D&D - Nov 16, 2009

There wasn't much from today's show that didn't end up on the web. The biggest topic that got shut out of the podcast party was the call-in segment inspired by a Royal Oak dog shooting. In other news, Aretha Franklin, Tiger Woods, and Las Vegas weathermen are all whiny bitches. There was also another round of Play the Numbers. Web-worthy topics were, as picked by the feminine canines over at WCSX.com:

1. WCSX SALVATION ARMY CAMPAIGN--KETTLE ENVY (info) - Donate to your favorite WCSX personality's red kettle...Now through Christmas Eve, your favorite WCSX personalities will be donating their time and energy to help our community's most needy by ringing the red kettle bell at various metro Detroit locations and competing to see whose personal online red kettle can raise the most money to help The Salvation Army do the most good this holiday season. Give to D&D's team by clicking here!
2. SAMUELSEN ON SPORTS (blog) - Marriage proposal doesn't go well...I'm not a big fan of stadium marriage proposals - so I take a certain amount of glee at this horribly uncomfortable situation. Watch again to see the reaction of all of the people around the dude after his girlfriend runs off.
3. BRUCE FORGOT WHERE HE WAS: FAIL (podcast) - This past weekend, Bruce Springsteen played a rockin' show at the Palace. But several times he kinda...sorta...forgot where the hell he was. This ever happen to you?
4. ROBBIE KRIEGER (podcast) - D&D interviewed Robbie Krieger. Then - if you could bring back one dead rocker - only for one night- who would it be?
5. WHAT'S STILL GOOD IN MICHIGAN (podcast) - Yeah we know...the economy isn't doing well. Unemployment is high. But we're sick of hearing all the terrible news about Michigan. D&D ask: What's still good? What keeps YOU here?
6. STEPHEN LANG (podcast) - D&D talked to Steven Lang, from the new James Cameron flick "Avatar." This one promises to be an epic film!

Here's the show (you gotta deal with my fandom - left the live Bruce & Doors songs in):

D&D - Nov 11, 2009

Happy Veteran's Day to everyone, and "Thank You" to all veterans. Full roster for the show today, as Deminski came off the IR. Topics for today ranged from the absurd (man rips off a leopard's tongue, a drunk pilot gets pulled off a flight, and more Kwame / Mike Cox news) to the topical (the DC sniper was executed, online Moms were polled about H1N1, and vets get free food today). D&D also spoke with Tim Semaris from the Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers and played another round of Play the Numbers. Web-worthy topics were, as chosen by the day-late-dollar-short all-stars over at WCSX.com:

1. STEPHEN TYLER NOT LEAVING AEROSMITH? (video) - Steven Tyler joined The Joe Perry Project on stage in New York to announce he is not leaving Aerosmith!
2. HOT OR NOT? (video) - Jeff Deminski thinks Janis Joplin was the sexiest performer in rock history and the other guys have given him more than a little grief. See her here, and see what you think.
3. JOE CADA LIVE (podcast) - We got in touch with Joe Cada Wednesday morning...He told us all about being the World Series Of Poker Champion...Congrats Joe!
4. JOE CADA CLIPS (podcast) - Joe Cada from Shelby Twp at 21 years old became the youngest person to with The World Series Of Poker...Hear the clips from ESPN [with the crappy, over-the-top announcers], and his past appearances on D&D...
5. WOMEN AND GUNS (podcast) - Most of the men on the new city council are packing heat, but not the women...If your wife or girlfriend carried a gun and you didn't, would that hurt the relationship?
6. JANIS JOPLIN HOT? (podcast) - Who was/is the sexiest performer in rock history? Jeff thinks it very well could be Janis Joplin! Really? Really? REALLY?

D&D - Nov 10, 2009

Show topics from today in list form in chronological order (because I'm lazy):

Louis Black on H1N1 (which kept Deminski off the air again today)
Local poker star Joe Cada WINS the World Series of Poker!
Rudy's recap of his Call of Duty release party
ABCNews update on Ft. Hood shootings
J. Lo & Carrie Prejean's sex tape adventures
Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremonies
Newsweek FAIL article from 1995 about the future of the Internet

There were also call-in segments on best rewatchable movies, experiences with identity theft, and best opening lyrics.

Featured topics were, from the also-feeling-lazy-today folks over at WCSX.com:

1. ELIZABETH MITCHELL (podcast) - The guys chatted with the beautiful Elizabeth Mitchell, you know her from LOST and the new series V.
2. SAMUELSEN ON SPORTS (blog / videos) - What's with the Girls Soccer Violence? Last week, most people saw this epic clip from a BYU-New Mexico womens soccer match. Now we have THIS from Rhode Island High School Girls Soccer!!!!
3. DEMINSKI & DOYLE CLASS PROJECT (video) - Stumbled upon this while perusing YouTube...Danzel Partlow is a Specs Howard student who did a class project on the D&D morning show. Watch interviews with Bill Doyle (LOVE the FCC comments and the extended "more info" video description!) and Nicole Salem (Jesus, girl, are you always doing Vitamin Water commercials?) as well as the final project. And also check out the newest misspelling..."Daminski"...bonus interview, Doug Podell...
4. GREATER MEDIA YOUTUBE RUMORS (video) - With the end of the year coming (and the LACK OF PODCASTS TODAY necessitating some filler), I've been wondering what 2010 has in store for our friends Jeff & Bill. Granted, this video is a few months old, but it's another one I found on YouTube and made me think again about that week back in August...

