D&D - Nov 8, 2011

Wow. Three hours spent on one non-weather emergency related topic -- and it wasn't even a New Jersey story? Wasn't even a Philadelphia story...Penn State is in the "Alabama" section of Pennsylvania, dead center in the middle of the state. Such a sad story, but it does continue a two-day streak of "famous child molester" segments after the Michael Jackson / Conrad Murray topic yesterday. Maybe Gary Glitter is next up tomorrow? Other topics covered included an opening segment on Drowsy Driving Awareness Week and an hour of debate on the worthiness of graphic cigarette pack warning labels.

NOTE: There were some technical glitches between about 4:45pm and about 5:15pm. The final section of the 4:00 hour was patched in from the overnight reair, but the first few minutes of Hour 4 (after the news clip) were lost.

Michael Jackson was repeatedly found not guilty, but the "little fish in a big, dirty pond" is most likely going to jail. D&D only spent a half hour on this topic -- and that was just to gauge the level of interest. Other topics covered included callers' stories about finding deer in unexpected places after one was trapped in a local mall, another segment on the too-strict pedestrian rights laws in Jersey, a half hour on proposed fines for drivers stranded on flooded roads after moving or ignoring warning signs, a ton of (understandable) listener complaints about possible rate hikes from local utility companies who were hit hard by recent storms, and yet another story about a new proposed law, this one banning first responders from taking and sharing unauthorized crime scene photos.
