D&D - Mar 30, 2010 - Philly's WPHT 1210am

Last night's show was an interesting one. As was the case last time, it was just Jeff and Bill in the studio with a ton of callers on a wide range of mostly-political topics (and a couple that were "ripped from the headlines"). The health care reform bill law was another point of contention for the guys and the (mostly) right-leaning callers. Other than the general (false) consensus that no one likes the bill, Jeff also dissed the new requirement that restaurants have to include nutritional information on their menus (though Doyle was in favor of it). Other political topics during the first hour included a quick history lesson on political insults and a "Deminski rant" against the two-party system -- hey Jeff, don't be too quick to shoot down that one caller's pro-parliamentary system if you want to increase the number of political parties!

The second hour was more focused on "current events" topics -- the guys revisited a topic from the show preceding theirs, the arrest of nine teenagers in an upper-class Massachusetts town after an Irish girl committed suicide due to bullying. Sue Finklestien (of the I'll-whore-myself-out-for-World-Series-tickets fame) was interviewed, and a weird-ass pro-rape Japanese video game was mentioned. If only Rudy was on their air during that segment...

Anyway...it was interesting to note how many callers said, "I like your show," or, "I enjoy listening when you guys are on" -- even though one Trenton caller was a fan from the NJ 101.5 days, they've only been on in Philly three times and they've already got regular listeners! I wonder how much promotion they've gotten on the station. Jeff set the tone at the very beginning of the show; yes, this is a station with three huge über-conservative syndicated hosts, but the D&D Show (as a political show) is hardly an ideological or strictly partisan one. Much like the two local Philadelphia hosts (a right-leaning former teacher and a former Republican who endorsed Obama in 2008), Jeff and Bill might provide some balance against the brainwashing of the syndicated hosts in the Philadelphia market. My favorite quote of the night? Doyle saying, "[It's] 10:53, Tuesday night in D...Philadelphia..." :)

P.S. Hey look, the guys have a picture...thought it looks an awful lot like this one...
