D&D - Aug 3, 2009

Very good show today, whole lot of funny segments. People have ripped on Nicole Salem for what they view as her lack of contribution to the show (forgetting that her actual job is to do traffic and weather reports), but she is an excellent, mostly good-natured target for jokes (e.g. the follow-up to the "choking chihuahua CPR" story today). I once described Rudy as the "bitch" of the show, but he's playing this role less and less -- I don't know about what went on behind the scenes last week, but he seemed to do a pretty good job filling in as producer. Topics today ranged from brief headline mentions (the head-shaped urns and Tiger Woods' flatulence) to many call-in segments, including the aforementioned pet CPR story, a tally of annoying celebrities, an on-air clunker car qualification test, and another Super Bonus Point Drive-In Spectacular ticket giveaway. Ton of (interesting) interviews in the 8 o'clock hour -- Ken from VanEx Fire Systems, today's Workforce Business of the Day winner, SuperSize Scott plugging a suicide prevention charity walk, and the returning champion, stand-up comedian Mike Stanley. Here is a link to the Mike Stanley podcast from 2007 mentioned during today's show (actually, I almost forgot that I was about to upload the entire 10/4/07 D&D show from WXYT thanks to another fellow D&D fan). Podcast-worthy segments from today were, courtesy of WCSX.com:

1. D&D "SUPER BONUS POINT" MOVIE THEATRE NIGHT THURSDAY (link) - How would you like to join us for another D&D "Super Bonus Point" night? this time it's a free drive-in movie at the VERY COOL Compuware Arena Drive-In in Plymouth — click here for more info on the drive in — and LISTEN TOMORROW MORNING FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN!!
2. SUPERSIZE SCOTT'S CHARITY WALK (link) - Our buddy Supersize Scott is doing a charity walk for the "Out of The Darkness" charity walk [for suicide prevention] on September 13th - click here to sponsor Scott.
3. NICOLE IN THE FREE PRESS (article) - Thanks to BJ Hammerstein of the Detroit Free Press for mentioning Nicole’s "Chihuahua Challenge!" [Full text of the article can be read at the link above or read the original article here.]
4. JEFF & THE RACCOON (podcast) - On his way to work this morning, Jeff Deminski accidently hit and (he's pretty sure) killed a raccoon. This brings up the topic of doing a "mercy kill." Things get wonderfully disturbing from there!
5. NAME THAT MOVIE FOR DRIVE IN TICKETS (podcast) - D&D are hosting a drive-in movie night at Compuware in Plymouth this Thursday. Listeners called in to play a fun game to win tickets.
6. MIKE STANLEY (podcast) - D&D had comedian Mike Stanley in studio this morning. He's a local guy, and if you haven't heard him - He's HILARIOUS.