D&D - Nov 9, 2009

We had a very sports-centric opening hour of the show (perhaps due to Deminski's continued absence); the Lions' false hopes and broken promises were highlighted, Andre Agassi's confessions were made public, and last Friday's interview of Steve Yzerman was replayed. Other topics from today included a few updates -- the newest on the Ft. Hood shooting, a possible Aerosmith breakup, and local poker hero Joe Cada's amazing comeback at the World Series of Poker (which spurred a debate over the "sportiness" of Texas Hold-Em). There were also a couple music-related stories; Britney Spears lip-synchs (REALLY?) and Jim reviewed a John Fogerty concert. In other (most likely unrelated) news, Rudy will be at the Blockbuster in Orion Township tonight for the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Miss England got in a bar brawl. Web-worthy topics were, as chosen by the monster mashers over at WCSX.com:

1. KIDS AND TEXTING (podcast) - Parents need to know that their kids are not just texting "omg" & "rofl." Listen to what they are texting now!
2. BEN SCHMITT (podcast) - Free Press reporter Ben Schmitt was on the show Monday morning with new revelations in the case of the "Manoogian Stripper Party"...
3. MIKE "DOC" EMRICK (podcast) - "Doc" Emrick is the play-by-play announcer for the NHL on NBC and VS. "Doc" was cool enough to call in Monday morning from a train on his way to The NHL Hall Of Fame in Toronto...We talked all things Steve Yzerman as "The Captain" will be inducted tonight! [Note: Doc's phone seems to have a hiccup at around the 9m30s mark during what is, I assume, a story about the New Jersey Devils -- this glitch is in our show audio as well]
4. WCSX HOLIDAY CASH (contest) - Come celebrate the holidays with WCSX & Nicole Salem...join Nicole at various Hamlin Pub locations in November and December for a chance to win cash and prizes!
5. WIN A MOVIE AND PIZZA (contest) - Win The Orphan Movie iTunes Download and A Large Pizza Gift Certificate From Papa Johns! Sign up today for your chance to win a digital copy of the movie, Orphan, from the iTunes store and a Papa John's Pizza, Orphan branded gift card. Each gift card can be redeemed for a large, one topping pizza. There's something wrong with Esther...and you'll never guess her secret in the frightening, thriller - ORPHAN...Order it tonight On Demand in HD from Comcast Channel 1 or buy it on iTunes or wbshop.com.

D&D - Nov 6, 2009

First-ever "...and Doyle" show on WCSX. I remember several of the "Deminski & Rudy" or "Beaver & Doyle" shows on 97.1, but I'm 99.9% sure this is the first time it's happened on 94.7. As foreshadowed a couple days ago, Jeff was off today after his son was confirmed with H1N1 -- even though he doesn't have it, Greater Media policy said he had to stay home. Nice way to get a three-day weekend, Jeff! Kidding aside, I hope his son gets better soon. The guys aired a few audio clips recorded by Jim O'Brien at yesterday's Swine Flu Vaccination Party at the Palace and took some calls from listeners in regards to their companies' H1N1 policies. Deminski also called in with a report from "Ground Zero."

Slim pickings on the official podcast page today; other topics from today's show included an opening segment about yesterday's tragedy in Texas, a call-in segment about bands replacing their lead singers and an upcoming Bruce Springsteen autobiography, an intra-office discussion about this season's TV shows, and a long debate about old toys and contenders for the Toy Hall of Fame. There were also a few short filler bits about a Florida flasher's creative excuse, the worst Korean driver in the world, and a replay of part of an old Don Henley interview. Web-worthy topics were, as chosen by the sick puppies over at WCSX.com:

1. STEVE YZERMAN (podcast) - The Captain, Steve Yzerman checked in with D&D Friday morning! Hall Of Famer, Gold Medalist, Stanley Cup Champion..and the list goes on!
2. JAMIE AND BRADY (podcast) - Jamie talked to his old radio partner Greg Brady...
3. SAMUELSEN ON SPORTS (blog) - Jamie's sports blog -- two entries today including the morning crew's Friday Football picks and tips on where to watch this weekend's local college football games.

P.S. I happened to be listening to a show from earlier this year back from when D&D had a four-hour (or four-hour-plus) show. They used to chat with Karen Savelly from time to time during the "segue" between shows, รก la Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert or Keith Olbermann & Rachel Maddow. I wonder what happened to that? Did the guys piss off Karen by leaving broken eggs and glass and balut smell in the studio? ;)
