My rant from yesterday had an opposite effect it seems -- we had an extremely segmented, fractured show today full of mostly short little blurbs and headline-style, two-minute long segments. The only other interesting (and long enough) topic not listed below that should have had an official podcast was the discussion about finding dead bodies and human remains in Detroit, though it should have been longer and they certainly could have taken more calls. I understand the difference between a morning show and an afternoon drive show. In the afternoon, people not only put the show on during the drive home, but a 3pm-7pm show could also be on during and after dinner in your own home. In the morning, you're in your car for a half hour and then (for most people) the radio gets turned off. So I'd bet not as many people listen to the entire show. But management should really pattern the D&D Show after morning shows on TALK radio stations and not the typical morning drive program -- they had a formula that worked for years, why mess with it?
Anyway, back to today's show -- among the other topics mentioned were Doyle's new trifocals, a study on texting while trucking, the (newest) recent local car-crash-tragedy [side note - a bridge collapses and no one dies, yet three kids are dead from a single car accident?], a "Dear-Abby-my-sister-is-a-porn-star" letter, and a filmcritic.com list of the top 50 best movie quotes (I love #100). A couple clips were played yesterday's television offerings -- Larry Wilmore from the Daily Show spoke about "Henry Louis-Gate" and Hell's Kitchen attempted to claim a de facto trademark on the word "bitch" -- and Denise from Aesop's Catering and Cafe (newest Workforce Business of the Day) was brought on the air to plug her shop. Michael Phelps is in the news for losing a race; Deminski played an Afroman song for him, but I swapped that out for the parody of the same song D&D played back in Feburary. Also to note, Rudy is producing the show while Jim O.B. is away; this has FAILTRAIN written all over it. Podcasted segments were, thanks to WCSX.com:
1. DRIVE IN MOVIES ROCK! (podcast) - Deminski is still having a tough time convincing Doyle that drive in movies totally rock. So he had listeners call in and help him out.
2. THE TRANSVESTITE (podcast) - Ever learn a secret about your friend that perhaps you didn't really want to know? Like maybe how that friend likes to dress up like the opposite sex?
3. WHITE TRASH (podcast) - We all have that image that comes to mind when we hear "white trash." What do you think is white trash? Nascar? Putting a kiddie pool in your front yard? Letting your kids run around outside naked?
4. LOWER THE DRINKING AGE? (podcast) - Some people think that lowering the drinking age will prevent a lot of the problems we have with young people binge drinking, and drunk driving. What do you think?
