D&D - Aug 31, 2011

Longtime (Detroit-based) fans of the D&D Show should all remember Rudy DeSantis, the longtime caller screener / assistant producer / show bitch from their WKRK/WXYT and WCSX years. It's his birthday today, something he shares with former D&D Show member and still-current WCSX "Sports Guy" Jamie Samuelsen. It's also the 14th anniversary of the death of Princess Di, a fact that anyone other than Rudy would lose their man card by mentioning. Speaking of Rudy, he made a comment on FB a while back that would seem to preclude any rumors that he might ever move to Jersey to rejoin the show:

"Radio is about advertising and money...You can have Drew & Mike like ratings, but if people are broke (which they are in MI) it really becomes difficult to pay contracts. I made the decision a long time ago that I would do radio as long as possible, but I would never move for it...As bad as things are here, my friends and family live in MI."

Today's topics included a couple more hours on Hurricane Irene (gauging the attitude of New Jersey residents after the storm and a general aftermath discussion) as well as a segment on haggling (inspired by Doyle), a debate about rowdy sports fans, and a list of the best Laugh Out Loud movies.

Here's the show:

The fact that Rudy didn't move on with the show shouldn't come as any huge shock to the Detroit listeners.
If he wasn't prepared to sacrifice relationships for his band, then there was no way he was going to do that for a job.
