D&D - June 17, 2009

Today's show definitely had a (management-influenced?) classic-rock flavor to it, from the San Fran Gate "zombie rock" article and follow-up calls, to the three songs played during the show (granted, one was by Weird Al), to the C.S.N. interview about their new record. Nearly six months later, it seems to be that the D&D Show is mostly fitting in well with the new station, but there do appear to be a few internal conflicts. Matt Drudge-wanna be Gregg Henson put forward his two cents last month, but some of his points do have credit. Jeff's personal blog was scrubbed of the anti-management posts, for one, and there do seem to be more local topics. For me, a lot of the good D&D shows in the past have been like audible, interactive funny FARK articles.

Non-music topics today ranged from stories about local schizo killers (including Jeff's ex-mother-in-law -- okay, she wasn't a killer, just a schizo), texting while driving and road rage, zombie rock, the resurgence in vasectomy popularity, and stupid infomercials. The guys also interviewed Justin Denney and his dad; he was the Maine student who was denied a diploma for blowing a kiss to his mom. Other segments were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. MEGAN FOX - LONELY BOY (pic) - Give this kid credit, he's trying to show his love to Megan Fox...
2. WEIRD AL'S NEW SONG - CRAIGSLIST (video) - Check out the new Weird Al song...a tribute to The Doors (including Ray Manzarek on keyboards) - check it out!
3. CROSBY, STILLS & NASH (podcast) - Crosby, Stills & Nash joined D&D to talk about their new "Demos" CD being released. Then D&D played some previously unreleased CSN - and we think you'll like it!
4. WIERD (sic) AL (podcast) - You have to listen to this HILARIOUS new Weird Al parody of "When the Music's Over" that Ray Manzarek actually plays keyboards on. It’s called "Craigslist."
5. OH MONICA (podcast) - Channel 4's Kevin Dietz called in to talk to D&D about - yes - Monica Conyers. Monica is alleged to have taken bribes to approve a $47 million sludge handling contract for the city. [Bonus: did you catch the caller cussing Monica out on the air?]
6. ANDREW FEUSTEL (podcast) - D&D talked to astronaut Andrew Feustel - who completed a dangerous space walk and repaired the Hubble telescope. Oh yeah- he's a local guy!

I'm just being honest. I can't adjust to the new show style, and I haven't listened in about 6 weeks. I am not a classic rock fan, and couldn't care less about what Crosby,Stills, and Nash have to say. Management has influenced the show way too much. If this changes anytime soon let me know, and I will tune back in.

Hey SuperSize...listened at all recently? I think the tone of the show has gone back towards the old days, with the possible exception of the annoying sports reports. The segments are longer and the classic rock interview / segments seem fewer and the music is almost nonexistent.
