D&D - WKRK - July 27, 2005

Whoops, this was WKRK, not WXYZ. Missing the final hour of this show -- something about an upcoming doctor's appointment for Jeff and the introduction to the guy who brought his severed foot into the studio. Loved the Rachel Maddow-esque interview with the owner of the motorcycle company who fired an employee for buying a competitor's product. Glad they don't have that rule where I work -- I'd rather just use grocery bags. Other topics covered included a recap of the first episode of Dirty Jobs (and callers nominations for the show), a discussion about morning wood, a little critique of 89X by Jeff and a short little pre-2009 Tiger Woods joke during a Parker and the Man promo, as well as call-in segments about macabre media coverage fetishes, an AWESOME childhood urban legends website, a complaint from Deminski about catchy kids' songs, and a TV Father & Son contest for boxing tickets.

D&D - WXYT - July 26, 2005

We only have the first half of this show, but all the good parts are here. It's choppy like yesterday's, but listenable. A listener named Suresh came to the studio to cook some chicken curry for the guys and another (ironically white) listener offered up his bong hookah for everyone to test out. Maybe this was the inspiration for the "Beer in the AM" segment last year at WCSX? Other topics covered included a weird goof-up by Nicole (she forgot what station she was doing traffic for and said "AM 1270 the Sports Station" -- more weird foreshadowing), a debate about Rudy and his then-girlfriend's living arrangement, an Osama bin Laden cocaine story, and call-in segments ranging from reality shows to things every "real" Detroiter needs to do.

D&D - WXYT - July 25, 2005

This audio from this show starts out very, very choppy -- it almost sounds like a CD being fast-forwarded. It gets better towards the end, but it is a bit annoying. Some of the 2005-06 shows we have are going to be unrepairable for one reason or another, but we're still going to try to clean them up and put everything we have up here.

Nicole Salem made her first 2005 appearance during this show (at least, first appearance that we have audio from). Her traffic company must have either rotated traffic reporters or she was on vacation for the first few July '05 shows we put up. 2005-era topics covered during this show ranged from Darren McCarty's buyout (and Rudy's experience hanging out with Grinder and D-Mac), a possible self-imposed wrench in MindCandy's LA dream, some Jane Fonda controversy, a PR disaster by the Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor, and some spam news. Other topics included a test of the WKRK studio's stinky oven, a story about treating diabetes with maggots, and Doyle's dandruff problem, as well as call-in segments about Beaver's dog (and dogs vs. cats), staying in contact with ex's, and a possible New Jersey law banning smoking in cars.

D&D - WXYT - July 21, 2005

Pretty funny show, though the first few minutes were cut off (we patched the Theme Song onto the beginning). The guys tried to load the NSFW "Hot Coffee" mod on their PS2 version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas -- EPIC FAIL -- but were later saved by a listener who brought in his XBox. Other topics covered included crossing picket lines, the recent London terrorist attack, Doyle's attempted motorcycle sale, a choppy (audio, not content) interview with Steve the bouncer from The Jerry Springer Show, and an in-studio hearing test for D&D (courtesy of Hearing Consultants of Michigan). Call-in topics ranged from guys saying "I Love You" on the telephone, suggestions on who/what "needs a beating" (see thephatfree.com -- and listen for the ADHD from Jeff & Bill), and applications for a Brazilian Waxer for the loser of the upcoming D&D Trivia Contest.

D&D - WXYT - July 20, 2005

This show started out pretty slow, but it did mark an important moment in D&D history. Rudy mentioned his possible move to LA (Cutural Learnings of Mindcandy for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Italy) for the first time inspiring listeners to call in an offer words of wisdom (and resumes). Callers also introduced Jeff into the world of wine-tasting parties, provided their opinions on men's skin care products, and recalled their childbirth experiences after Deminski started the show on a down note by bringing up his friend's Down's Syndrome baby-to-be. Other topics covered included Doyle's addiction to weird gadgets, a check-in with the upcoming D&D in-studio Curry cook, a call to Jeff's horny Aunt Marty, and a partial interview with Rob Parker about the new Pistons' coach, Flip Saunders (the show got cut off during this interview). Y'know what's funny? Jeff's New Jersey accent seems almost as strong in 2005 as it did in 1999, much more so than last year.

P.S. Got an e-mail comment regarding the filehosting sites we use. Yes, Sharebee is a pain in the ass with all its ads (tip: hit Esc or Stop on your web browser as soon as the 4-5 links load) and the free one-click filehosters are annoying as they only allow one simultaneous download and have timers before the downloads start. But I've never put any money into this blog (save the initial investment in a good webstream recorder) nor have I received any from it. I'm even hesitant to put ads on here -- putting aside the fact that there's not enough traffic to raise any funds, the content on here isn't mine, it belongs to D&D, so I wouldn't feel right making anything off of it, even if the funds went to a better hosting site. That's also the reason behind leaving some commercials in the WCSX shows and building up that long list of advertisers you see to your left. Now if anyone has any server space they'd care to donate, that'd be a wholly different matter. :)

D&D - WXYT - July 15, 2005

The beginning of this show was cut off, and the audio isn't quite as good as the one posted yesterday, but it's still a classic one. Jeff's synesthesia was mentioned, as was his paranoia about eating, drinking, or watching movies alone. The guys checked in on Pat the Weirdo after he ended up in the hospital, Rudy discovered that a listener was probably a long-lost cousin, and Doyle dominated at Password. Other topics covered included online date deception, dumb criminals, a "D&D Dating Game" FAIL (that we unfortunately only caught the end of at the beginning of Hour 1), as well as an interview with comic Richard Jenny.

