomach for this one. Host Dan Riskin called to talk to D&D about the show.
4. BARBECUES...BANNED! (podcast) - A city in Michigan has has BANNED barbecues. This is not a joke. This is not even funny. Are you one of many people who will not be allowed to have a barbecue this 4th of July?
5. ROB PARKER (podcast) - Come OOOONNN! Rob Parker called in to discuss the Pistons' firing of head coach Michael Curry. Rob Parker was actually first to break the story.
6. TYUAWN BROWN (podcast) - Very special treat today for the D&D crew, Tyuawn Brown - a Michael Jackson impersonator, stopped by to do a little "MJ" for us.
7. TAMARA BROWN (podcast) - Dr. Tamara Brown of Genepartner.com called in to explain how this website matches you up with a potential "special someone" based on your - get this - DNA!

P.S. Go donate blood this weekend for WCSX's "Rock and Roll Up Your Sleeve" campaign and get a free t-shirt! Hear me? FREE T-SHIRT! Just like back in college, you can sell bodily fluids for t-shirts, but unlike college, it won't require a follow-up visit to get a penicillin prescription.
P.P.S. It's not just Canada Day today -- it's NHL Free Agent Signing Day. Nothing yet by the Red Wings.