D&D - WXYT - July 14, 2005

It's finally here! We're going a little bit further back than we have before today -- we've got the first 75% of a show from the day after the NHL lockout ended. Topics included an introduction to the then-newly hired "dump guy" we would come to know and love, Mike Lurch, Beaver's new car shopping woes, a rundown of horrible ways to die, some random celebrity and video game news, as well as an interview with local boxing legend Tommy "Hitman" Hearns. There were also call-in segments regarding a new push by appliance makers towards male shoppers, dumb stuff we did with our cars as a kid ("shagging," anyone?), a debate on trailers vs. mobile vs. "manufactured" homes (and the WT-level of each), and an early debate about cell phone use while driving.

D&D 2005 / 2006 coming soon...promise!

I know this has been promised before...but for realz, y'all...we have audio for some various D&D shows (or parts of shows) from July 2005 - March 2006 coming up soon. The audio quality varies for shows, but the July 2005 ones aren't actually too bad. First one should be up tomorrow. In other D&D news...there is none. Nothing solid at least, no blog posts, though Jeff did confirm our earlier reports of a possible link to New York.

D&D heading to New York?

Let's get the rumor mill going -- Jeff and Bill may not be back on Philly's WPHT for a while due to the Phillies games being carried on that station, but we may have a clue to their next location. Derive your own conclusions from this Facebook comment left by Deminski:

"I have to be on a plane for New York very early [on Saturday, April 17]..."

Then again, maybe he's just visiting family. :)

PWND Radio - 2007 podcasts

Here are the remainder of "official" PWND Radio podcasts we have from 2007. There are more out there, but a lot are sans Doyle, as Shane Hamlin kept up with the show on 97.1 for a while after D&D left. The "PWND Posse" helped him out for a while, but according to his blog, it was mostly a one-man show.

Here are the clips (ZIP file):

PWND Radio - WXYT - Dec 1, 2007

Here's the only full PWND Radio show we have...full as in complete, but cut short due to a Red Wings games. Doing a bit of research, it looked like Shane Hamlin continued doing the show after D&D left 97.1 for about another year or so, but the PWND Radio MySpace says they're looking for a new radio home. This show featured an in-studio guest, a few sports game reviews, and an EPIC Madden ('08?) beatdown of the PWND staff by the professional guy.

D&D - WXYT - Dec 17, 2007 (Best Of)

Final WXYT "Best Of" 2007 show (that we have audio for) is below. Slight change of plans for next week; the audio quality of the 2005/2006 shows we received last year is really, really bad quality and will take a lot of cleaning up to become listenable (if possible). So we're going to throw up some PWN'D Radio clips that were included with the Oct-Dec 2007 shows. We've got one full show and a handful of interviews (website podcasts, most likely). Having never listened to PWN'D Radio myself, I'm looking forward to it. :)

D&D - WXYT - Dec 14, 2007 (Best Of)

Just one more (partial) Best Of 2007 show to post tomorrow, the one from 12/17/07. We thought there was one from 12/18 as well, but the audio was corrupted. Hopefully there's word soon of D&D's new gig -- we're running out of old shows to post! Also baseball season has started, so with the few extra hours of programming per day (WPHT carries Phillies games), we may not see D&D back in Philly anytime soon.

D&D - Mar 31, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

We're seeing more and more why the D&D Show on WCSX didn't work. The abbreviated topics geared towards the ADD crowd, the lack of call-in segments, the oversaturation of interviews, the too long and / or too frequent commercial breaks, and the "too many cooks in the kitchen" experience. The show last night would make a great resumé attachment for Jeff and Bill -- maybe tack on a segment about tranny sex or peeing in a Mt. Dew bottle to show off their comedic elements. We had a little less politics during the first hour than the last two times they were on WPHT (the Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell segment was the only truly political discussion), as well as a current topic that D&D had some history on (Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist "Church") and an associated interview, Sean Summers, the lawyer for the father of the soldier who was KIA and whose funeral was protested by the WBC assholes. After a short CBS News break at 11pm (a good way to go, as opposed to an in-show "sports update" or other distractions), D&D spent most of the second hour taking calls on rude toll collectors -- something their Detroit audience may not have related to, but it did spawn a great Jeff-vs-caller moment -- and a Pennsylvania hospital's decision to stop hiring tobacco addicts (by the way, as was pointed out to a caller, employer-based prohibitions on smoking and rising costs of health care were both around WAY before Obama was elected). Topics to end the show included sex addiction and dog fighting.
